Gas shortage in Dominica

Motorists at a gas station in New Town late Monday evening

Long lines of vehicles are now queuing up at gas stations as news spread of a possible gas shortage on the island.

At the Newtown gas station, long lines of vehicles can be seen along Victoria Street as vehicle owners try to get whatever is left at the pumps.

“I heard that we will be having a gas shortage on the island,” one vehicle owner told DNO as we tried to inquire about the reason(s) for the rush for petrol.

Both the Texaco Gas station and the McMillian Filling station at Castle Comfort have already run out of petrol as well as the 7-11 petrol filling station on High Street.

“We just didn’t get any gas,” a gas attendant told DNO late Monday at a gas station in New Town.

During the day, people were also having problems getting liquid petroleum gas (cooking gas). “No cooking gas and we are not sure what is happening,” said one seller of the product.

DNO has also been informed that the PDV petrol, which is sold on the island, is also in short supply with no explanations given.

Late Monday evening chaos reigned in New Town as a long line of vehicles was seen stretching from that area past DBS Radio and into Roseau as motorists searching for gas mixed with ordinary motorists just trying to get home.

DNO is on this story and will publish any new developments on this matter.

So you mean we are paying more for our gas than people in U.S.A. territory? What was the point of engaging with Venezuela when we have to pay more for ours than motorists in U.S.A., Venezuela’s main customer but still their evil enemy? Can someone explain that for my simple mind please?

I really cannot understand if this country is not up with the times where technology is concerned. How do you all (GAS STATIONS) not know there is going to be a shortage befor time , in order for you all to make provisions for this madness to inconvience people. Like America they are going to raise the prices , you just wait and see..

I was in Dominica 2 or 3yrs ago and the same thing happened. Since then myself and my family haven’t returned to Dominica. We had to bribe the gas station operator $50.00 to buy $50.00 worth of gas. I thought joining ALBA would have made sure that never happen again. Dominica is taking 2 steps forward and 3 steps backwards. I don’t want to hear anything about DLP or UWP they all have the same interest.FULL POCKET. I thought the goal of this govt was attracting tourist.

    • Princess
      February 28, 2012

    • PUSS
      February 28, 2012

Oh please you don’t wanna return then that’s just fine with us $50.00 more gas for another d/can… one unimportant tank less to get filled… If you are not from here then why do you even bother with our political parties and their actions? But the Bible said it best…If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given

Lines at a gas station izent indication there is a gas shortage. Could have been a rumor wicked people created to cause pandemonium in the country. DNO should have contacted the Ministry of Trade, Petro Caribe or any of the other bulk storage companies to find out what the real story is. at 9:45 last night gas was being delivered to a gas station in Newtown, if you ask me that izent indication of a gas shortage
