DAIC encourages private sector to protect life and property

Dominica and the Northern Caribbean are monitoring the movement of Hurricane Irma, currently a Category 5 hurricane.

The DAIC encourages the private sector to take all the necessary measures to safeguard life and property.

The Honourable Prime Minister in his address this morning advised that Public Sector will close today at 12 noon. He has encouraged the Private Sector to do the same. DAIC encourages Private Sector to close at 12 noon, considering the safety of employees. It is recommended that those employees who reside farther away from their place of employment should be sent home to ensure their safety whilst travelling.

Further to the advisory from the Dominica Business Forum of which DAIC is a Member, we wish to remind the business community, especially those with inventory of goods in their business places and warehouses, to ensure that special provision is made to secure their facilities.

We encourage the private sector to cooperate with the national authorities and please take heed of any advisories issued in relation to Hurricane Irma.

We are hoping Irma shall weaken and decrease its’ impact on Dominica and our neighbours. In the mean time we encourage everyone to stay safe as we all pray for protection.
