DALLAS – MoneyGram, a global provider of money transfer and payment services, is offering reduced fees for all transactions from 26 countries* to Dominica to aid in the recovery from Tropical Storm Erika.
Beginning today, fees for sending to Dominica have been lowered to one local currency unit per send for any amount up to $10,000 through the end of September for consumers in the U.S.,UK, Canada and the Caribbean*. In addition to the transfer fee, a currency exchange rate applies. The reduced fees are available at all MoneyGram agent locations and online at www.MoneyGram.com.
“While the storm is over, the people of Dominica will continue to feel the effects of Erika for months to come, and we feel that it is our duty to provide relief during this time of need,” said Pete Ohser, MoneyGram’s executive vice president business development. “The entire MoneyGram family is committed to helping the island return to a sense of normalcy, and it is our hope that these reduced transfer rates and future education grants will contribute to the overall efforts in helping to restore the island’s infrastructure and way of life.”
Thousands of people remain homeless in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika, which has set the country back two decades according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
The MoneyGram Foundation will also assist in the rebuilding of schools and other educational resources for those communities devastated by the storm. Focused on education, the foundation has rebuilt schools and provided much needed educational resources in areas around the world affected by natural disasters over the past two years.

moneygram is bs… cost me a fortune to send $ there this week. why aren’t all countries at discounted fees? maybe I would have sent more but when they rob so much? 4% to send is worse than money launders. WHY DON’T THE OWNERS OF MONEYGRAM IN DOMINICA WAIVE ALL FEES EXCEPT FOR COSTS? DOESN’T NASSIEF OWN MONOGRAM?
Be nice and thank money gram. Better late than never. I paid only 1.00 to send money to da and i frighten. I had to ask the clerk, are you sure that’s the fee? Since i usually pay $10.00. Then i said oh, it must be some special pricing because of the storm (:
Great and thank u m/gram. Western union courtesy in relation to such ended on the 8th Sept.
They should have done this 3 weeks ago.
Money Gram too late! Western Union is not charging any fees. I just sent funds to DA… though they do not allow you to use a card to send the funds, you must use your bank account which can take 3 to 5 business days.
Free-ness is worry-ness. People have made several trips to Western Union and were all greeted with “we don’t have more cash”. While we welcome the incentive, the inconvenience for money which was sent for free was a problem. some persons have not gotten their cash even after a week after their family sent it.
western union had a one week special sept 2 to sept 8
And why western want bank acct? Bwavo..
