Charles Gilbert, of the Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS), has topped the Caribbean Secondary Examination (CSEC) exams with 10 ones and 2 twos.
The other performers in the top three are Grace Ettienne of the Convent High School, with 10 ones and 1 two and Britana George, also of the PSS, with 10 ones.
Chief Education Officer, Melena Fontaine, made the announcement at a news conference, this morning.
At that conference, Ministry of Education officials expressed delight with the results of the Dominican students who sat the CSEC exams, and reported that Dominica’s overall performance is some 12 points above the regional average.
The students performed above the regional average in all except three subject areas (French, Industrial Tech Building and Visual Arts)
Fontaine, in her opening remarks at the press conference, said the results showed an upward trend in almost all areas. She mentioned increases in language and mathematics with the Convent High School (97%) and St. John’s Academy (95%), continuing to excell.
Eleven out of 16 schools achieved increases in percentage pass rates and 38 students from 11 schools received 6 ones and above in the exams.
More on the CSEC results coming up on DNO. The full list of the results, based on performance, can be seen below.
It is strange that the top students pictures have not been highlighted ( Subsequent to this news). The other islands show the top performers. Congrats nonetheless to all those who succeeded. Hard work pays off.
Congrates to all the student who sat the exams. I think after what went we through last year, the students stayed focus and did so excellent. I believe where there is a will there is a way and we should take a page from those students book because they to were affected and still managed to excel.
Congratulations to all the students:
The pursuit of intellectual maturity comes with a lot of humility and integrity. Please remain humble as you pursue your dreams. To those students whose name did not appear on this list, just remember, there was not enough space on the paper to enter the names of everyone; and no one will be taking their current grades to the next level. Everyone starts afresh, and form the same level, the previous one was just a springboard. So do your thing as those whose name appeared on the list, and you will see fruitful results. And if you do not know how to do it, do not be proud, ask those who did it how they did it.
Again congratulations to all the students. But let us not forget the administration, staff, and parents. Clearly it took an entire village to raise these scholars.
Congratulations to all our students, teachers, parents and the Ministry of Education. Job well done!
Who should I blame for such success? Honourable Roosevelt Skeriitt of course. Kudos to you Sir!
Wonder what would have been the verdict had our students performed poorly…hmmm
Skerro fault maybe…
Let me first congratulate the students, teachers, parents and the Principal of the Portsmouth Secondary School on an astounding result of this years’ CSEC Exams!! Special mention of Selena Victor of course!!
Let me add that after listening to the thorough results of the Exams not once was PSS highlighted seeing that the school secured 5 out of the top 10 positions to include the Island Scholar, or that there were 9 students from the top 38!! Come on give credit where credit is deserved!! I know that if it was one of those Urban schools, the Media would have been flunked with that News!!!
Anyways, Hats off to you PSS as we sing Forward on PSS!!
Give credit where credit is deserved!!
I don’t like the presentation of this news at all!.
Congrats to all!! Lets do everything in our power to use these great minds to build Dominica
i only saw Goodwill Secondary once smh very sad!!!!!!!!!
And so is Dominica Grammar School.
But that’s just the top performers; so it don’t mean others didn’t do good
Wow times really changing in DA Good job too all the students who studied hard
Forward on PSS. Congratulations to all students. To the top performers we salute you and are super proud to support you on your journey. To the staff and Principal Mr. Austrie I am thankful for your vision and willingness to partner with our team in being part of overall efforts to educate our students. God bless you all. God bless PSS and God Bless Dominica. #ForwardOnPSS
This is great and I congratulate these students, the sad part is that Dominica does not have the environment where they can get a very good job after they graduate from college. Most of these students flees to overseas where their destination country rips the benefits of their potential. We have to create a work environment where they will want to stay and in the end both the country and the individual will benefit.
Excellent comment Pharoah. You are right on point. While the Caribbean continues to produce young people with exceptional academic and vocational skills, the ability to integrate them into the workforce is almost non-existence. So what we are seeing is a migration of intellectual capital. One of the largest exports from the Caribbean is intelligence. When a person is faced with a mountain of student loans after college and the very low probability of finding a job back home to live on and service the loan, they most often opt to stay abroad where the possibilities are greater; so their home country ends up with brain drain.
This is great, keep up the good works.
Congrats to all but to me girls are the majority . what happen to the boys. 9 boys out of 40 names .
Congratulations to all. It would be nice to get a statement from the opposition leader.
Stupes. Nonsense!!! Why???
Congratulation to all, may God continues to bless all of you in future study.
Congrats to Mr. Gilbert and the Gilbert Family in Penville…you have made yourself, your family and your school so very proud!
continue to work hard and do not be distracted or derailed…now calls for even greater focus!
best of luck to all the other students continue to strive high and keep focused!
