Capacity Building Workshop kicks off

The Dominica Association of Industry & Commerce held the first session of a capacity building workshop aimed at imparting knowledge and skills to Chinese traders and other merchants displaying a lack of critical resource in adhering to regulations guiding fair trade and business here.

The workshop is the result of concerns shown by the local merchant community about the manner and ethic of trade conducted by Chinese merchants.

At the first session held this morning (Monday), participants were schooled in Customs regulations and practice guiding import of goods and services. The session was very interactive and involved many questions posed by Chinese and local traders.

The workshop continues on Wednesday when participants will be facilitated by technical personnel from the Department of Labour. It is hoped that the session will lead to compliance with labour legislation and regulation and enable fair competition among businesses.

The workshop concludes on Thursday with the all-important subject of VAT.

Participation is free to all merchants and traders and is being held at the Public Service Union’s building on Valley Road, Roseau.
