The state of emergency and accompanying curfew which were declared by the Government on Wednesday September 12th ahead of the expected arrival of Tropical Storm Isaac, have been lifted with effect from 9:00 PM today September 13, 2018.

Prime Minister Skerrit made the announcement earlier tonight at press briefing held at the Financial Centre.

“The Chief of Police has advised me on the lifting of the curfew at 9:00 PM tonight, September 13, and I have accepted his advice and we will be advising His Excellency the President of this…and…we have advised His Excellency, the President of this and so effective 9:00 PM tonight, the curfew and the state of emergency shall be lifted on Dominica,” the prime minister stated.

The announcement follows the discontinuation of a Tropical Storm Warning for Dominica as Tropical Storm Isaac which threatened to impact the island today, has moved away into the Caribbean Sea.

The Prime Minister explained that the state of emergency and curfew were necessary to protect lives and property and to allow for the emergency and essential services to be able to carry out their duties unimpeded, in order to provide better, more efficient services to citizens.

Skerrit also ordered all public officers to report to work on Friday September 14 adding, “And of course, I am almost certain those in the private sector will report to work as well.”

Teachers and supporting school staff have also been asked to report to work on Friday and students will be allowed to remain home on Friday but are expected to be back in school on Monday September 17, 2018.

“And the only reason why we are allowing the students to stay home is that some schools have been used as shelters and we want to have them sanitized for school on Monday,” the prime minister explained. “But had it not been for that, every child in Dominica would have been at school tomorrow.”

Skerrit also said that by and large, Dominica had been spared the ravages of Tropical Storm Isaac and that there  was not much major damage to infrastructure.

“There’ve been no reports of any injuries, no reports of any deaths, no reports of any major damage to infrastructure except in Geneva where one abutment was undermined…the minister has instructed his staff to go in there tomorrow morning to have this corrected,” he noted.

The prime minister also mentioned the occurrence of “one or two minor slides” along the E.O. Leblanc Highway which he said did not cause any major traffic issues.

When we remember Maria and when we see what Florence is doing on the USA east coast, we must admit that we just experience a miracle, a blessing of protection from Jesus . Many people prayed and He answered our prayers. So let us continue to be thankful and appreciative.

The jokes are on the joking ministers and the joker chief of police and NEPO saying the storm “diverted” into caribbean sea, where else you wanted Isaac to go.

I woke up today, Thursday, September 13, to the sky so blue and everything was green, the sun was shining with such heavenly glow and warmth, and as I thought of Dominica, I said to myself: “No there cannot be another wretched storm in my homeland. And so it wasn’t; thanks to our Lord God, who is watching over us, all of the time.

By the way, I live in Toronto Canada, We had a few beautiful days this summer, but there were too many rainy days. I am hoping that God will give us an Indian summer, right into October

What curfew? Those rats wanted to destroy so they put us under curfew. But trust me while cats were asleep rats were busy dancing. Dominica is cursed with a corrupt government, a corrupt police head, a corrupt President and a corrupt AG. I cannot trust these guys to do anything that’s right because they too damn corrupt

Mr Damn Business……..have you been looking at the USA TV reports about Florence? Have you realize that but for the hands of God the whole of Dominica could be wiped out. Every building and every person: man woman and child could be wiped out. We could not evacuate, nowhere to run ,no where to hide and we experience a Cat 5 and survived. Florence landed as a Cat.1 on the USA east coast.
I am not going to tell you how to conduct yourself because you know how. We were all endowed with knowledge of right and wrong as social being. So its up to you.

Why is the Prime minister and other ministers driving around and visiting radio stations during a state of emergency and curfew. Shouldn’t they show the good example and stay home respecting the law.

I have given up on these people. I cannot imagine what could make me hate like this. Why on earth would people have allowed themselves to be poisoned like this?

I wonder if they sleep or eat? With that state of mind I doubt it. Thanks for joining me in condemning that behaviour. It is not good wherever it occurs.

Romeo, I will continue to believe that individuals like you, are simply a 10 or 12–year child, or an adult with the mind of a child. And yet there are many 10 to 12-year-old ladies and guys who would not write something so senseless as you did above. You need to come out from among the things of sensible people, you are not qualified to be part of that group.
