Local fashion designer to host 2nd major fashion extravangza

Local designer and owner of Finesse Beauty, Kimara Matthew is getting set to host her 2nd major fashion extravaganza dubbed “Creole meets Finesse on the Runway”.

The show is carded for September 10th at the Alliance Français on Elmshall Road from 5:30PM.

“We are planning on showcasing an afrocentric collection and that is going to couple with a few performances in between,” she said during an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO) on Thursday. “We are going to showcase our national wear; however we are going to be showing a variation of designs for every age group, body size and type.”

She continued, “The idea is to show a variation of designs, not just to fit and to compliment your body structure but also to show different generations in different wear, with different personalities

Matthew said the aim of the event is, “to show you can design something cut for you and still complete your features…we can create something that is going to make you feel and look your best.”

According to her plans are underway and everything is set for the show. “Everybody is excited about it,” she noted. “Everything is looking good thus far.”

She stated further that models between the ages of 5 and 60 will form part of the show.

Matthew also revealed that St Martin Primary School is one of the company’s big partners on board since a lot of the younger models attend that learning institution.

She said the show will not only focus on promoting just the fashion designer, but also other young entrepreneurs who have the skills but need a little push.

“Before the show starts we are going to have an exhibit, the exhibit is going to be during the meet and greet period where we are going to showcasing some young entrepreneurs, each will be portraying something different,” She explained.

Matthew has a message for young entrepreneurs, “Do not be dismayed even if it doesn’t seem like something you can see yourself doing in the next 10 years.”

She added, “You might think that it is not very viable, it is viable, you just have to follow your heart, surround yourself with people that are positive and shy away from the negative ones.”

Matthew hosted her first major fashion show called, “All White Affair” on May 30, 2015 at the Fort Young Hotel which she said was “very successful.”

The intention was to raise awareness of fashion and to encourage all to stay beautiful, not just on the outside but on the inside
