Blackmoore condemns recent shooting at Bath Estate

National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore

National Security Minister Rayburn Balckmoore has condemned this week’s shooting incident in Bath Estate which claimed the life of Silver Lake resident Marcus Fagan.

According to the police, Fagan was attacked in the vicinity of a grocery shop at Bath Estate on July 21st. Security footage of the shooting which has been released shows that the victim was shot by a masked individual.

“One death is one too many,” Blackmoore said. “At this time it is imperative that the police have an airtight flexible innovative and multi-faceted approach to combating this threat.”

He said it must be emphasized that the effort to curb violence involving firearms cannot rest on the police alone.

“In this regard a multi-sectorial approach must be taken to combat the situation,” the minister stated.

Blackmoore is of the view that crime is a societal challenge and therefore needs a societal response.

“In the coming months the public should expect to see a real institution of the community policing programme,” he noted. “The importance of having a community involved in combating crime cannot be underestimated.”

He said it was important to recognize that crime prevention is the business of every Dominican.

“There is a need for a problem solving approach involving community leaders, persons …..in the communities, parents, teachers, spiritual leaders…,” Blackmoore noted.

This is what happens when people have no job. Back in the old days when the Dominica economy and banana and lime industry was doing great people had jobs and felt good about themselves and did not go around shooting people. This current crew and their illustrious millionaire leader, the passport and citizenship seller for self profit have destroyed Dominica agriculture and jobs during the past 20 years.

Mr. Blackmore, while I commend you for growing something needed to address the situation, I have not heard anything different from the failed policies that got us where we are today. While I agree that crime is a societal issue that must be addressed by all, I have to remind you that those charged with leading the effort (Police hierarchy) are incompetent and lost. A good example is the so called “BABY SARAH CASE”. Have the police concluded the investigations? What really happened?

I think Dr. Peter St.Jean put it mildly when he said we need a new minister of national security. Do you agree? While you are at it please tell the SLP/ DLP STOP financing criminals with cool-out money. That Blue Blue Gang must be dealt with mercilessly with immediate effect.Where is the no nonsense SSU of the 80’s who we all could count on for state security? They did not see party but country first! Let the police loose on their behind. We are fed-up sir.

My brother and friend let me give you two of the most important “faceted” approaches you forgot (1) The immediate revision of a proper firearms act, not the commess we presently have is a joke and; (2) It’s time for the erection of the Hangman’s Gallows at the Stockfarm States Prison compound as a reminder to those reckless killers the Murder is still punishable be DEATH!!!

For years this has been minister blackmoores approach, whenever an incident occurs he comes out with tough talk, but over the years has there been any real results from those speeches? Nope, crime seems to be getting worst, more and more it’s becoming more bold.

It is the real intellectuals in Dominica to blame. Our whole Cabinot are of substandard brains.
I heard Blackmore struggle to pronounce some of the words in his speech. It was bland and very elementry, bodering on incoherrent.
An embarrassment that the rest of the world can hear our Security Minister sound so unprepared even unfit!!.

    Dominica we can do better.

Blackmoore should be summarily dismissed as Minister of National Security. Firstly, his reputation has been so badly disfigured that the vast majority of Dominicans have lost complete respect for him. There are no new concrete initiatives to reduce gun violence and crimes. All the citizens get is lip service and lies. Blackmoore operates at the behest of Skerrit not for the beleaguered citizens. He sets the armed forces of the State on innocent civilians. They teargased children and women at a peaceful protest. They gathered in large, threatening numbers with their big, sophisticated weapons, at the discussion for electoral reforms. They rushed to the port, armed to the teeth, because port workers dared to ask for an increase in salary and better working conditions. Scandals follow this man as flies follow human waste. Yet, this man is rewarded for his gross incompetence. After twenty years in government he now talking about new initiatives to fight crimes. This is ridiculous.
