Hummingbird Air has received approval to offer connecting flights between Dominica St. Maarten. The company’s Canefield station manager informed DNO that they plan to commence service between Canefield Airport and St. Maarten on Monday June 1.

Hummingbird Air’s Canefield station manager, Ms. Andra Edwards-Lewis stated “St. Maarten is an important hub for both locals and tourists”. She indicated that there is significant demand for a Canefield / St. Maarten flight. “People have been asking us about flights to St. Maarten from the first day we started flying. They want to be able to leave Roseau and be in St. Maarten right away,” she noted.

“The only concern I have is that the permit they gave us is only for two flights every week, which is not enough. We plan to request more days because people will want to fly to St. Maarten almost every day,” Ms. Edwards-Lewis said.

When asked about the possibility of larger airplanes to serve more passengers,  she indicated, “that is the plan…it will take a little while because this is aviation and Rome wasn’t built in a day… but that is the plan”.

Meanwhile assistant station manager, Mr. Garth Thomas, expressed excitement about the progress the airline has made in its first year of operation.

“ We started with one airplane last July and now we have a solid company with three planes that fly to a number of islands. As a licensed pilot and having been involved in aviation for a while, I can say that the progress Hummingbird is making is amazing. It’s exciting to be part of a growing innovative company that prides itself in customer service,” he remarked.

According to Mr. Joseph, “Last month we introduced Shop Net, a new Internet delivery service that trans ships Internet orders to Dominica through the US Virgin Islands. This service is growing nicely. Our Shop Net clients are very happy with the fast delivery and new people are signing up every day. This is exciting and now we are introducing the BVI and St. Maarten as new destinations.”

Hummingbird put Liat out of business, they are not reliable. Hummingbird the next best thing to American Airlines

having had personal experience of the Shopnet facility that Hummingbird offer, I can confirm that it is a brilliant service. I order in the U.S., and my goods arrive here in just over a week! Other businesses on this island should learn from Hummingbird’s level of Customer Service. Well done.

Great news! I love seeing progress. Getting to Dominica is so difficult. Having choice and reliability is what customer service is all about.

I suspect they have been given an operating licence for only two days a week in order to protect LIAT’s scheduled 4 weekly direct flights between Melville Hall and St. Maarten (Li330 and 331) on tue/we/fri/su.
I hope that once it is found that Hummingbird’s 2 weekly flights from Canefield do not noticeable affect LIAT’s load factors on their route but in fact bring in more visitors to Dominica, the way will be clear to up Hummingbird’s frequency.

This is great news. Just to show what private enterprise can do, especially in the aviation and hospitality industries. Hummingbird is humming.
