UPDATE: Ross University to shut down operation in Dominica

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has told the nation that Ross University has taken a decision to leave Dominica.

Skerrit said in an address to the nation on Friday morning, that very soon the university will announce its departure from the country.

This disclosure from the prime minister comes against the background of mounting speculation over the past several months as to whether Ross would return to Dominica after the university, following the devastating passage of Hurricane Maria, relocated its operations to St. Kitts and the state of Tennessee in the US.

Government received formal notification of Ross’s decision a few days ago.

“Since Hurricane Maria, the officials of Dominica have been in constant contact with officials from Ross to see how we could cushion the impact of Maria. Over the last ten months, we explored all options that one could think of in our discussions with Ross, At the end of the day, the officials of Ross, like any other business person, reserve and exercise the right of the shareholders and many interests to include but not limited to parents, students, faculty and sponsors,” Skerrit remarked.

The prime minister directly attributed Ross’s departure from storm-battered Dominica, to the passage of Tropical Storm Erika and Hurricane Maria and insists that had it not been for these two weather systems, “there would never have been any consideration of Ross’s departure from Dominica.”

“Let us make it very clear that Ross loves Dominica and Dominica loves Ross,” Skerrit said pointing out that just a few years ago, the partnership agreement between Ross and the Dominica government was renewed for twenty-five more years.

He said he is satisfied that Ross “tried everything” to remain in Dominica and because of their continued “love and connection with Dominica,” they had agreed to keep open the door for the return of several aspects of their US five billion dollar operation. He said government is now positioning itself to take advantage of such opportunities in the future.

“However, notwithstanding our understanding of the decision, we made the point to them that the forty years of our association is not forty days and it’s only fair that in any marriage of forty years, that if there is to be a parting of ways, there should be at least a sharing of the fruit of those forty years. Ross has agreed to this in principle and we are now at an advanced stage of negotiations as to how best Ross can thank Dominica for those forty years,” the prime minister revealed.

While admitting that it would be presumptuous of him to anticipate what the final decision will be as the specifics were still being discussed, Skerrit said he and his team had made some very strong and reasonable suggestions that he hopes will be accepted by Ross University.

“Suffice to say that the first and foremost in my consideration was for Ross to leave a lasting tangible monument to the warmth of the friendship that existed between Dominica and Ross University…….secondly, Ross is into education. Ross has benefited hundreds of Dominicans over the years. So, henceforth ordinary Dominicans desirous of pursuing studies in medicine or related studies will continue to access the relevant scholarships at Ross University,”

The Prime Minister and his team are also seeking some “tangible assistance” from Ross for many businesses that will be negatively impacted by the University’s departure from Dominica, to help those businesses re-position themselves in the economy.

Government plans to meet with the individuals affected and to discuss the future, and to share with them the plans for them specifically, and the country in general, the prime minister promised.

Below is a video of the entire address by the Prime Minister.

How stupid can you guys be to BELIEVE DNO lies and deciet? Listen Mia Mottley s response and compare it, plus Ross have a vet school in St. Kitts still and if they they had to penalize one person who resides in St Kitts they would’ve removed their operation their too.

Lennox and his baboons are busy reporting false information to the Dominican public for power again through this UWP Operative endeavour. St Lucia News Online had the real facts. DNO is Rubbish.

Many of you jump upon me when I suggested the following:

“The lack of loyalty should be enough motivation for government to seize the campus & all property and make available to a successor Medical School.”

Now the Americans owners – Adtalem considering transfer of Ross campus property to government – the handing over of the Ross University’s Portsmouth Campus property to government could be part of a “separation” arrangement in the dissolution of what Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has described as a forty year marriage between Ross and Dominica.

I spoke from legal experience & business expertise as to a political solution. Out of politics – many questioned my motives – well here it is – the “Americans” are not taking away your toilet paper … they want to use the property to compensate for the damages they are causing from breaking their agreements.

Dominicans, You all are extremely fortunate that Ross actually chose Dominica as one of her spots to build as university.
There are several reason why you all have been so “lucky” they even kept that university for such a long time.

My fellow Dominicans, in the early 1980’s two ministers of government in the Eugenia Charles’s administration threatened to close Ross university over an African student who claimed racism when in fact he had failed his grades due to lack of effort in his studies. Mike Douglas and Jenner Armour, although being on the opposite on many political issues formed an alliance to fight against the two ministers because they recognized how important Ross was to the north and they prevailed. Where has Ian Douglas been ? it would be a damn shame if the Portsmouth constituency reelect Ian and moreover the ministers of the north including the prime minister who have abdicated their responsibilities. I have said it before and I will say it again: We do not have any minister in the current government who can articulate any position. They are weak and lack innovation, foresightedness, acumen and the ability to communicate. They do not demonstrate any erudition. We need to get this government out !

Dominica cannot be a serious country. That is the only democratic country in the world, where the Government could be partly responsible for the lost of approximately 30% of its GDP, and that Government could still be in control of the country. Their are also the CBI passports scandal and National parrots scandal. Don’t forget, their are at least three persons who once held its passports that were arrested for money laundering and other charges. I wonder what is next instore for us, please God, help us.

Ross is a business venture… Not in a ‘couple’ relationship with Dominica! Until we start respecting business ventures (large or small) like we really depend on them, they will all leave.

Think about it. There have been so many of us in the Diaspora who have attempted to return to Dominica but we are quickly forced out. Dominica is not a welcoming place…perhaps we should learn to appreciate what we have.

My take is, UWP and it’s supporters do no wrong . To them they are the beginning and the end. No matter what one would say, tell, or do, once its not coming from THAT special BREED of creatures you are always wrong and prepare to be be slaughtered .
Expect any and everthing from THEM to bring disgrace and to see the country down fall. Remember they wrote to the IMF to stop the IMF from assisting the country. They went on CBS to degrade the country. They have used every outlet they can find possible to belittle Dominica and discourage those interested in assisting in the country’s development.. Yet them hypocrites and traitors say they love the country…………………. Now THEY blaming the Governmment and Skerrit. My QUESTION is, in a time like this after Maria, if UWP was in power would the situation be any different? Would Lennox prevented ROSS from making its move? Why are THEY not saying Ross MOVED because of their behavior.

Hello and good morning my people. Well our Prime Minister seems to be saying that Ross is leaving and that’s a benefit to our country. Well they stole our historian and our government rewarded their company with new construction contracts without complaining. Now Ross is moving to Barbados and he’s sounding like it’s in our benefit. Always remember to keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer.

I am a Ross student. I finished my courses and left the island in august just before maria hit. My heart goes out to you all for the chaos that maria caused and the damage it did to your beautiful island. I believe that ross left for one very basic and quite apparent reason. Dominica is very poorly developed. Even in the best of times the roads are very rough, there is extremely limited shopping, dining, and airport access. Ross felt that the island’s infrastructure was very poor and fragile. The inability of the island to rapidly recover and provide for the campus and its students was a deciding factor. The island struggled to provide for the needs of the students in the very best of times let alone after a major storm. Very poor infrastructure and the inability to organize a sufficient releif effort following maria. Blame it on whomever or whatever you like. I wish you all well and I hope the best for your people and nation going into the future.

    • August 6, 2018

Well said. A whole LOT of Dominicans are in denial. Dominica IS VERY POORLY DEVELOPED; still in 2018. Shame.

    • SammyJ
      August 7, 2018

      I’m a Ross graduate, class of ’09.

While I enjoyed my experience on the island, I knew it was for a very short term…So I made the best of it.

However the main issue is how poor the infrastructure is. It was only a matter of time until something like this happened, it’s no surprise. I am happy that Dominica is a “nature island”, as it really adds to her unique charm. But when you don’t have a half decent airport or a well staffed medical center/hospital in Portsmouth, it becomes a house of cards. Dominica was very lucky to have had this type of relationship with Ross for 40 years, but the island, the govt, did NOTHING to make use of that situation and the citizens are now ultimately suffering. They have had several decades to build upon that relationship…Roadways, emergency services, transportation, etc.

The people of Dominica are some of the warmest and friendliest I have ever met. Sadly, the elected officials are about as corrupt as any other politician…

Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque – my response to you and my fellow Dominicans from PM Skerrit & to all sun dry: – – – Until that time, when every one of you/us – realize – that we all have a crucial role to play in Dominica’s present and thus in its unfolding future – we shall remain divided because of petty politics. We will continue to lose to all others … other islands – like Barbados.

      August 4, 2018

Micheal, we all have crucial parts to play; However, part of that is not to prop up an idiot like Roosevelt Skerrit, that everything he touches turns to ash!

Roosevelt Skerrit has destroyed Dominica completely!

Number One: That guy is the most corrupted human I’ve ever encountered in my life! He believes that all it takes to run a country is tell lies to the people, by making promises, how can you in good conscience support someone such as Roosevelt Skerrit unless, you are benefiting something from him directly?

Micheal the theory goes; a nation takes about twenty-five years to build itself. After eighteen years of Roosevelt rule our nation should show some sign of  progress, but what we have under Roosevelt, all we see is the country spiraling down, it is in reverse! To be frank; ours is a failed State!

      Cont:

The nation people should be in the streets this day protesting demanding Roosevelt resignation, or a coup d’etat would be appropriate; the same as Charles Savarin organized in 1979.

Rather than Roosevelt, and his clowns such Tongue admit their incompetents and accept that it is their inability to run the country, which caused every company  which employed a significant amount of people: Ross the most recent to leave.

The fool Tongue out there talking crap about Ferry boat will give visitors access to Dominica, where do people like Tongue come from?

Under a rock or some other planet?

Now the fool Roosevelt sitting there lying, in his depressed condition talking he has something to match Ross, where did he hide his thing to match for more than twenty years?

All of Roosevelt lies has failed him, he is like a plucked bird stripped of all his corrupted feathers, there is no way out of this for Roosevelt, this new lie will help to sink you!

      2) Getting to Dominica is very hard. Barbados, St lucia have international air ports AND 5 star hotels, what brings them to Dominica and not there.

Guy that is a very stupid comment; it has everything to do with Roosevelt and the Labor Party, and the stupid ones like you who only see red and Roosevelt!

Who is the Prime Minister of Dominica for the past eighteen years, and five years prior to that; the years when the coalition of which Roosevelt was part of where the destruction of our nation began?

It was a combination Labor Freedom party which screwed the country to this day. Talking fart on political platform cannot develop a country.

It takes industries to provide jobs to the people, how many sustainable jobs via industries has Roosevelt brought to the country since he is Prime Minister?

You sound like the ju ju. Ross made a business decision it is that simple. What would you and your party have done to prevent Ross from leaving after they were affected by two storms within two years. Air access to Dominica is still a problem, the attempt by the UWP to build an International airport turned out to be a financial disaster, the current labour administration is paying back the loan taken by the UWP to build this airport and we have not one inch of runaway to show for it. The reason for this is that the UWP got the loan for the airport and used the money on other things like paying civil servants. With an international airport Ross MIGHT have stayed.

What is wrong with you people? You want the PM to build an international airport, you want a shopping mall, a hospital, new roads, new bridges, new schools, and lastly stop a major hurricane s from hit Dominica. Stop Hating, take a look around the community where you live and start from there. Clean the dirty sidewalks, the stinky gutters, put your garbage in the proper places, take pride in where you live and maybe things might change. Do ask what can Dominica do for me, we all should be asking what can we do for Dominica. Stop looking at people, places and things…. is not always greener on the other side.

“Michael, Stop saying what you think, and say what you know,
Ross leaving dominica is primarily because of lack of facilitation into the country, I am working at ross for the past 21 years ,UWP started something good, If labour had continued the airport, Ross would be here still , I know, ross want grow, While Dominica refuses to grow, For ross to grow, dominica have to grow, The world is quickly moving, Dominica is reversing, ROSS SAID, IS EITHER GROW , OR GO,
NO AIRPORT, NO BRIDGES, BAD ROADS, NO SHOPING CENTERS, NO HOSPITALS, NO JUSTICE, AND NO RESPECT, if YOU WAS ROSS, WOULD YOU STAY?”

Well Said again by Truth- we as a Nation desperately need to wake up & ‘smell the coffee’. Ross has been giving clear ultimatums & the Govt has failed to meet them plain & simple- Golden chance…

So the PM chooses to address Dominicans just a mere hours before Barbados has their big official ceremony for Ross?

The disrespect that this man treats the people of Dominica with knows no bounds!

Did ROSS only minutes prior notify him of their decision? Why the long silence? All those months IAN and labour party supporters screaming that people who ask questions about ROSS were bring the country down and “Haters of the PM”, “Haters of Dominica”…and that ROSS coming back full speed. Was the PM blind sided by Ross or are DOMINICANS tolerating to much from that government?

Skerrit is giving Dominicans false hope. I deal in these business arenas and despite comforting words from Ross, they will leave Dominica and we will get nothing from them. Those words from American business executives are just empty words. You cannot take these words to the bank.

Ross is gone and the people who invested in the area have to lick their wounds and count their losses. There is nothing Skerrit can do for them.

It is time to stop those things and look at what is happening worldwide, around us etc and put ourselves in line with Jehovah.

When the economy of the USA was failing the givenement bailed out companies that were too big to fail. All Ross wanted was an airport that was started by UWP 28 years ago and not even that Labour could finish.

Anti-american sentiments; deplorable roads, hospitals and airport; providing diplomat status to international criminals; the current government’s public hostility to opposition, and the unstable political environment teetering on dictatorship may well have contributed to this decision.

The U.S. State department has a responsibility to “ensure the protection of the U.S. Government to American citizens, property, and interests in foreign countries.”

Question: Why is it so difficult for us to think outside the box? Why does Dominicans – i.e we – make politics block any vision? RUSM leaving Dominica is not about Skerrit, or Labour, or Freedom or Workers. It is about the economy of all Dominicans.

So even if DLP is in power for the last 18 years, UWP had 4 & 1/2 and DFP was there for 15 during the life of Ross in Dominica – put that petty politics aside – and let’s put our head towards a solution. The past has already happen – let’s work in the present for a solution to this business departure so our common Dominican future is bright and overcomes this setback.

Let’s grow up, my people – be a mature nation – developing a country – not withstanding which political party is in power. Peace. One love.

Mr. or Mrs so called “Truth” – the medical school was founded in 1978 as The University of Dominica School of Medicine by Robert Ross – PJ was Premier & Mike Douglas was a major factor in the school coming to Portsmouth. In 1982, the University of Dominica School of Medicine formally changed its name to Ross University School of Medicine at the request of the Freedom Party government of Dominica.

UWP was founded in 1998. So your claim that “UWP started something good” is FAKE & FALSE. But that is besides the point.

Let’s think as mature individuals in a growing nation and find a solution.

      • op
        August 3, 2018

Michael Davis, the good thing that UWP started was the airport. Not Ross, based on what Truth wrote.

I know the current party and its members hate to admit it – but the fact remains that the UWP is the only government that has actually done anything concrete about that much talked about international airport.

And no, skerrit signing USD300 million contracts with a Chinese company and no matter how much he says he has saved money away for the construction – isn’t the same as, sourcing the main ingredient – locating and acquiring/purchasing the land!

    • Just saying
      August 3, 2018

Michael Davis, I agree with your comments totally. This is typical of us as a people and we need to move away from this constant negative thinking. We are our thoughts, if we constantly think that all is lost, then all IS LOST. This is the power of the subconscious mind at work.

As you rightly said let look to a solution to RUSM departure from Dominica.

This door is closed, let us look to opening another and stop staring blindly, dispendently and aimlessly at the closed door.
There are still a few righteous persons in this country, some of whom have apartments. As the bible says “many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all” God is not going to leave this country stranded.

For all you know this may be a Blessing in disguise. Have faith people, and let us start searching for a possible solution to this situation. Yes I have strong faith in GOD – The author and finisher of all things!!

      • August 3, 2018

I am not from your country as a matter of fact I am from Barbados.I am really sorry for the citizens of Dominica that this has happened to you all.As the Bible says when GOD closes a door,he always opens a window.Don’t let this get any of you all down,it’s easy for me to say this but remember,God will make a way where there seems to be no way.Dominicans are humble people, stay strong and keep the faith.

What they have not realized is that they are the ones who will be affected by it…. not the leaders of either party, be it Labour, UWP nor Freedom. Maybe next election, UWP should win, then there will be an international airport, Ross may reconsider returning or another university will open doors, jobs will flow like hot bread on the market and there will be less negativity on the island. Or maybe there will be no natural disasters to affect the island….give them a try. No matter what, people will never be satisfied with whatever is placed infront of them. Very unfortunate that Ross is leaving but we have to recognize the reasons why they have made this decision. The mere fact that the country was without communication for weeks while the families of the students wait in despair to hear from them. We were at the mercy of those who had satellite phones to transmit information around. Not even the government and law enforcement authorities had any means of communication. Finally, the inability of government to adequately assist Ross students and faculty, lead to this decision. I am extremely saddened for those who depended on Ross for their businesses.

The domino effect will soon begin!

Reply to this and state any domino effect you can think of as a direct result of Ross’ departure.

I see utility companies such as Domlec, FLOW, Digicel and DOWASCO losing significant revenue from the non-operational ROSS building itself and the students who would have used these services in the now EMPTY apartments.

I also see reduced revenue to LIAT as a direct result of the loss of the students flying to Dominica for studies.

    What is your domino effect?

It’s a sad day for Dominicans. This is no laughing matter. Some citizens are going to be seriously hurt financially and emotionally by this decision. I heard part of the PM’s press conference this morning. Mr. Skerrit is inarticulate, incoherent and unconvincing. Public speaking is a huge dilemma for him. This should serve as a lesson going forward. No country should so heavily rely on a foreign business entity. One of the most unfortunate consequences of this ‘tragedy’, some government ministers and officials unconscionably have blamed the opposition for this fiasco. Unbelievable! This just serve to further divide an already fiercely politically fragmented country. This Divide and Rule strategy must end as it only tears the country apart. There is an urgent need for unity of purpose, cohesion of ideas, togetherness of our efforts to make Dominica rise from the ashes.

Man bites dogs, small local businesses are the engine of growth especially for these vulnerable economies in the Caribbean. Most of the money made by these local entities do not leave our shores. ROSS UNIVERSITY was responsible for 30cents of every dollar that went into government coffers. This is similar to putting almost all your eggs in one basket, a very silly thing to do. Foreign businesses are strictly motivated by profit. As soon as any adversity, they shut up shop. This then places the entire country in financial ruins. The domino effects have disastrous economic and social consequences for the affected country. Unemployment escalates and crime follows closely behind. Nothing stops a bullet like a good paying job. Most of the Caribbean governments should focus more on indigenous businesses especially by boosting agriculture. Let us strive to grow most of what we eat and produce most of what we use. Depending too heavily on foreign entities is a recipe for disaster.

He and minister from north in argument over daughter and the father cannot talk cause PM have dirt on him. Increased harrasment of our young women for monetary favours to get education, blaming of everything else for our incompetence, abuse of our national symbols, constitution, dignity, and churches. Maria was a clensing and it is just what is happening. In a country run by fools with no principles and where men think deception is wisdom the people will suffer. It is only a matter of time. That is terrible news. The new owners of Ross has decided on profit – the insurance money – which is greater than the cost of repairs. Dominica Medical Board should withdraw it’s License and Accreditation immediately.

The lack of loyalty should be enough motivation for government to seize the campus & all property and make available to a successor Medical School. The medical school which was founded in 1978 by Robert Ross has created a history in Dominica which must be capitalized on to build another institution. Obviously the new owner must have found a new jurisdiction to grant accreditation to it’s institution.

The “Medical School of the Dominica State College” can operate on the Campus – the new school accredited and recognition by National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation through the U.S. D of Edu, allowing American students to participate in the U.S. Federal Direct Student Loan Program, Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in…

Michael I don’t know what your motives are. You want us to be like Venezuela without toilet paper?

      • Michael Davis
        August 3, 2018

My motives are to create a new Medical school on the former Ross Campus; mind you the land is on “lease” to Ross. In 2003, RUSM was acquired by DeVry Education Group which has since renamed itself Adtalem Global Education. They all about PROFIT!

The medical university can also received state-specific accreditation from California, New York, New Jersey, Florida and other US states if properly represented. Besides getting accredited by Dominica Medical Board – it can seek and obtain the same from the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation through the U.S. Department of Education, allowing American students to participate in the U.S. Federal Direct Student Loan Program
Dominica Medical Board, the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions & the General Medical Council of Great Britain.

If Robert Roos could have done it – why can’t a government back medical school not do the same? We have the history,…

This opportunity can be a tremendous improvement in the level of education Dominica provides for the up and coming science majors. No one can truly rejoice in the fact that Ross is leaving, knowing Dominica has invested a lot of it’s revenue into this foreign source of income. It is truly sad. But if this is the actual hard facts and reality we as Dominicans have to face, then we should truly capitalise. Let’s make the phrase ‘ as one door closes, another door opens ‘ hard reality and put it into action.

He likes to destroy and crush the hopes of Dominicans and after they are crushed he runs back with socalled resurrection story so he could be seen as ‘How great thou art’, just as we saw last month with the state college when he created a very bad image of the school and their debt and Dr. Peter should be held responsible only to run back days later to promote Peters as ambassador at large. Quite frankly, it was an embarrassment. This is a sad day for Dominica. Ross called Skerrit’s bluff and the citizens of Dominic, especially in Portsmouth are the losers. It is not Skerrit, who is on the breadline. Yes Maria did not help but many of the issues date from before that. Now Skerrit is talking about sharing the fruits with Ross. What fruits? 1) What demands did Ross place upon Dominica to facilitate their return?
    2) What assurances were they wanting/demanding that made a return unlikely
    3) Is it possible that Hurricane Maria simply provided a pretext for a conversation/reason/decision that has been had many times over the past 40 years?

It’s easy to blame Government or anyone involved, but without the full knowledge of their reason for not returning we’re only making noise. They are a business and businesses make decisions for their own interests, not for the countries they reside in, no matter how long the stay or history.

      1. What incentives were we willing to offer to entice them to stay?
      2. Were there any contingency planning done if our government felt that they would eventually leave?
      3. What happens to property owners and investors who are left holding the debt from construction of apartments?
      4. Who owns the property and are there plans to entice another medical school to occupy the space and commence operations on the island?

      • Paul Ettienne
        August 3, 2018

Property owners and investors who built apartments will need to find new tenants – from where? Who knows. That’s unfortunately just business. Perhaps the government of Dominica can bail them out – but it isn’t going to be Ross’ responsibility to take care of them.

Giving out contracts to Chines who bring in their labor force, and even the food the eat generates nothing into the treasury of the country, he gives several contracts to his advisers in Barbados friends, when there are people who could have built that same bridge.

God is not asleep, he deals with wickedness, and corruption in his own time. Roosevelt has exult himself above God when he said ” when people ask God for something and he take long to give it to them, when they come him and beg he gives it to them right away.

The dynamics that caused them to leave still remain. You guys actually think that, renaming Melville Hall Airport with expensive flights to Dominica and poor connection was the answer. There is no night life and any business ideas or project that conflicts with a few wealthy families on the island are immediately killed. Keep drinking Skerrit’s Kool Aid.

         That is what they believe!

They think there is something special about their nature island, and because they love their PM the world will cater to them and their baloney.

We knew for a long time that Roosevelt is not an intelligent person; he was a school teacher in Dominica, but it  does not take academics for that to happen. The man proved he is a fool when he allowed Ralph Gonzales to influence, and caused him to spend more then five ($500,000,000.00) hundred million dollars, which is more than half of a billion dollars installing landing lights on Melville Hall Airport, and rename it Douglas-Charles believing that is all need dictated by Ralph.

That would be the clincher to pull industries and people into the country. Roosevelt lack the ability to think cognitively, as a result he allows people to make a damn fool out of him, Roosevelt is not running Dominica, the people out of Barbados, and guys like Ralph Gonzales has ran Dominica for the past eighteen years.

Wow……..are any of your family members employed by Ross? Did you build any apartments in hope that they would be occupied by Ross?

I’ve seen some economically illiterate comments in my day, but this might be the worst one ever on DNO. I suppose it’s very appropriate that even your name is backwards.

The inevitable has happened. Sorry for those that wil suffer financially but who cannot hear will feel. I want to hear what those dumb laborats have to say who were in their own fantasy world thinking that “Ross would soon return”. This decision by Ross to leave the island was long coming. Maria just sped up the process. Maria was never the main reason as Dominca has always lacked the infrastructure, night life, activities, cheap prices, casino, strip clubs, etc to sustain the modern day American demands. Let me hear them dummy still say labor ka travay after they have been so slow and uncaring in their recovery efforts after Maria. Dominicans should ignore this monster named Skeritt and hold him accountable for misleading them into the darkness again and again because he constantly promised and repeated like an old broken record that Ross would be back.

The bottom line is Ross have a responsibility to look out for the safety, welfare and comfort of its students. That includes being able to evacute quickly and safely in time of emergency. Dominica does not and did not give that assurance. Dominicans should ask themselves a question. I know you have been here calling out the BS this gov been doing. If our government had held these principles to its people we would be in a better spot. It has been about them politicians with thier lies and deception marginalization and belittling of its people. A pm that claims he so love his people and his people love him yet he drives around with more security than fort knox like he shielded from someone. Dominicans will get more to come if they don’t wise up. A resillient country can only be accomplished when people are ressilliant and can take care of themselves.

You left out a very important aspect that Ross, as a medical school, needed to function effectively, and that is hospitals and clinics adequate enough to create a good learning experience for their students.

Breaking news???? Nope. Stale news. It was inevitable as death. I have just listened to the PM’s address and it was ambiguous at best, in regard to the way forward. He referenced some request made to Ross but he can’t say what it is. And I’m sure the press will not ask.
Just imagine in one swoop 30 percent of our GDP gone and the very volatile CBI brings in 50 percent of out national income. Where does that leave us? Wake up people.

Ross fairly recently signed a 25 year renewal contract, so I’m sure Skerrit is wheeling and dealing to get as much as he can for breech of contract. The sad thing is whatever deal is made, will the country benefit from it or just him or him and his cronies? Remember this carefully – there is a lot of money coming from this and he needs to be held accountable, which is why he’s saying he can’t say. This will make his personal pockets bulge even more. He doesn’t give a …. about the country.

Skerrit, he could not organise a drink up in a rum shop!! Believe me he isn’t get a penny from Ross. They are hard nose business people and they easily have the measure of a false doctor.
