Digicel is extending Christmas cheer this season and has catered to over 25 children of Petite Savanne displaced after Tropical Storm Erika.
The children, along with their guardians were hosted on the final day of Kairi FM’s Nature Isle Christmas Wonderland, an activity which was sponsored by Digicel.
Children received gifts from Santa and enjoyed photo opportunities with their favourite cartoon characters such as Minnie and Mickey.
One parent, Zethma Francis said the move by Digicel was greatly appreciated as it served to “reunite the children with friends and relatives whom they had not seen in a while, after having been relocated following the passage of Storm Erika in August.”
Digicel also extended Christmas cheer to other residents across Dominica, with its “Santa in the Streets” initiative. During its latest trip, stops were made in the communities of Mahaut, Layou, St. Joseph and Coulibistrie; employees interacted with customers in singing competitions to win phones and other prizes. A number of children looked forward to being up close to Santa who rewarded them with Christmas gifts.
Among the highlights was the presentation of hampers to the sick and disadvantaged individuals of Coulibistrie, a community still rebuilding after widespread devastation caused by Tropical Storm Erika earlier this year.
Digicel’s Marketing Manager Nathalie Walsh said: “It is part of Digicel’s mission to give back and it is an extraordinary feeling to see the reaction from residents of the various communities and the children smiling because they’ve received gifts and other treats. Digicel will continue to engage with the communities connect with the communities.”
The “Santa in the Streets” parade was also executed in Roseau and through Digicel’s “More the Merrier” campaign, five lucky customers win cash, trips, smartphones and shopping vouchers every week this Christmas.
