The reasons for arresting those who produce and sell marijuana are still valid. Countries and States that have dropped their laws against the weed have not become better places to live.

Those who deal in marijuana frequently deal in cocaine, heroine, and the new (and more dangerous) pills.

These people often sell guns. People who want to purchase an illegal gun will check with a known drug dealer first to see if he has one for sale.

Marijuana is associated with crime. People who go on a binge of serial crime and violence are often found to be high on marijuana.

Marijuana smoking sometimes causes physical illnesses including lung and breathing problems
and contributes to certain cancers. One of the worst for young people is that it damages a part of the brain responsible for memory and learning. Among youthful smokers there is often found to be a drop in school grades, and more school dropouts.

You have your head buried in the sand too, no matter what stats are out there to educate you. Colorado, Washington state, Oregon have all benefited greatly from massive job creation, families have moved to those states for medical reasons for their children and adults who otherwise could not find relief for their pain and suffering for a number of illnesses. Savings to the states for not incaserating their people rampantly. They have reported no increase in the number of youth who now smoke marijuana due to legalization. I will stop here, you need to research and get away from pushing the US fed gov’t position blindly, their own states defer.

    Government find markets! lol:

Products waste all over the land…farmers plant but are too starved of income and wealth to find their own markets…Why can’t we find market for our Cannabis? Look at who goes to jail for it…the people who smoke it-small men. Look at the symposiums taking place over the USA…ALL bigger men (status). Coconut oil was killed for the small man (DCP), now we cannot buy a bottle while the world is selling everything from hair products to internal products at exorbitant prices.

NOW, I would like to purchase some (of that) 4 tea… it is treated with such disdain I can’t even find it. Why aren’t we able to sell Marijuana tea bags? And speaking of teas…why did we allow Blow’s Teas to die? Mr. Blows worked so hard at trying to make tea for Dominicans…if we support and encourag local markets his name would be on shelves everywhere…Find Markets for people to grow food…the world needs food. What’s the plan on competent Ministers who…

:?: After all these illegal activities and ill the illegal rogues posing as government with a prime mistake are involved in,the police are really evil and wicked,by arresting the man! You all have reaped up the marijuana, which means that man has lost any money he might have earned from the sale of the marijuana, therefore you all should have allowed him to go free! How much more evil can you all be ? I’ve got a nephew in the police force,I can’t await the time when he will leave this evil organization! While you all allow evil and wicked men in high office to go free, the barefoot man is penalized for petty stuff! It’s time that these young men arm themselves and take a stance on this evil regime posing as government! Then again, these young men should take what they get, they are the ones responsible for this illegal rogues posing as government with a prime mistake being in power!

They continue to take chances growing them. They should know they stand a chance of getting caught.
I have previously stated this, grow fruits and vegetables. These are healthy and contribute to longevity. If you grow them and sell them at a reasonable cost, in time you could make a mint. You will not have to worry about getting caught.

      Tell the Facts:

Thank you for sharing common sense.

Fruit and veggies vs. marijuana. Exact opposite effects.

It is a shame to see the rich productive soil of the beautiful nature island used for a harmful purpose when it can be put to a good use by honorable people.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

It is a shame indeed. They are spoiling the land. God will hold them accountable.
I love fruits and veggies. I love to drink a fruit smoothie, It gives much energy. I also try to drink ample water. I get compliments for the smoothness of the skin on my face. I am told, your face looks so young! As a baby I suppose. These compliments are also encouraging.
I am drinking a fruit smoothie right now. I have many fruit smoothie recipes. The one which I make frequently (my own creation), is with a few small pieces of cantaloupe, melon (green), pineapple, strawberry, raspberry, grapes, apple with coconut water. Of course, I eat watermelon. The coconut water is the canned one – Grace Product. I blend them together; sometimes put in a little honey and nutmeg just for further taste. It is so delicious.
God gave us fruits and vegetables. We should eat them since they are healthy for us. As a health product, marijuana is out.

Give others a chance to comment.

I forgot to mention. For the smoothies, I also put a small piece of mango, some blackberries, ripe banana and even a piece of sweet papaya including pear (the fruit). Dominicans call avocado pears; not this one. I like eating this one.
As they say, a little of this and that. It makes for a delicious smoothie and is strengthening. It makes a few cups to give the family one cup each. If it is thick, it could be thinned with a little water. Some people use milk. I prefer not. I save milk for cereal, hot and cold or for drinking a glass occasionally.

Let us look at logically at what is happening to our country, no agriculture, no manufacturing, tourism on steady decline while hotels are being built, more rooms less tourist occupant , budget run on passport sales; the question that now faces with high unemployment, high import bill, steady homely commitments, and i do not know where the next dollar is coming from; the late Eugenia Charles told the Americans if you kill our banana industry we will resort to growing drugs, St Vincent and the Grenadines is now the main supplier of cannabis, and Ralph Gonsalves made no bones about it, what else is there to bring the much needed foreign exchange to the country but marijuana. Let us look at the wide spread legalization of the same drug in the U S that first criminalize the plant, let us look at the medicinal value of the plant, let us look at legality & law who makes the law, and what purpose these law serves on the nation, and let us look at who is smart and who are the fools.

    • August 24, 2016

The US has (by their own admission) a drug problem that is out of control. Marijuana was the beginning of this and now idiot politicians (under political pressure) have legalized it in some States. The weed remains very much part of the drug problem.

The same legalization is happening in Canada.

Years ago our politicians gave license to the production and sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products. Now thousands of people die every year from tobacco smoke. We know 50% of all regular tobacco smokers will die from a disease caused by smoking tobacco. This is an undisputed scientific fact.
Marijuana has not yet been legalized long enough anywhere to know what the long term results will be but we do know it does cause some health problems.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist. (Diploma in Drug Studies)

You give me Thumbs Down and yet as always you cannot highlight a single statement I made that is incorrect and provide evidence proving I am wrong.

This is the way it is with the legalization movement. They are trying to find politicians they can bribe or blackmail into signing onto their cause and push it through. Meanwhile they either ignore their opponents or reply with sarcasm. They know they don’t have the facts on their side so debate is out of the question.

Those who don’t like this comment will reply again with more of the same. Don’t bother because I don’t have time for you.

      Are you a Dominican :?:

Are you saying Dominica is so resource strapped growing marijuana is its last resort :?:

The same rich sun drenched soil that would grow marijuana will also produce fruit and veggies. Live stock is also an option. There is still land to build factories and shops for those with ambition and a vision.

Dominican young people are an intelligent lot. I see many of them moving head. A significant number are getting a higher education and preparing – degree in hand – to launch into a career.

I refuse to believe Dominica has sunk so low it must resort to growing and selling marijuana to survive :!:
There are too many good people on the island to let this happen. Your grandparents did not have as much as you have to work with. But they were good people and it did not happen in their day.

I will say this. I dont do drugs and never smoked a spliff in my life. That will change when i am old and retired and have nothing else to try accomplish. Since before i was born police have been trying to stop marijuana growing by now you guys shoyld realize its a loosing battle. The fact that this international plant has withstand the test of time and i believe will out live man i think its time we focus on harnessing the immense benifit that the herbs has proven to provide. Israeli scientists have studied for years, the US government grows for research yet the original war on the plant was a racial ploy against mexicans. Colorado, California and several other states fully legalize for recreational use or medicine. THC has proven to retard cancer and help epilepsy patients. Why is the Caribbean not leading these research through UWI is besides me. Their are bigger culprits to our society problems. Ganga is not one of them. It is God creation so its good. Free the herb.

Many who used the plant have since long died. It did not keep them alive; it has no value for keeping them or anyone alive, just as medication. It will be the same for those who presently take it and in the future.
Smoking marijuana or other illegal drug will not help. As for when you are old and retired, if you live that long (only God knows), you may try doing some community work as also volunteering and for your church which will keep you busy. These are godly works. Also praying and more for your country and the rest of the world, spending your time in godliness as you get closer to that inevitable day. This will also be for your eternal salvation. :)

Jake, you mean devil money? Ask yourself. Is God pleased with marijuana and what it does to people, especially the youths?
There are Dominicans who have taken this illegal drug and at a very young age. Some are school dropouts.
Do you not see what they look like? Some are always intoxicated. They are unemployed and poor, walking the streets of Roseau of all; sitting on the sidewalks. I have observed this. They are not helpful to themselves nor society.
Some visitors to Dominica have passed/driven and walked in New Town. They spoke of the many men of all who line the sidewalks of New Town with their natty dread hair and are smoking marijuana.
Is this what you want for Dominica? For the youths of all and the type of money which legalizing it will produce? You can endorse it but not me.

      ”… … it is a losing battle.”

It would be fair to say the battle has not yet been won. The problem is being contained. Without the legal restraints and intervention it would be much worse. Until law enforcement advances to the place where the marijuana trade is eliminated it is beneficial to continue the present effort.

Congratulation to your island drug police and all others who contribute to stopping this evil business.

More needs to b known about the ”medical” uses of marijuana before any government gives it a blanket approval. Any person using it for medicinal purposes should do so only under the instructions and supervision of a licensed medical doctor. What we have found is that some who claim they use it for
medicinal reasons actually used it to get high long before they knew it might have any medicinal value. Added to this is the fact that there are regular conventional drugs that would do the job just as well.

The gov’t in Dominica is a big joke, wasting task payers money ,allowing lawyers to eat the poor people’s money ,78 grams of marijuana ,do you think that is a crime for such an amount to arrest a man and send him to prison? That man should not pay any lawyer at all nor any fines ;go to prison ;eat free meals again on the tax payers money..there is high level of crime in Dominica ,murders ,rapes and child molestation are still not solved ;while the criminals are still free to walk the public streets ;marijuana should be legalized as soon as possible because it will surely generate more income for the country ;poverty level is higher than ever, corruption is on the increase ,people who makes a fortune save their money in panama instead of leaving it in the banks in Dominica, who feels it knows it ;one day the police and those that are responsible for imprisoning people’s children for a plant which was created by God will get the return bounce one way or the other..legalize marijuana!

    • August 24, 2016

Three points should be made here.

      (1) The fact that there are greater (worse) crimes in Dominica does not mean the authorities should not go after those who commit lesser offences. There will always be more serious crimes. Unfortunately, there will be periods of time when there is a backlog of ”cold cases”. That is the way it is in policing. But this does not mean the police should let people away with minor offences and drugs are not necessarily a minor offence.

      (2) You may not realize this but the more serious crimes you have mentioned such as murders, rape, and child molestation – are frequently (not always) fuelled and driven by drugs. The people who commit these crimes often do so while they are high on marijuana.

      (3) Many – maybe most – tax payers want drug pushers taken out of circulation even when it means paying for their court costs and stay in prison.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

    • Tell the Facts
      August 24, 2016

      “task payers” money indeed.
The day that marijuana is legalized in Dominica, keep your eyes on especially the youths. Education will go down the drain.
Let us do and say what is good for Dominica and especially the youths. Do not legalize what may be harmful to them, their brains, intelligence and their future.
Whoever wants to smoke it, it is their prerogative and their future. However, expect there will be those who object to it just as in everything else, as politics. All of us have a free mind to agree or disagree, based on our mentality, personal lifestyle and also status.

      • September 2, 2016

        True :!:

If marijuana is decriminalized in Dominica it will have a noticeable and obvious effect on the youth. Eventually, school grades will drop, more students will drop out of school, and much further on health problems will become noticeable.

More kids will be loitering in the streets late at night, and there will be more minor criminal offences. In time there will be an increase in the sale and use of the “hard” drugs.

The democratic system makes it possible for your politicians to legalize marijuana and one day the God fearing people in Dominica may find the weed thrust upon them. But remember the same democracy makes it possible for you to vote these rogues out of office at the next election.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
