A decision may be taken in due course on the need for a small business act for Dominica
The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Commerce and Diaspora Affairs has discussed intentions to meet stakeholders of the small business sector to settle the matter, government senator Alvin Bernard has revealed.
“For a number of years, there has been a debate on whether there is a need for such an act. The argument has been made that the existing fiscal incentives act is adequate for small businesses; the view has also been advanced that what is needed is a clear policy framework governing the operations of the sector,” Bernard said.
He has described the matter as a concern for those involved in small business development and said it must be “put to rest”.
According to him, there’s been a request for the Ministry of Trade to coordinate meetings with “relevant stakeholders, so as to bring this matter to conclusion”.
You would first need to know and define a small business in the context of Dominica and the rest of the OECS. Further to that a small business act should have been done years ago. Contemplating is too little too late!
I hope a suitable and practical climate is created for small business enterpreneurs.
……………………..Small business need help in DA……………………………….
The small business incentives for Dominican small business are NOT adequate!! More should be done but certain people just lack the vision as to how we can improve small business thus employment in DA!!
There isn’t much incentive for doing a small business in DA, especially with all of the duties, VAT, and taxes. That is, except if you are chinese.
More numerous the LAWS more Corrupt the State!
