Gas prices go up in Dominica

gasDominicans will from today Friday April 17 2015, dig a bit deeper in their pockets to pay for petroleum products, as the prices of these products increase, effective Friday.

The price increase is due to the continued fluctuation of the price of oil on the world market.

Director of Trade, Mathan Walter, said the new prices take immediate effect on the island.

“From today the 17th day of April, the prices of petroleum products will experience a slight increase,” he told Dominica News Online (DNO).

The price of gasoline will go up by $1.78 to $12.06 per gallon. Previously a gallon of gas was $10.28.

Diesel will increase by $1.07 to $11.08 per gallon. Previously it was $10.01.

Kerosene will now cost $9.55 per gallon up $1.09 from $8.46.

Walter said fuel prices are susceptible to change as there are various processes, such as bidding, that determine the cost of petroleum products.

The new prices for LPG are below.

Was $25.63, Now $ 25.75

I am not surprised. Where do you expect Skeritt to get money to fund the five big DLP fellers that were given jobs. Where do you expect Skeritt to get money to fund the many trips he and his foreign minister had taken. Where do you expect Skeritt to find money to fund the pit toilets he talked about just this week. Where do you expect Skeritt to find money to fund the trips given to Peters, Nantan and Martin. Where do you expect Skeritt to find money to fund the salary of Charlie. Where do you expect Skeritt to find money to fund the salary increases for public workers, school teachers, police and where do you expect Skeritt to find money to pay the Jamacan that was arrested and prevented from singing in Dominica.

Yes Sai! Some Dominicans that don’t understand their A** to their Elbow are always the first to spew their negative comments. They don’t take time to read and understand anything. Once the matter relates where the Government is involved this is it for them. Especially them UWPites. Gas price can change at anytime. Even in the US..In the morning you go to a gas station to purchase gas at whatever price it maybe at the time, later in the afternoon, you pass by the very same gas station the price per gallon goes up so what the heck you HATERS are commenting about!?

How can the DLP government justify this latest increase?? According to the Director of Trade it is due to the continued fluctuation of the price of oil on the world market. What utter nonsense, do you think we are stupid? I’ve just checked the price of crude oil: WTI Crude at US$56.71 and Brent Crude at US$60.40. Now bearing in mind that last time around, when Crude was at US$49.00/52.00 the pump price should have been much below EC$10.28. At todays Crude price they could just about justify a pump price of EC$10.00. This is all money making by the DLP government on the back of ordinary Dominicans. Why are we putting up with it on a daily basis? We need to put a stop to this now, we need to stop this wicked regime! Skerrit does not work for Dominica, he only works for himself.

Typical Duminicans. Have anyone of you with your stupid comments ever taken the time to check what the price of gas has been in the other islands while we in Dominica were enjoying $10.28? And now what the other islands are switching to today? For once Duminican try talking sensible and stop making Dominicans look like an illiterate bunch of fools.

Did you know that fuel sellers on the island are guaranteed 70 cents profit on every gallon of fuel sold on the island by the government? Like the deal with DOMLEC and before it, Cable and Wireless, this is yet another monopoly in profiteering on the island that is built on the backs of a small work force and wages that are wanting.

It would be nice to obtain concrete facts and take into consideration the crippling financial dynamics on the island before the outright name calling.

      Just my two cents.

You are the fool – your children will weep . The likes of Skeritt has raped the country to nothing. The other islands seem to be keeping their head above water – there is no sustainable economy in Dominica – Crime will go up , people wont be able to afford these price increases

    April 17, 2015

This is utter crap by the ministry and dominicans need to start to protest. The government needs to publish the price build up for us to see what is going on in this place, this is not correct. Give us the price build up for us to see how that increase come about and what amount of taxes is included in the price.

The government is using the gas price mechanism as a revenue generating tool and this should not be. Every time their tax revenues from VAT falls they see it fitting to dig out the people eyes by using the mechanism to increase their revenue. Dominicans must demand transperency

Stop that crap and stop playing ………. Gas go up everywhere in the world my God was wrong with you people?

    • April 17, 2015

Don’t be a fool. In the USVI Hovensa was adjusting the price of gas on a weekly basis.

    • The Facts
      April 18, 2015

Some of you ask for and expect too much. You are bold. You exceed your rights as a consumer. You do not need to know statistical information on how the increased cost was arrived at. Prices are set and the people have no choice but to pay it. The increase is not high.
It is normal that they will complain about the higher cost. This goes for every country in especially the democratic world. Furthermore, prices will never remain the same. Higher costs are inevitable.

Wait now hold up. Crude jumped a little 0.8% from its all time high, and fuel prices are already reacting in D/ca?? Eh beh, when it was time to give the consumer some relief from falling prices, it took months. Man the price increase was an even faster adjustment than the US economy.

Bondi, I had a feeling this was coming since the P.M. indicated that his revenue is not meeting expenditure. Is Dominica technically bankrupt?
