IRC Communty Outreach moves to Roseau

Roseau is the next stop for the Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) in its community outreach programme.  The meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the WAWU Headquarters on Hillsborough Street from 6:00 p.m.

The body responsible for regulating the electricity sector in Dominica embarked on an education drive within communities last month.  The meetings are being held to further educate residents about the work of the IRC and their rights as consumers, as well as to get feedback from them about their electricity supply and supplier.

The IRC’s Public/Consumer Relations Manager, Marie-Antoinette Mora, said, “The first meeting was held in Salisbury last month and it was very successful indeed.  Participants were eager to hear about the work of the IRC and the Guaranteed Standards that have been put in place, so we are extending an invitation to all residents of Roseau and environs to come out to the meeting on Wednesday.”

The Electricity Supply Act, No 10 of 2006 established the IRC as the regulator for electricity supply in Dominica and empowers it with the responsibility for regulating prices, service standards and monitoring the performance of service providers of electricity.  The IRC is also a forum for customer appeals in dealings with their electricity provider.
