DOMLEC boss calls it quits

Cover is to resign with immediate effect
Cover is to resign from DOMLEC

General manager of DOMLEC, Collin Cover, has tendered his resignation to the company’s board.

A release issued by DOMLEC on Tuesday afternoon, does not give any reason for Cover’s resignation. It states, “Mr. Cover joined DOMLEC in 2009 and has made a significant contribution to the company.   Chairman, Sarah MacDonald, and the Board of Directors wish Mr. Cover every success and thank him for his leadership during the past five years.”

The release continues, “LPH (Light & Power Holdings Ltd of Barbados) which acquired majority shares in Domlec in 2013 believes its expertise in the utility business and the resources of Emera together combined with the capability of the dedicated senior management team and experience skilled employees at DOMLEC, will ensure that the company continues to focus on delivering a high quality of service to customers in Dominica with safety remaining a high priority for the utility.”

It added that as part of LPH and Emera Caribbean group, DOMLEC will continue to have access to expertise within the group and this will help during the transition period.

Light & Power Holdings (LPH), a subsidiary of Emera Inc., owns 52% of DOMLEC, with the remaining 48% held primarily by Dominicans, including 21% held by Dominica Social Security Scheme.

DNO has been informed that DOMLEC will hold a news conference at 2.30 pm on Wednesday where more information is expected to be given about the matter.

We were told that both Collin Cover and Peter Williams, the Managing Director of LPH, will be at the news conference.

A release from Domlec does not give any any reason for Cover’s resignation.
A strange wind , from the Rockies is blowing across the Caribbean. Just last month , April, the Managing Director of the Barbados Light and Power Co, tendered his resignation in a similar manner to Mr Cover ,and just as abruptly. Old Mc Donald is sure separating the sheep from the goat on her farms.

I don’t give a hoot about Collin Cover.
I’m not happy about over 4 Million dollars (profits) of our money going to a Barbadian company.
Others getting Rich on the backs of Poor Dominicans.
Tell the Government: Lets take back what’s ours!

That 4 million profit is on its way to Canada, not Barbados .

In these hard times people don’t resign these top positions voluntarily. The man did not jump, he most likely was pushed. Was he undermined by one of his senior managers?

He seemed to be one of the better corporate executives in Dominica though. Very respectful of the skills of his management team…must have been a tough decision for him to make.

Just couldn’t keep sucking the poor on behalf of this beast Domlec. More reason Dominica needs to buy their company back, at any cost. After all, it will pay for itself in short time and keep generate much needed revenue for the country. It’s a no-brainer, a win win for poor Dominica.

Exactly. Local managers are from among the people ,knows the customs , expectations , woes and feelings of the people. But this does not count in Emera’s books. Money to send back to their shareholders in Canada does. Layoffs may not be for off on the agenda.

Unprofitable BL&P sir? Come again. BDS $44 million in profit was realised by Emera, and passed on to their share holders in Canada. The former owners of the Utilities in the Caribbean chastised us with whips, Emera is using scorpions.

Could it be that his bonus was not enough?that cause him to quit.

  16. May 27, 2014

Just to let you guys know that no company gives out the exact amount of profit they make. The higher the responsibility given to a man, the more pressure on his mind. He couldn’t take the pressure any more ,so he had to quit.

Just moving on to a better situation. Don’t you think after being praised for such a good job and seeing to the effort of making these profits year after year he would not get offered a better job with an overall better package? Only obvious.

Did he not have the GOVT permission or blessings to provide the public the information of 8.7M dollars profit made by Domlec in 2013……….
Just a thought because it would be difficult to understand how a board of directors would allow a gentleman who brings a company this level of profit in this tight economical environment to resigned.

poor mr. Cover. I don’t know why he resigned but maybe it all became too much for him. Remember the manager before him had a heart failure on a Liat flight and was found dead in his seat.
That job can not be easy.

So what? Domlec is not the man’s private business! There are many reasons for someone resigning from a job. Let’s not speculate and wait for the press conference.

After that huge profit of more than EC$ 8 000 000. 00 . I would really want to know why! Is it that he is thinking that in such a poor country that profit margin was too much?
