Bus driver tops Loubiere Village Council election

dno newsWilfred ‘Freddos’ Peltier is no stranger to public life. He’s been a bus driver for a long and has been part of the local calypso landscape for many years but he has now elevated his public profile by topping the the Loubiere/Madrelle/Fond Baron Village Council election on July 16, 2014.

Poll results which have been released showing Peltier receiving 96 votes while Rosamund Lebruin, who served as chairman for the past two terms, came a close second with 93 votes.

Derwin Peltier the brother of Wilfred, obtained 79 votes, Cathy Moise 72 and Janice Roberts a new comer to the race, with 70 votes completes the five elected members of the council.

Peltier told state-owned DBS that he happy to have been elected and to have topped the polls .

He had earlier expressed the view that it is time to “change” the laws regarding who becomes chairman saying “it was unfair for someone who had lost and not topped the polls to have the top post.” But after the election when the question as to whether he would vie for the chairmanship of the council, Peltier replied, “It is still early days for that.”

The other candidates in the July 16 election were Clara Walsh who got 63 votes and Rhoda James and Vanessa James who got 62 votes each.

Only one hundred and seventy-three people voted in the election.

DNO you all need to verify the Loubiere council election results and consult with the electoral office as to what can be done to correct this wrong. it is known that the boundaries of Loubiere begins at the river close to McMillan gas station, every one to the right from the river in in the jurisdiction of the council boundaries. it is also a known fact that Fredos lives on the other side of that boundary which makes him illegible to contest the council Elections.

There are few men in Dominica you should not trust. At the top of that list are Bus Drivers and Policemen. They always seem to top the list of womanizers and the exploitation of underage children, lack of respect for others wives. A sign of low moral.

The article is a bit confusing because the total number of people who voted (as stated by the article – 173) is much more than the total number of votes counted (597).

Were the candidates mentioned in the article only contesting the village council chairmanship or other positions on the village council? No other position was mentioned.

Wilfred ‘Freddos’ Peltier = 96 votes
    Rosamund Lebruin = 93 votes
    Derwin Peltier = 79 votes
    Cathy Moise = 72 votes
    Janice Roberts = 70 votes
    Clara Walsh = 63 votes
    Rhoda James = 62 votes
    Vanessa James = 62 votes

    Total Votes Counted = 597

According to the article: “Only one hundred and seventy-three people voted in the election.”

    Could DNO please clarify?

People are getting fedup in the way council election is being managed, that is why the voter turn out is so low. The people vote for the candidates they would like to represent them, yet the Labour Party Government put people they favour as their chosen three. The way they trick the people, all it takes is to have at least two other labourites among the elected candidates to vote for a chair man among the eight members. It is obevious among the five laboutites they will choose one of them for chairman wether they are last cacarat or no rat at all. At the end of the exercise a labourite will be chairman, yuou see the trick they are three appointment by government and and two making it five against three regardless wether you a in the top position it does’t matter to the government, but it matters to the voters that is why they voted for that person of choice.Let me also say if the top candidate is alabourite it makes it easier, but if you do not support the government crapaud suck your pipe. That is how labour run things they do not leave their people out. They cannot steal council election, but they can manipulate the outcome, making sure that the top position goes to a labourite. This will soon stop, they should give the people what they want, that is how progress and togetherness goes hand in hand.

Congratulations Freddos welcome to the Local Government and the other four persons. Congratulations to those who contested as well. The fact that you came forward is testimony that you are interested in the development of your community. I hope that at least 3 of you will be given an opportunity to serve as nominated members.

It doesn’t always go that way,if the minister is not in support of the nominated would be councilers she chooses her own people who will throw their support for the government. She has been discarded now, let me see who she will nominate after election.
