Melvina’s Bar back in action

Melvina’s is a popular hangout spot

“Everything is back in progress and I am back on my feet again.”

This is according Melvina Boyer owner of the popular hangout spot, Melvina’s Bar and Restaurant, which was burglarized earlier this month.

She stated that the bar has been repaired at the establishment is back in action.

Boyer said she is still disappointed and “downhearted” over the incident and described the act as “malicious.”

She stated, based on her knowledge, no arrests have been made.

“The police haven’t arrested anybody for that crime,” she said. “What I keep saying, when these things happen you have to help yourself and also try to help the police too.”

The businesswoman stated that none of the stolen items, including expensive drinks, will probably never be retrieved.

“They drank all,” she simply said.

Boyer woke up to the news on January 1s that her business place was burglarized with damages done to the iron gate, doors and camera system.

She said it will cost between $25,000 and $30,000 to totally repair all the damage.

This is where locals in the roseau area love to be. Will leave the air condition and upscale facility of Koconuts every friday and saturday night to go and stand up along side the road to drink rum and watch ride pass. Thats how dominicans enjoy themselves. “Never mind the nice outfit and effort to look good, jus wash your foot and come, by Melvina all of us going.” I could never understand that. This is the highlight of our night life here in Dominica.

Do u think that the police are super human beings? All they can work on, is the information they receive from u and me, then without the none forthcoming of these information, how are they going to make any arrest?

Nonsense, The police are lazy. My boy got his house broken into while he was sleeping and his electronics were stolen, ipad and iphone etc,. He told the police exactly who to look for and question, to this day – nothing. They didnt even get off their behinds to make their rounds on the block the person hangs out on, they just took the report and said we’ll call you.

Friends, lets look at the clientele within the community she serves. If all the advices are taken, then could she stand to lose a very large percentage of her customers? What would be next, who would she sell to? We must be as wise as a serpent, but as harmless as a dove. People, please be judicious and inculcate some business wisdom in your advices. Ma’am, please be wise in your business dealings, and take precaution to protect your place while at the same time not alienating the local folks.

I wish Melvina well, she is a very hard working lady but I am also worried about the location of her place, so close to traffic on the main road. That should be more solidly built and how about toilet facilities. Is there even a septic tank or does the waste and sewage simply run don the slope into the sea. What I’m talking is hygiene. I think she should upgrade her place and make it more secure. Good luck.

My advise to you as a patron. install security cameras, have a police presence at your place during the week ends. {Specials as we call it.} off duty corps, fence up the surroundings, insist on a dress code, store yoyr drinks in a containner during off days. Call the police to inspect your premises with a view to better securing your premises. You will be better off in the end and the quality of who patronize your place will all worth it in the end. To be cheap is to pay the price. A steaching time saves lives. Free advise from your number one fan. If you fail to implement some or all of them, they will pray on you again. Good luck going forward.

Did you mean, a stitch in time saves nine?

      January 22, 2015

Cameras maybe but you really expect someone to have to transfer all their drinks from their bar to a container every time they off? And where she putting it? If you’re a patron you can see there is no space for a container. Where she putting it? In the sea? The bar is hanging over a cliff and over the sea. Maybe if she goes on holiday, but for 1 day of the year, because its a holiday? And police presence over the weekend? The thieves strike once there is closed, so dress code has nothing to do with that. Give ideas, but good ones please.
