DEXIA’s Business Gateway, Youth Development Division announce business workshop

The Business Gateway is collaborating with the Youth Development Division to host a workshop on entrepreneurship development on Tuesday 21st September 2010 from 8:30am to 3:45pm, at the Public Service Union, Bath Road, Roseau.

Facilitators for the workshop will come from technical staff of the Business Gateway, the Dominica Bureau of Standards, the Youth Development Division, as well as from the private sector.

This workshop aims to expose students to the basics of entrepreneurship, assist them in the preparation of their school based assessments for CXC, and facilitate the development of a sustainable business within the school, which can serve as a training ground for entrepreneurship development. Some of the areas that the workshop will address are entrepreneurship and innovation, making the most of your money, business plan basics, knowing and maintaining quality standards, as well as marketing your business.

Participants for this workshop will include students and teachers from the Portsmouth Secondary, Isaiah Secondary, Goodwill Secondary, Castle Bruce Secondary, and the Dominica Community High Schools, as well as Youth Officers.

The Business Gateway is a private sector development programme funded under the European Union’s Special Framework of Assistance (SFA) 2004, and the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, and is being implemented by DEXIA. The Programme is aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the private sector in Dominica, through an innovative programme of business support services.

I do appreciate that effort. I see it as a step towards wholistic independence (Mental and Economical)…is time that our capitalist type of education system become more functional in a Quasi-Freemarket system like ours…!
