Nature Island Paper Products Incorporated (NIPP Inc) will observe its fourth year of operations with an Open House to give its customers a greater understanding of its manufacturing process and to educate the public about a product which everyone uses but, ironically, knows very little about.

Nature Island Paper Products Incorporated (NIPP Inc) started operations in shed number 5 of the Canefield Industrial Estate on 31st August 2014 with the production of two brands of toilet tissue, Emerald Touch and Falls Soft. It also produces paper towels, Serviete Dominique, on a smaller scale.

NIPP Inc prides itself of having one of the best quality tissue products on the Dominican market and consumer response has been positive.

During the last year it successfully exported a consignment of products to one of the sister OECS Islands and ROSS University has been one of its most reliable
customers from inception in 2010. Also, NIPP Inc. has successfully negotiated a distributorship arrangement with O.D. Brisbane and Sons Ltd which gave that company exclusive rights to market and distribute the products on the local market.

From May 2013 to the present, NIPP Inc has been working assiduously to penetrate the lucrative Venezuelan Market where an acute shortage of toilet paper in that country warranted the government of Venezuela to purchase 50 million rolls of toilet tissue on the international market.

Since the commencement of operations of Nature Island Paper Products Incorporated (NIPP Inc) in 2010, the company has made a significant contribution to the Dominican economy by reducing the flight of foreign exchange for toilet tissue by 60%, creating sustainable employment for 15 persons and maintaining a stable price for toilet tissue without an increase over the last four years.

In its fifth year of operations NIPP Inc intends to accelerate the process of divesting the company to broaden its ownership base and to expand into the production of other paper products.

NIPP Inc extends its gratitude and appreciation to all its customers, its distributors, financiers for their support and understanding over the last four years.

As we enter into our fifth year of operations we remain resolute in our quest for success and it is for this reason that we launch our House to Housecampaign which is aimed at getting our products in every home, as well as, into all other business, commercial, educational and social institutions in Dominica.

We therefore implore on Dominican consumers to support Nature Island Paper Products Incorporated (NIPP Inc.) as we help create employment for our people, reduce the unsustainable trade imbalance and grow our economy with one roll of toilet tissue at a time.

The public is therefore invited to visit the plant during the OPEN DAY from 9:00 a.m. on Friday 29th.

Congratulations and good wishes for continued success. Hope you will be changing the mind set that local products can be just as good or even better than imports. To do that you need a very aggressive promotion and marketing offence. You need attractive and irresistible packaging. You need to set up quality control and feedback to make a product that is of the highest quality at the best price. Do not depend on the sympathy of customers. What really attract them is Quality, Price and Good Customers service and relations. Since this is an infant industry, you have to babysit it constancely, do not assume the workers will always be efficient and will always be doing a good job. Their loyalty is to their pay checks.
Paper products have a lot of expansion potential but for you to enjoy economy of scale you have to export.
We have preferential advantages in the Eastern Caribbean group because Edward Leblance chose paper products as “EXCLUSIVE !” exclusive manufactured goods for Dominica when the agreement was signed.
We also have access to the European market because of the EEC and our close relationship with England and France, as an independent country. Our relations with France will make the markets of Guadeloupe and Martinique even more profitable. And we have Carifta. The head of Carifta is Dominican. We have to exploit every advantage because of foreign competition.
To expand you need capital, so why not offer the government a partnership. They can participate directly or help by guaranting bank loans . Or even go public and convince the government to buy shares as an investment. The example of this is Fort Hotel Co in which Government has preferential shares as negotiated by J B Charles and E O LeBlance . Coconut Industries at Belfast before it was sold, and J A Astaphan are other examples of local companes.
You can also get technical assistance from countries like Canada and China for personel and equiptment and technology.
Set a goal a high goal for employing 1000 people. I am not saying this is easy, but it is well know that paper products are expandable. We use them every day and some like toilet paper cannot be reused or recycled.
You may also want to look at the availability of raw materials. I believe cardboard can be made from bamboo, banana trees and mahaut and other type of banana like trees, and recycling paper products. China assistance would be great, a good way to go.
As for transportation, I would suggest air freight. Free aircraft can be negotiated with China, Japan and Brazil.
I wish I was available for more direct, and financial contribution, unfortunately I am not and cannot be.

It tends to chaff once or twice, but I still support it! Try making a version with aloe.
