BUSINESS BYTE: Seaborne Airlines and JetBlue Announce Interline Agreement

seaborneSeaborne Airlines has announced that an interline agreement facilitating connections at Luis Munoz Marin Airport in San Juan, PR (SJU) to and from all JetBlue Airways flights at SJU has launched.  With the agreement, baggage can be checked at either JetBlue or Seaborne and bags will be transferred without having to be rechecked. Additionally, Seaborne Airlines tickets will be sold on jetblue.com and both JetBlue and Seaborne will be able to issue each others boarding passes in the coming weeks.

Last week, Seaborne Airlines announced new service from SJU to St. Kitts (SKB) and Nevis (NEV) effective January 15, 2014. With the additions, Seaborne will operate to fourteen airports throughout the Caribbean.  And in October, Seaborne announced the start of new service from San Juan to La Romana in the Dominican Republic effective December 12, 2013.

i realize that seaborne also has connections with AA. when i booked my flight on AA the PR to DA part said operated by seaborne that is such a relief not having to depend on leave island at anytime. the only issue right now is the overnight part. based on where you are coming from in the US, by the time the flight gets to PR it is too late. then again we cant tell the airline what time to leave so this part is beyond our control

Ok now that we got the luggage issue cleared, how about the overnighting issue?? I guess one small little zoogoolook step at a time? Aben weh papa!

Good question. My suggestion would be for Seabourne to adjust their schedule and depart- & return from SJU later. That way they can pick up passenger arriving in San Juan from mainland U.S.A. for same day arrival at DOM whilst connecting passenger have more opportunity to catch a late flight back to the U.S.A. out of SJU. BVI operate similarly in/out of St. Maarten,

    • November 13, 2013

Why would you have to overnight anywhere?

The airlines have no responsibility for overnights unless it is their fault. Make your flight arrangements in a manner where you do not have to overnight.

        November 13, 2013

the flight times are scheduled by the airline, it is not every time you can get a flight to suit the time you want to reach in order to get the connecting flight

I would love to see the face of the PM when Ralph Gonsalves, open Argyle International, i hope Skerro, will be there for the opening…then we will be left in the cold and only island in the East Caribbean without an international airport. My God help us!!

I guess everyone has an opinion. Love jetblue but also love American.

The airline choice is your, based on where you live. Personally, I am happy that Jet Blue and Seaborne has this agreement.

After I voted labor powder in 2000 I never thought I would read this piece of news that brings excitement to so many Dominicans, especially when one takes into consideration the flights that use to come to DA when the DLP won the election. After all guys, we moved from bad to worse! We need to face reality guys. Between 1995-2000, while in transit in Puerto Rico, I would run into fellow Dominicans, Vincentians, Kitticians, Grenadians and some Lucians all waiting to connect on American Eagle to their home country. Since the American Eagle went a different route and ALL other islands made advance provision to handle the slack left by AA except Dominica. All the other islands have other options except Dominica that has been reduced to a 34 seater.
When I read of the arrangement between Seaborne and JetBlue, I am left to wonder what about it that gets Dominicans excited. I mean we could always fly Jetblue, AA, AirTran, Spirit, South West and other airlines to Pueto Rico but our problem is PR to Dominica. Will this news solve our problem? If yes, then how? In fact with Jetblue we are allowed one 50lb luggage free. Will that continue when our luggage is automatically transferred to Dominica or do we have to pay for our luggage when transferred to SeaBorne?

      November 13, 2013

Never had a problem using seaborne. And oh, by the way, I have never been on a full seaborne flight. So, I believe, that seaborne is quite adequate for now.

    • November 13, 2013

      You made some valid points.

      (1) I think we did move “from bad to worse” a LONG TIME AGO.

      (2) “Since the American Eagle went a different route, “ALL other islands” made advance provision to handle the slack left by AA “except
Dominica.” THEY HAD LIAT, THEIR INVESTMENT.

      (3) “Our problem is PR to Dominica.” I think that with this new arrangement we wont have to wonder that much.

      (4) NO, this news/arrangement will NOT solve our problems.

      (5) Jet blue allows one 50lbs luggage free. Seaborne should acknowledge/assume ALL of Jet Blue’s arrangements.

If Seaborne charges Jet Blue’s passengers for the luggage that Jet Blue allows FREE, then we are really DOOMED.
Hopefully, ALL TRANSFERS will be AUTOMATIC.

We will leave the 34 seater alone, for now, hopefully we wont be reduced to a NO SEATER at all. I think what got “Dominicans excited” by the arrangement between Seaborne and Jet Blue, is that they will not have to face LIAT’s ANYTIME, WHENEVER flights and also MIDAIR CANCELLATIONS.

    • November 13, 2013

I think the people at Seaborne knows how to make business.

  12. November 12, 2013

Well to little to late after what we just endured travelling on Seaborne from Dominica and connecting to Jet Blue in Puerto Rico was pure hell. For those of us who endured the misery we said that if there are no other arrnagements to have our luggage checked straight through we will not be travelling until I am satisfied that we do not have to go through what we went through in Puerto Rico from Seaborne to Jet Blue. Well with that arrangement I guess travelling to Dominica will be much easier for in transition in Puerto Rico is pure hell when you have to recheck for another airline and Jet Blue terminal is so far from Sea Borne. Thank God for the solution.

Who cares! At the end of the day this agreement will only benefit Jet Blue and Seaborne. Dominica and Dominicans will continue to remain in the dilemma Skerrit and his DLP put us in.

Take a look at the piece of information published by Travel Weekly and tell me which one you wish was a reality for us:

New St. Vincent airport on schedule to open in 2013

    By Gay Nagle Myers

Construction is on schedule at the $240 million Argyle Airport on St. Vincent in the Grenadines, according to Glen Beache, CEO of the SVG Tourism Authority.

The airport is scheduled to open in 2013, replacing E.T. Joshua Airport. The runway at Argyle will be able to accommodate Boeing 747s.

More than 65% of the runway is complete, and construction of a three-story passenger terminal will begin shortly.

The new terminal will be able to handle 1.4 million passengers per year, five times the number that annually pass through the existing airport.

Mr. Gonsalves, please give Dominica the old airport you are going to discard because after all, our government brought you Dominica to convince our people that we could not afford one and you ran and build one right in our face. You mean that’s how Caribbean leaders FOOLING our government boy? Margwaysa!!!

no if or ands….. we a few daily direct from USA and Europe.
If we are serious about tourism we will do it.

    • November 13, 2013

I agree that “this agreement will only benefit Jet Blue and Seaborne.” “Dominica and Dominicans will continue to remain in the dilemma Skerrit and his DLP put us in.”

“Mr. Gonsalves, please give Dominica the old airport you are going to discard” since YOU ADVISED our government that we could not afford one. WHO LAUGH LAST, LAUGH BEST. I would say, Roosevelt, TAKE THAT.

I think OUR GOVERNMENT is ALLOWING the other Caribbean leaders to FOOL them. Why would Gonsalves advise Skerrit otherwise when he, Gonsalves, is trying BOOST HIS ECONOMY.

We do need a better airport. WOODFORD HILL IS PERFECT, and the land had been purchased. Even if we have to REBUILD MELVILLE HALL, EXTENDING it into LONDONDERRY, that is a PERFECT LOCATION too. WHAT IS THE HINDRANCE?

This is fabulous news. jetBlue is a highly rated airline and will undoubtedly give better service than AA. This gives all who travel in and out of Dominica to North America, New York City in particular since that’s jetBlue’s hub, a fabulous choice. To make it an even greater deal, this is what I propose to the government of Dominica – divest yourselves of that money you gave LIAT, take it or some back, and become an investor in Seaborne, with the intent in Seaborne getting a couple additional aircraft, which they can deploy to serve Dominica thru Grantley Adams and Hewanorra, where jetBlue also flies directly from North America, so now travellers will have different routes in and out of Dominica.

    • November 13, 2013

I think that Seaborne should purchase a few BIGGER fleets to ACCOMMODATE MORE PASSENGERS.

Good for Seabourne. L1at will be overtaken by its own incompetence and lethargy.

  24. Discombobulated
    November 12, 2013

Liat would be bankrupt if any serious competition enters the market. All these years of having a monopoly and still cannot make an organisation profitable nor give good service. Competition is what’s needed but they cannot handle it

    • November 13, 2013

LIAT will go BANKRUPT if LIAT do not make CHANGES. LIAT WILL SURVIVE, when its INVESTORS realize how POORLY they APPRECIATE its passengers, and how POOR they are at DECISION MAKING.

LIAT could be the only airline flying from point A to point B, but LIAT needs to make a BIG OVERHAUL.

    November 12, 2013

The incompetence of Leave Island Any Time Airline brought this about. Now that Jet Blue is involved, Sea Borne needs to add an ATR with more seating capacity and Dominicans traveling out of North America can by-pass LIAT for good. The most recent fiasco should be put to bed for us.
I hope ticket-pricing also reflects this latest move.
For those asleep at the wheel, don’t for a minute believe that executives at other airlines are not monitoring the various complaints lodged by Dominicans on the Internet.
Businesses do not make decisions by accident. LIAT is a garbage airline. Plain and simple.
