The period November 22-30, 2010 was unprecedented in capacity building history in Dominica.
The Dominica Association of Industry & Commerce (DAIC) has identified a gap in management capacity at the middle management level which prevents managers displaying greater levels of responsibility, motivation, leadership and understanding of their roles, thereby making them less effective in the challenges facing business and industry in the growing competitive and demanding environment facing our country.
Middle managers are the conduit via which policies and strategies advocated by senior management are transmitted (and given action) to front-line employees who impact customer service and satisfaction. The weakness of this conduit has been identified as having a major impact on the overall performance and sustainability of enterprises.
The DAIC launched The Leadership Challenge Workshop under the theme “High Performing Organisations” and, with financial assistance from the OECS-EDU and the EU, took managers and supervisors through five intense daily sessions of learning and assessments. The workshop used work done by two eminent authors and leadership development experts, Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. This particular intervention has been used globally and is available in over 17 different languages.
The Leadership Challenge Workshop is an evidence-based leadership development programme backed by 25 years of original research and data from over three million leaders. Approaching leadership as a measurable, learnable and teachable set of behaviours, this proven leadership model proclaims Leadership Is Everyone’s Business.
This workshop was the first of its kind, targeting middle managers in a way not done before. The structured programme measured participants’ learning over the five- day period and involved them in group and individual exercises. An end-of-workshop learning assessment was administered and 85 percent of participants got scores higher than 60 percent. Practice assessments will continue at their places of work so as to realize the full impact of the training and development intervention.
The DAIC is contemplating making this intervention an annual one and so contribute to the positive impact on management capacity and business performance in Dominica. The workshop was delivered by Success Works, a regional training provider.
Good work DAIC. Now managers go manage your departments…… Do a good job
I hope the senior managers got the training to. Cause too many times middle management takes these courses about leadership and motivating staff and allowing creativity in departments and as soon as you walk into work the next day those news ideas are in direct conflict with the company culture created by the senior managers.
dominica association of IDIOTS and CLOWNS……..
It is interesting to just think that those IDIOTS and CLOWNS are feeding ITASSI MAN, clothing him, employing his children and friends, giving money to his community when disaster strikes, paying large duties and taxes to run his country and so much more. If those people are IDIOTS and CLOWNS, then what are you, ITASSI MAN? You and Sum Fing Wong are sisters? Fags? Alternative Lifestyle advocate?
But isn’t this strange? This news article from the DAIC has been on DNO since morning yet not one of the usual critics has the guts to commend the DAIC for a job well done. Where are people like “Sum Fing Wong” who seem to know so much about the DAIC? He must be too busy cashing in on the Christmas shopping at his dying businesses. I wished he would use his time to grow his business, diversify his products, employ experienced staff, pay decent wages, sell genuine products, etc., etc..
Hey DAIC, I will be frank: you seem to be focussed on your mission of strengthening private enterprise and you don’t seem to be deterred by the negative press comments following your take on the boycott matter. I am now noticing that while many of us were criticising you, you were busy training managers to take Dominican enterprises to the next level. Thanks.
No you have it all wrong –they choose to ignore that oufit…get it correct. That body has lost soo much of its standing that no one bothers to comment…….That is a shame
Ken, that is BS to the max. A week ago, the DAIC was the hottest topic on DNO. So you are wrong. People do bother about the organisation.
