DBF to host post budget public discussion

The Dominica Business Forum (DBF) will host a public discussion on the 2017-2018 National Budget at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday 15th August, 2017, at the Fort Young Hotel.

The main objective of the public discussion is to sensitize the general public on the National Budget of 2017/18 recognizing that the presentation and debates are over, the budget was approved by parliament and the public discussion is necessary for the implementation stage.

The discussion will be preceded with a multi-media presentation of highlights of the budget presentation of the Prime Minister and the response by the Leader of the Opposition, followed by two (2) hours of discussion.

DBF member organizations will be allowed 10 minutes to present on the section of the budget deemed relevant to their sector for the first hour.

The second hour will be open to the public for comments and observations with the public being given a maximum of three minutes for their intervention.

Private citizens will be given priority over any parliamentarian who is present since it is understood that the parliamentarians had their opportunity in parliament to make their contributions and the activity is aimed at the private citizens.

The activity shall not be used to promote any political party or the agenda of any political party.

The activity is intended to demonstrate the maturity of the Dominican public in discussing national issues within a peaceful environment as objectively and respectfully as possible, where diverse ideas can contend.

Attendees are advised to familiarize themselves with the contents of the budget in order to make informed contributions which will enhance the level of the discussion.

The Dominica Business Forum is the umbrella organization of numerous private sector organizations in Dominica and the post budget discussion will be the third high profile event of the year following the Private Sector Business forum in February and the hosting of the Executive Director of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica in June.

The Dominica Business Forum anticipates a lively, informative and educational discussion that will uplift the consciousness of the Dominican population towards national development.

The event is supported by DBS Radio and Q95 Radio and will be broadcast live on both radio stations.
