who did the shooting? The Pplice. The Police shut who or whom? an unknown man. WHY? Being honest and fair can turn a major problem into a simple solution. Had the police punch back the person he the police could have been charged for disorderly conduct by fighting. If a person punches ,you would use the first available weapon you can lay your hands on and strike the person back. People must learn to keep their hands to yourselves.

Appalling level of violence for such a small population. We are glad we left and shall never return.

The police need to arrest the high office and high society criminals. Then the rest of us will know they are serious. We are watching these people get away with m***** so police, take it. That’s what you get. You sew lawlessness, then you reap lawlessness.

Someone ask ” why shot just for getting a punch” who does that?. Its not for getting a punch the officer shoot the guy but the disrespect, no one should raise their hand on anyone because of an accident. when trained to shot you are told to aim for the largest part of the human body.

    Excessive use of force !

employing your firearm is a LAST RESROT – when the officers life is in IMMINENT jeopardy ! It should never matter if this biker is a pain for other drivers or not . This officer took an oath, was properly trained by the Dominica police force and is fully aware that there are MANY other tactics to disarm an individual and should be held FULLY accountable for his poor judgement . If this officer is not reprimanded for this CARELESS over use of force on Dominican citizens.

Unless you were at the scene how do YOU know it is excessive use? All the report said was that the officer was attacked and used the weapon to defend himself. It gave no further details. so you jump rather quickly with ur conclusion. Do you know if the officer tried fighting off the attacker first? How do you know if he did or did not use it as last resort? smh

        Missy,

your point falls flat – as there was none to be made .
Had this officer been a civilian, he would not have had that weapon . If he was a civilian and discharged a firearm, he would have been arrested. Police officers should be held accountable – LIKE THE REST OF US. Civil servants take an oath to serve the people, therefore , they are to be held to superior standards. The idea of power and superiority are deadly when handed to those who are unable to control themselves. As an “officer” there are a thousand steps that should be taken before discharging your weapon, and as much as we don’t know what happened here – it doesn’t seem like he employed many of these steps. If the only thing a police officer can do to suppress an attacker is to shoot him…..then he maybe shouldn’t be a police officer to begin with .

Would it be that the message they are getting from powerful politicians is that they are authenticated and untouchable? Yes then the chickens are coming home to roost and I guess partner biker got some little chicks in him.

On the other hand this po9lice office is reckless- you shoot to harm officer not to kill- this seems like excessive force was used by this officer.

But so we go——- Hey Skerrit do you have anything to say about that? Or may be I will ask the partner Issacs – who don’t know either. Folks this is the tip of the iceberg – you aint see nothing yet….

Whether it is a Police Officer, or a civilian, if there is a disagreement we should be able to resolve it without violence. No one has the right to accost another individual, regardless of the person’s authority. This Officer believed his safety was being threatened, and he reacted. I believe he reacted correctly because if the perpetrator was bold enough to assault him, who knows what he would have done next. We live in a small country, yet our people spend an inordinate amount of time threatening and cursing each other over very small matters. Life is short, let’s all try to be less violent and more encouraging.

I am hoping that criminal charges are pending for this individual. He intentional and willfully assaulted a Police officer.

Unfortunately, these type of blatant violence against the Police cannot be manifested without punishment.

I applaud the Police officer for exercising restraint.

I await the “throw the officer under the bus” reaction from the so called Commissioner, his deputy and the Black-who -wants- Moore.

These bike boys have been given a card-blanche by “certain” politicians so they feel invincible. They now hold all the power to insult, beat and abuse everyone include police officers. What if it was not a police officer that was armed and could protect himself? sadly, while I do not condone violence, the officer need to go back to the range and learn to aim/ shoot properly. Who vex rush me now. Well done officer but your shooting skill is bad.

The word independence has taken the country by surprise. People trespass, take and carried away, abuse, make threats and think they can do and intimidate as they like because we are independent..Unrulely people. They are dangerous and should be remove from society. There is no if or but. The Law is there.

Seems like once a police is involved in an incident right or wrong just the fact that he is a police the majority of persons say he is wrong. The police officer is human he is a poor person’s child also and he has every right to defend himself. I am a biker too but I have noticed that the trend in Dominica now is once you have an accident with these characters especially those on motorcycles there first reaction is to lay hands on you. Ppl don’t beat their kids anymore how the hell he think he had the right to beat the officer. Who knows what would happen next if the officer didn’t defend himself. All those who claim to have seen him attack the officer first will never serve the officer witness but If the officer was wrong they all would go and give statement. These criminals have made it clear that they will kill police so police need not take any chance with them. I support the police actions 100%

In the 70’s and 80’s if you BEAT a Police Officer youare a DEAD MAN .Since Mr.Blanchard and Mr.Valarie were FIRED,people lost all respect for the Police. The abuse of the Police is WELCOMED by certain POLITICIANS.

While the officer has a right to defend himself, I hope he did not resort to deadly force too soon. Sometimes as an officer, you have to follow the use of force continuum before using a firearm.

A police officer was so badly beaten that he is now a cripple and has not received any compensation. He was off duty and was only trying to stop a fight. Now they are taking no chances so civilians have to learn to keep their hands to themselves.

These attacks happen so fast you never know what is coming next.
Those who are giving on the police should enter his shoes and tell me. Should he wait until he cannot move to try something? Think again people. When these guys attack you they are not playing with you. Think of that.

Who gave these idiots the right to put their hands on people including police officers. Some of you always busy to say poor people children but these thugs think they have the right to do as they like. I’m not sure if is the cool out or The commissioner of police that causing that…smh

@ newton native, this man is just lucky that this incident did not take place in America. Why? Because he would be dead man. Especially being black. So regarding your question. Who gave these idiots the wright? They are law enforcement. If i was a cop, and someone assaulted me. I would shoot them too. Dominican men have a reputation for assaulting one another even to death and they think its just ok. Why am i saying that? Because the black man is still ignorant and continue to demonstrate lack of having a healthy two way dialogue without confrontation.

      September 12, 2019

Hear this and listen well…. Police officers are humans and have a right to defend themselves. The officer may have been wrong for crossing over to the civilian’s side too soon.
but the civilian’s voice could be heard by everyone around shouting insults and threats at the officer. The officer’s voice could hardly be heard even if he was talking back to the civilian. Then another guy came and punched the officer in his face. This second guy got shot. He started the violence.

This is a classic case of one’s right passing as a wrong. A simple situation escalated because someone chose to react stupidly.

Our boys need to realize that behaving stupidly never works in their favor. smh

If you were there to see the events unfold you would shut your venus fly trap. The police was ever so calm and well restrained it was the fool from kingshill with the locks being all aggressive and instigating. For my part this shows what we as a people have been exposed to. A traffic accident is a matter for the police , but these guys tend to think that they can get up (after being wrong) and place their hands on people. Honestly , DNO should rephrase this article. It was high time an example was made.

I hope when you get attacked by the same lawless biker or his friends for whatever reason you don’t call the same police. We must NEVER forget that the same police we bash daily are those we call upon when we are on the receiving end. Yes, some are idiots, some a politicians, some are over-zealous and some plain out abusive but all are not the same.

We need the police so we MUST be fair in chastising them when necessary but support them when they are right. In this case I have said the officer needs better target training. We cannot allow civilians to abuse, disrespect or attack our police because they are / or feel “connected”. A lawless society leads to a failed state.
