IDA meets with potential investors in Calibishie

Participants at the meeting

Invest Dominica Authority (IDA) has continued its public awareness initiatives and held its third town hall meeting in Calibishie on December 8, 2011.

The objectives of the town hall meetings are to inform the community of the support and assistance of the IDA, to work with potential and existing investors in the community to identify new investment opportunities, and to assist in translating these opportunities into sustainable business enterprises.

Calibishie is well known for its tourism potential and agricultural capacity and as a result many of the villagers with resources in these sectors were attracted to the meeting. They assisted in providing guidance on a way forward for more economic activity in the village.

In his address to the gathering, Honourable Matthew Walter, Parliamentary Representative of Calibishie advised that, “everyone needs to become more creative and serious in seeking new ways to do business”.  He further advised that as business owners, they must consider the resources of a manager who can guide their business in the right direction.

The meeting was brought to a close with the formation of a “business core group” whose primary role will be to liaise with and seek support from IDA on business initiatives in Calibishie.

You mean to tell me DNO removed my post. I was infact saying that IDA is irrelevant to Calibishie farmers. DNO if u are about educating people, then this is something that u would like them to know. The truth, this is not about politics, this is about real economic development. This is not about playing games and fooling around. Young people are out of school looking for jobs, and we have an agency who is charged to improve the investment climate in Dominica totally incapable of doing so. They go around spreading false hope. When these poor people from Calibishie goes to the office seeking concessions they will then hear for themselves one on one how this just doesn’t help them.

If IDA truly wants to help make a difference they really need to consider addressing issues such as VAT, big one, too many businesses are suffering as a result. Make some proposal IDA, get government to reconsider how they impose taxes on new businesses. We all know what cash flow means to a business that is newly starting off, it means everything…..

What IDA is doing in Calibishie is a waste of time, and Matthew Walter himself doesn’t seem to understand half of the story.

Now go ahead and delete my post DNO.

I do not really know when you people post stories what type of reaction are you hoping to get, people to cheer you on or persons to constructively put your news in perspective. The key here should be educating…..and you all are doing a disservice to Dominicans by deleting information that do not really sit well on your taste buds.

I spoke the truth, the agency is an expensive one to run and we have not seen too much value here for our tax payers dollars. You want to keep this information away from Dominicans, go ahead and do that.

They need to sort out the break ins and robberies and muggings in that area.

Calibishie to Marigot is becoming the crime center of Dominica. Such a pity as it is popular with tourists.

What does it matter?? I’m starting to lose hope. So many of us are still stuck in the “ice age” in Dominica.

People it’s 2011…actually almost 2012. Broaden and sophisticate your minds a little.

Walter’s point about “considering the resources of a manager” is a good one.

Many local business owners attempt to manage the enterprise themselves and this often leads to ruin. The roles of business owner and manager are very distinct.

At the very least, business owners should consult with or seek the advice of their friends or acquaintances who have some management experience.

WHEN IT COMES TO ADVICE,LEAVE OUT FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES OUT OF THIS.THEY ARE THE ONES WHO WILL BE HAPPY TO LEAD YOU TO A DOWNFALL.IN THIS CASE,I SEE THE NEED FOR A PROPERLY TRAINED AND QUALIFIED BUISNESS ADVISOR TO HELP BUISNESS OWNERS.
