Prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, and minister of information and telecommunication and constituency empowerment, Ambrose George, have been confirmed as speakers to address the Global Citizen Forum in Canada.
The forum is expected to take place on October 2 and 3 in Toronto.
On its website the Global Citizen Forum has listed a number of other confirmed speakers from the Caribbean including Gaston Browne, Denzil Douglas and Keith Mitchell, prime ministers of Antigua, St. Kitts and Grenada respectively.
A number of government leaders and representatives from around the world are also expected to address the forum.
The website said the speakers will “deliver special announcements and legislation updates to their residency and citizenship programs.”
It said the forum is “an annual conference designed to educate, promote and empower global citizenship.”
Financial representatives, immigration and tax advisors, due diligence experts, global real estate developers, high net worth individuals, investors, business leaders and philanthropists are expected to attend the forum to “further develop the concept of global citizenship,” according to the forum’s website.
Dominica has a citizenship program which was recently expanded to target investors who prefer fixed investments such as real estate, and/or a local address.

Under heading “2013”, sub. “testimonials” there is a photograph of- and a quotation by our our High Commissioner in London, H.E. Francine Baron, who attended this event.
I am curious as to what her involvement is with the sale of our citizenships in the Middle East, given that her prime responsibility is to represent Dominica both in the U.K. and the E.U. and the U.N. agencies in Geneva.
Will she also be present at the second forum in Toronto this year?

Nothing more brothers and sisters, but a trip to market the sale of our passports, A few, not the people continue to be the beneficiaries of those sales.
We all thought the so-called Economic Citizenship programme was about investment by those foreigners who bought our passports? Where are the investments, but huge amounts were collected. A few are making millions in that sale of our passports. Who have office in Dubai selling passports?
Now Citizen- by-investment programme? Same thing, selling passports left, right and centre. Transparency, accountability thrown out of the window.
All kinds of mafia, fraudists,, corrupt individuals, have been found to possess our diplomatic and ordinary passports. Dominicans in the dark, until revelations come out.
Where’s the Layou River 5-Star Hotel to be built from the sale of our passports? Business falling down, closing. where are the business and all what they fooled us about?
How many times should Dominicans be fooled and allow themselves to be fooled by those only bent on enriching themselves and by dubious means?
Remember money-laundering fiasco and bogus bank in New York (still cannot be found), and firing of Minister, and counterfeit US $$$$$$$$$$ sent to innocent Dominican students in Cuba? No investigation. No case. No charges.
Remember all those who have problems with the Law and questionable dealings with our passports? who in jail, in jail overseas.
What about Chen’s $50 + million for investment into Layou River Hotel?
But where all that money for the sale of our ordinary and diplomatic passports gone, nuh?

We had to learn about Mr.Skerrit’s and Mr. George’s participation in this Forum from DNO – thank you DNO. However, we do have a Government Information Service, GIS, which, if it did its work properly would inform the public about such plans ahead of time, not just as a matter of courtesy but to avoid wild guesses and speculation as to the whereabouts of our P.M., the purposes of visits and his intentions. The current state of affairs makes one wonder if the Government Information Service itself is always informed of such plans, and if yes, if they are permitted to disseminate such news either in a press release or a simple bulletin. It is not only unprofessional no to do so but also discourteous and disrespectful to the people who elected you to represent them at all times.

You are right, this does, not come cheap. The forum is at the 5-star, Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Toronto.
I don’t know what their room rate is (I tried to make a reservation but they are fully booked for these dates). However, the average room rate for a 5-star hotel in Toronto is Can.$.491/night, approx. E.C.$.1,208 – compare that with the min. wage in Dominica of E.C.4.05/hr.
