Hummingbird Air will be resuming passenger flights to Dominica starting late December this year, President of the airline, Sam Raphael, has said.
He noted that the airline took an internal decision to suspended all passenger flights in order to restructure its operating procedures and make management changes after a recent landing incident in St. Lucia.
“The company is taking time out to retrain our captains and make key personnel changes to better serve the traveling public,” Raphael said.
He expressed his apology to the traveling public for having to suspend flights during the busy Christmas season, however, he feels that the decision was necessary in the long term interest of the company and passenger safety.
He also would like to remind the public that the company still operates cargo and shop-net delivery flights between the US Virgin Islands and Canfield Airport every Monday and Thursday.
Raphael stated that the directors of Hummingbird Air recognizes the importance of air access to Dominica and plans to continue to provide safe and reliable service to the island.
Let me commend Steve forester for his frequent comments,
Sam Raphael should be be PM he is exerting leadership.
Dais in need of air access. Liat reservation personnel are lying when their limited flights to DA are ways booked. Is tHis designed to support the Antgua economy? I was told by liar personel if I want to go to Da I must spend the night in ANU.
I decline the suggestion
Are we aware that the IOC certification from the aviation authority based in Antigua gives LIAT PROTECTION and does not allow licenses for charter services etc which will improve our communication capacities ?
This gives Dominica a challenge and retards the movement of people …..The PM of St Kitts expressed his disgust this week at the OECS HEADS
Good to hear..get all things sorted out because planes and people’s lives are no joke. Hope to see things going well soon.
Sam, I wish you all the best and our safety should be the most important aspect of your airline. Dominicans not the government should do everything possible to elevate and promote that airline. For those of us living where the airline services we know how much we have benefited form its operation. I know it is trying times for you, Sam because you lost your business due to the storm, but better days are coming. There is a rainbow beyond the dark clouds.
People must be laughing at us talking about Hummingbird on a little canefield Airport. What’s wrong with us. Isn’t time for us to get an international Airport. Instead we move forward we are in reverse. It will be to late by the time this government completely destroy and continue to full us before we act. The Caribbean brothers and sisters must be laughing at us while Rosie Douglas Mike Douglas Perro and Euginia Charles must be crying and turning in their grave.
We need more transportation options, period. Sure, an international airport would be one, should it ever happen. But Hummingbird Air operating more flights out of Canefield is another option, and it’s one that is realistic right now.
I’m very glad to hear this. It sounds like they responded to what happened responsibly. The more connections they can offer to medium and long haul flights, the better!
