Dominica to sign OECS Economic Union Treaty today

Charles Maynard, Dominica’s ambassador to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), will form part of a Dominican delegation which will be in St. Kitts Tuesday for the signing of the OECS Economic Union Treaty.

Dominica has signaled that it will sign the accord, which is intended to further deepen integration among OECS member states.

Maynard says the treaty will benefit the sub-region, particularly in a time of global crisis.

“Looking at the global situation, the countries cannot remain as they are,” the ambassador asserted.

Maynard said the OECS Economic Union Treaty will signify that member countries share a single economic space, “so we treat each other as a single country,” he stated.

The signing ceremony is scheduled for 5 pm.

St. Kitts was also venue to the signing of the treaty of Basseterre that established the OECS in 1981.

The countries making up the OECS comprise Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Nevis and Montserrat.

DOMINICANLOVER I agree with you totally, unity is strength. I’m so pleased to see our tiny region in the western hemisphere is finally getting their act together economically and culturally. Our ancestral continent will forever remain backward and disunited because greed, ignorance, and tribal conflict will ensure that Africa remain in the dark ages….

Brain Washed, I have a paper certifying that I am mentally disturbed, it’s from the school of St. Lunatics. I remember that day clearly. The pardna in the white coat tell me “son, you’re certifiable”, then he gave me a paper, my motha say it’s a prescription, but I kno it’s my degree, bcause I was there 6 months b4 he set me free. So if I make any sort of sense to you it’s the pardna in me head talking, he doh like church and I doh like politics but we always agree on ethical morality. Jesus I can’t stand him.
Brain Washed I will be lookin out 4 u.

Prophet 2, please read the history of Venezuela; then read the history of Haiti, the history of Jamaica. If you have the inclination, “Black Jacobins” by C.L.R.James and “Capitalism and Slavery” by DR. Eric Williams. The commitment to regional unity and progress is not a recent avocation of megalomaniacs; the history of the entire region is interconnected from Bermuda to Punta del Fuego.

Prophet the bible said it is better to love than to prophesy. Remember America only fullfilled her potential when she United. As black people we have to learn how to put aside our differences and unite for the greaer good.

The reason Africa is at the bottom yet she has all the raw material is because Africa have not learnt to unite.

This not fulfilling prophecy it is good economic sense.

Lol. well you are not mentally disturbed after all. Smile.

I like healthy debate and exchange of opinion, especially to know that there are quite a bit of sound minded and logical thinking people in Dca despite us being referred to as ignorant. This makes me happy and gives me hope since a lot can be acheived through reasoning and thinking together rather than the clash of words people tend to take on and that gets us nowhere at all.

To me, it’s important to express healthy views on public fora like DNO because of the traffic and the thousands of people we educate in one way or the other. Its a simple but effective way of reaching out to the masses. Not everything has to negative or biased. Thanks

Ok now I’m relaxed, before I was mentally disturbed having just gotten out the asylum. But angry I ain’t.

It is not quite what’s going on in world politics that is linked to world prophecy, but rather what’s happening to humanity. Politics has and always will be the same, just business companies (nations) trying to make a profit often times by having to leaving someone somewhere shorthanded, they’re no more prophets of doom fulfilling prophecy than CEOs just on a grander scale.

I don’t think there is any devil in disguise of a good shepherd, just men lusting after greed and power, we all got the devil in us, some more so than others. I don’t think ppl will ever mistake any politician for a good shepherd not even Obama (folks just love the refreshing change and vision that he has brought to the game).
I wouldn’t say you lacking logic one bit mate, contrary I was following yours quite nicely, I just lost you once you brought the verses in, cause the way I see it, I just try live by the scriptures and it seems like the politics seems irrelevant to me, I simply wish them all to have ideals and pursue it as clean as possible, their politics can affect my day 2 day livin but not my intentions to follow the scripture.

Off I go again back to the asylum.

So even if politics and religion dont mix, why cant one use the scriptures to explain and understand movements in politics especially if we say we are a christian nation. But it seems to me we are more atheist than ever, just pure hypocrits talking about anticorruption. As said by ripley’s himself, Proverbs. 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct Thy paths.

I fail to understand why we dcans fail to disagree with others without the hate, anger and tongue lashing.

So if our politicians have no morals when it comes to politics and forget about what they hear at church, who is to set the precedence of what is wrong or right in our country, and what the heck are we complaining about with the outcome of the December 18 elections?

We are so warped in our own little think boxes its destroying the country. No insight, no perspective, no one tries to reason, and people just cuss because they dont agree or understand a view. Some of these comments dont even make sense. People just vex and bitter.

Quite frankly we are failing our youth with this negativity, anger and harshness we are spreading. Shame.

  9. December 29, 2009

Thanks Prophet2 for that link. So why is Ripley angry with me?

This is what I said re Chavez: Its just a pity that Chavez , despite his vision for the Americas, tends to lean a bit too heavily towards communism, so we as OECS countries NEED TO FIND BALANCE.

Basically expressing the same view though not in detail. So im happy for the comments made by Len in that article.

    Nice discussion, isnt it.

  10. That church and state should not mix is unquestionable. And I dont remember alluding to that. I actually responded to an earlier comment made by Spirit re the bible scriptures. My comments on the EU, US and Chavez were on a different note. So take it easy. Relax.

But… Why do you think we can’t apply bible scripture in every aspect of our lives. Why are you so quick to refute that what’s going on in world politics and events are closely linked to bible prophesy and many of the things that certain books in the bible specifically warn about… except if you are in total rejection of the Bible.

By seeing from this perspective why do you think religion is necessarily mixed with politics instead of being applied to life for as you said – guidance?

If Iwe believe in a living God and see Him as the one in control of this life on Earth, and that there is a devil in the guise of a good shephard who is set to slander, lie, cheat and kill, why should we as believers isolate God’s plan and the Word on latter days from our daily life, even politics and governments who affect our lives in so many ways? Dont you think that certain leaders in the world and the role they play will influence and partly shape the future world order?

Why so much anger and rejection from you guys? …My lack of logic? Or is it a lack of you trying to understand, Or to see things differently? Do you think that the things to come are isolated in the church or are only war and pestilence, When maybe the greatest pestilence of all time HIV/AIDS is ignored, a common matter, no longer feared like nothing is wrong while we continue with our normal lives?

We will know not and see not the things to come if we are living in it, integrated in it, familiar with it and are part of it…

Arent our politicians church goers with some sort of belief too and family values? Wasnt the United States founded on the grounds of “in God we trust” even if state is separated from church? Dont you see little Dominica as part of the bigger international game, when we are in the fore front of pursuing the dream of the Americas, and have significant ties with China, Taiwan, Cuba, Japan and the EU? Hahaha, very interesting. I actually love your quote:

Proverbs. 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct Thy paths.

Im in no way offended by your comments Ripley, I am enjoying the dabate but Id prefer less anger and the sense of hatred that’s currently plaguing our country. It’s all about moving ahead for the better. Smile

to Brainwashed; – i started reading ur comment with interest. must say that u have completely strayed from ur topic.

the scriptures dat u quote DOES NOT refer to politics. that was sound doctrinal scriptures the Lord laid up for the Church, not for politics. i’m sorry to tell u dat i can’t sit here and not educate u on that.

these scriptures were used and cautioned to believers as to how to guard ourselves from the world and all the things that will come.

hope ur not offended by me shedding some light on that to u and others who read.

GOd bless us all in our Beautiful country.

Proverbs. 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct Thy paths.

    Brain washed ssshhhhhh!
You were making perfect logical sense until you started spitting scriptures to dismantle your logic. Don’t you kno that politics local or international just can’t mix with scriptures. Even the most honest politician has to give up on ideals to achieve some kind of goals. Scriptures is personal it just can’t mix with the game of politics. If you want to be bothered with the isms and skisms of politics then do that, otherwise if you’re bothered with the scriptures then the politics of politicians won’t matter to you because your goal will simply be to live right and hope the politicians do the best they can.

Oh yes, prophesy is fulfilling. No doubt about that. Many false prophets are out there more and more discrediting the Holy scriptures, and we are blind to it.

But really, colonialism has over time evolved and taken new forms – serfdom, imperialism, slavery, anexation, neocolonialism, economic and psychological colonialism. Its high time we come together, build more sustainable economies, be more interdependent on each other and fortify our moral and christian values.

The US and EU have only provided us with economic alternatives that they fully control – they promote them and destroy them – look at tourism – we are little pretty islands where people come and build hotels then ship out when tax holidays are up, then thousands of people are jobless. Our agriculture is suffering because these same countries are tapping into cheap labour in Latin America as they please, then they talk about level playing field. Of course, latin american countries which allow that are members of the G20 and oecd which maintain the international status quo.

Only one man openly stands up against that nonesense, and that’s Chavez. Fidel has made his name already. Its just a pity that Chavez , despite his vision for the Americas, tends to lean a bit too heavily towards communism, so we as OECS countries need to find balance.

The minute you stand up against the EU or US, you are sanctioned, your economy suffers and then off to IMF you go, putting economies in the pockets of the EU and US all over again the minute you find some sort of economic independence; hence only perpetuating economic and psychological colonialism and slavery without realising it.

So people, open your eyes, observe what is happening, and work for the betterment of our countries. At times we must take a stance, at times we must balance.

    – And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. (Matthew 24:11)
    – Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.(1 John 4:1 )
    – Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves (Mat 7:15 )
    – For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. (2 Tim 4:3 )
    – They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths (2 Tim 4:4 )

As times get tougher, the smaller islands may have to merge to have a chance at economic stability as does europe. We still should be vigilant but to not give it a serious look would be foolish.

Good stuff, now we have to keep Chavez out, he did apply to join the OECS and I think his intention was to take over the little ones, he’s a bully. There are already 3 OECS states in ALBA which is scary.

My concern is that if a state grants or sell citizenship to lowlifes then they can move and live in other states and become a nuisance to those states which is not fair.
