Don’t be fooled people. Many countries of the world are enjoying a bigger reduction. We must ask ourselves, how long will be the reduction. I believe it is to cool down the pressure on the Skeritt led administration by vehicle owners because of the draconian road maintenance taxes. A wise leader like Hon Lennox Linton, God forbids, if he would have the country in the situation Skeritt presently has it, would rather leave the gas prices as they are and remove the road maintenance taxes.

This drop is just a token gesture. Everywhere in the world the pump prices are set according to the crude oil price on the world market. If I consider that the crude oil prices recently dropped by almost 20%, the pump prices in Dominica should have dropped by at least 2 Dollars. But the regime calculates differently: every increase in the crude oil price is answered by a direct increase on the pump, but a decrease in the crude price is only passed on to the tune of 40% of the actual drop. Has Dominica not noticed it jet, the regime is using the gasoline and diesel prices to top up their empty coffers. If there is a scam to be thought out this regime is brilliant in doing it. If only they were half as good in governing the country!!

this comment is proof that if you put together some poorly structured comments, people will fall for it. Gas prices change based on consumption and demand. A small island nation like Dominica does not demand the amount of oil of Miami, making gas in Miami cheaper because there is a higher supply.

Is that so, aren’t you a clever one? And where did you get you wisdom from? I used to work a long time for Shell PLC and I know exactly how the pricing works. What credentials might you have apart from being a Labour supporter?

You are absolutely right. In Florida the price of gas is about US$2.50 per gallon. That works out to EC$6.80. Gas prices in Dominica should be about $9-$10, for the most in Dominica. The regime keeps taking most of the money through taxes and keeping the price way higher that it needs to be.

If you want to comment on here tell the full story! It might well be that it is more expensive but tell us what the average income is where you live. I guess it is at least ten times of that of the average person in Dominica! Furthermore, car prices are presumably half of what they cost in Dominica.

Are the bus drivers going to lower the passengers fares? They always demand an increase when ever there’s a hike in the prices.
On an other note, when oil was selling for more than US $100.00 a barrel on the open market , we were buying petrol at $14.00- $15.00 EC per gallon, now it has been slashed by half, why are we not buying petrol between 8 and 10 dollars a gallon?

  7. August 17, 2015

Why exactly does Dominica need price controls for this set of products anyway? It’s not like petrol stations are publicly run, so let them compete on price.

  8. August 17, 2015

Oil price has dropped sufficiently why gas price slightly dropped, We should have enjoying at least over 1 dollar drop like other countries, Increase will be more when oil price start climbing.

The fuel is still too high, there is too much government taxes on it. Actual gas price is ABOUT $5.59ec a gallon landed. Government taxes are ABOUT $7.37 and this is being reasonable since 100% is added just for freight charges and everything else was marked up to make the actual cost a little more. drum/barrel of crude 43 gallons and you get about 22 gallons from a drum. A drum/barrel of crude is under 43.00us.
