No price increase for Marpin East Coast residents until further notice

Marpin’s  40 percent price increase will not apply to customers on the East Coast, Chief Financial Officer Calvin Patrick has said.

Patrick told a recent radio broadcast that Marpin2k4’s service on that side of the island is not 100 percent complete.

“The rest of the engineering (the work that has to be done) to bring those customers on the East Coast up to ‘two-way transmission’ is still in progress. When that is done the price will be in effect on the East Coast,” Patrick explained.

He was at the time addressing questions from the public with regarding Marpin2k4’s decision to hike its prices.

The CFO did not provide a time line as to when orks will be completed.

How could the goodly Marpin increase the price of Rice on the East Coast. Marpin and so many things are problematic on the east coast and the entire south east. Sooon one might hear that the sun no longer shine on this side of Dominica again. Just look around and you will seee. Everything is always taking a life time to come on the east side. Thank God for mamo en who brought electricity, water, and goood roads . She also made sure that the east side has good enough schools and a good feeding program. Uwp constructed a nice school for the east folks and that to was a good move…. Marpin brouhgt cable by to any sensible person dats more rice or should it be called pet rice,,,,,,,,, Marpin and all the other utlilty companies neeed to come good in the east side- a kind of forgot part of the Domiinca …………………………….. subjected to corection if one may. I verily beleive that come much more sensible person with the full use of the cerebral might rid the writer of his ignorance or pardon him for his memory loss………………………………………. then suggest some ginko

I’m just a little worried about that hike in price. I know that there needs to be a profit margin for the company, but a 40% increase? Isn’t that a bit much? Wouldn’t a gradual increase over a set period of time been more appropriate? Are the locals going to be able to pay for this? What about the people on fixed incomes?
I’m all for progress and development, but I’m just concerned about how MOST people are going to pay for this. I’d hate to see people having to choose between the neccessities of life and cable television. Remember, this is still DA, and there are still alot of people living WAAAAAY below the poverty level.
Still a fan though; just some food for thought.
