Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Minister of Finance has advised the local community to continue to display fiscal restraints and responsibility as he presented a $440.3 million Budget this morning.

In outlining his administrations’ plans for the 2010/2011 fiscal year, PM Skerrit announced that no new taxes will be imposed on the populace.

“In the meantime, we will continue to implore all residents to  Dominica is not out of the woods as far as economic challenges are concerned. We cannot play fast and loose with the resources of this country,” he said, at the Fifth Meeting of the First Session of the Eighth Parliament at the House of Assembly, where he sought Parliamentary approval for Estimates of Expenditure for the financial year ending June 30, 2011 amounting to EC$440,307,922.

“Our three-year Tax Reform Programme is all but complete. We will now have to access how the economy is responding to those measures. We have proposed however to pursue greater efficiencies in the areas of tax and revenue collections as well as minimizing of wastage and enhance output and productivity,” Hon. Skerrit explained.

According to him, during the course of this fiscal year, government will also examine the report on the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Monetary Council Appointed Tax Reform Commission.

He said if during the course of this year, there is a need to review and revise benefits and lines of assistance to special interest groups government will do so.

House Speaker Alix Boyd-Knights adjourned the House for tomorrow where the Budget debate will continue.

The United Workers Party (UWP) has decided to further boycott Parliament and not attend the Budget debate.

@ Marigot: Get your facts before you call others fool. How can D/A’s budget be “bigger than the US”? The 2010 US budget is 3.6 trillion dollars. That is, three trillion plus 600 billion. D/A’s budget is four hundred and forty million, three hundred and seven thousand, nine hundred and twenty two. It takes more words to describe it, but it’s not even worth half of one billion. We do not have to multiply by the exchange rate to determine how large the US budget is, in comparism to D/A’s.

You claim things are so nice in Dominica why are so of the bank accounts for various government accounts in an overdraft? etc etc I will stop here.

Tell the nation what the IMF told you to do Mr PM TELL us why was it ommitted in ur budget?

We all know that members of parliament are to be informed of the seating of the house a few days before; didnt he know that he was going to have the budget debate to put the by elections earlier so that every thing would be in other and then the opposition would be given early notice of the budget debate in the house. Both Skerro and the cwapo playin dirty man. and then makin it look like is UWP that bad. Common. when he finish he sayin he dont want a one party state when all his ACTIONS and that of MISSY BOYD is to have a one party state. Eddie you all did right late invitations are for DOGS. Further more its about time you all’s issues are addressed its like what you all say doesnt matter for those business minded people isnt that a form of AUTOCRATIC Leadership on behalf of the PM and his 23 coherts..

We all know that out there some negative peoples will always be negatives no matter what was introduces as long it’s not their political party, the sad part they all think alike good or bad they oppose
So lets’ leave the bitter and disgruntled opposers and their leader do what they love to do, the other 18 more constituencies needs improving

The low level of intelligence across this country is once again being displayed. The UWP has said way before any vacating of seats that it is and will always be their intention to attend parliament. They specifically stated under what conditions and circumstances, but did not give any specific date or seating in which to expect them. When they won the bi-elections on Friday, they repeated again that it was and is still their intention to attend parliament. They never said it was their intention to attend parliament “on tuesday”. English and common sense is lacking across this country.

Yesterday at mid-morning, notices for parliament session was sent to the elected members, when the LAW says that they should be given 2-3 days notice and NOT less than 24 hours.

That is why Dominica aint going anywhere anytime soon. We have people in high office breaking laws and we have citizens who do not see it fit to call on them to obey the laws, simply because of the blind support to their party.

I will hear about allu in due time…

Good news, that should help most people in these hard times. As a leader, you can never please all of the people all of the times you do things. There will always be those who are specialized in finding fault in whatever you do.

And there are those who follow blindly.
