Gov’t to make funds available for manufacturers

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has expressed the government’s willingness to make funds available to Dominican manufacturers, to help them to address some of the challenges they face.

Speaking after a meeting with Dominican manufacturers at the State House, last week, Skerrit said that these funds would be presented through the Agricultural Industrial and Development (AID) Bank, with an interest rate of three percent (3%).

The meeting was held to discuss the challenges experienced by manufacturers in Dominica, and ways to collaborate with the government.

“What I’ve done also is to indicate to them that the government is prepared to make some funds available to the AID Bank to on-lend to them to address some of the financial challenges which they are experiencing and that we are prepared to set the interest rate at three percent,” he stated.

Skerrit explained that the manufacturers are to meet among themselves, and make specific recommendations to present to the government.

“Once they get back to us, there will be a team from the government who will meet with a representative body of the manufacturers of Dominica,” he said. “Then, we will take the process forward.”

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of targeting niche markets which are available to Dominica.

“I believe there are niche markets, and if we work smart, as manufacturers, and we collaborate more among ourselves, as manufacturers, I believe we can take greater advantage of the niche markets which are available to products and produce which come from Dominica,” Skerrit advised.

Skerrit wakes up and says am let me put some passport money in manufacturing, next day am let me put passport money in DCP, am let me keep some for myself, so mister running the country, the reason why skerrit will fail and Dominica will continue its downward spiral is because Dominicas economy is totally dependent on Government spending. We have lost our economic freedom. Reality is Government produces nothing, Government only consumes, Government must tax to spend and it taxes producers, every dollar Government taxes is a dollar the economy cannot spend on consumption or investment. Too many Dominicans depend on Government for their living.

Manufacturing employs more and requires more investments. cottage businesses have isues and need assistance. the goal is to be able to export. maybe the PM sees that as something important. DCP alone cannot be the focus, granted they employed more. But we cannot live in the past, we have to build new champions. So i suppose this is why he is saying funds are available for manufacturers and that is why he met with the association and its members. How can you begin to fix problems if you do not hear what the people’s problems are? This is a start of private-public sector dialogue.

This is nonsense. If u want manufacturers to grow u need to reduce taxes to lower there cost making them more competitive, only a dunce would give failing business more money. 8)

      Well said my friend!

This is the ploy of a desperate dictator trying to forestall questions of accountability regarding passport sales.

      Ask Dr. Skerrit this question:-

WHERE WILL YOU GET THE MONEY FROM?

If De government refuse to meet with the Dominica manufacturers association I see Bobol.
To target single businesses with no holistic strategy that makes all interested parties feel like there is some structure will lead to a failure.
Targeting krazy coconut for a half million dollars didn’t revive De nightclub. …….they subsequently shut it’s doors. …..no profit no gain.
I just see De government target whitchurch to save their business from closing next thing I hear pizza hut closing by Christmas.
Pizza hut didn’t get favored to resist closure?
You can’t all get your cake and eat it all De time
