Public officers to get two months salary bonus

Letang said only DPSU members will receive the bonus

Hundreds of Public Officers on island who are members of the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) will be receiving a salary bonus which is equivalent to two months’ salary at the end of this month.

That information was revealed by General Secretary of the DPSU, Thomas Letang in an interview with state-owned DBS Radio.

“Last week I had some discussions with the CPO [Chief Personnel Officer) who assured me that the bonus, which is equivalent to two month’s salary, will be paid at the end of this month,” he stated.

Recently the DPSU and the government reached an agreement on salary negotiations for the 2015-2018 triennium. Among the agreements reached was a three percent salary increase which will take effect for the fiscal year 2017/2018 on July 1st 2017 which, according to Letang, means that these public officers are “owed two months back pay already that is retroactive.”

Letang said the CPO, Gloria Joseph, wanted to find out from the DPSU whether it was okay that the retroactive (the 3 percent) for the final year “whether it was okay to pay at the end of October since they would not have enough time to process payments.”

“It’s a lot of work that needed to be done, so we told her that it was okay, but we agreed that public officers will be paid the two months at the end of this month equivalent of two months,” he explained.

Letang pointed out that only public officers who belong to the DPSU will receive the bonus

“My understanding is that all members of the DPSU will be paid,” he explained. “If you belong to another union and that union has not closed off on negotiations, the members will not be paid. We just want to say to members of the public that once you are a member of the DPSU you will be paid.”

Letang explained that a public officer who is receiving a salary of $3,000 at the end of this month, will see on their payment slip will be the normal salary plus another $6000.

“So somebody getting $3000 will go home with $9000,” he noted. “We have to bear in mind that the $6,000 or whatever the two months works out to that they will not be paying income tax on that.”

Letang pointed out that public officers are very happy and pleased with the negotiations.

Mrs Celia Nicholas, right at this moment every ounce of blood in my body is regretting joining the DAT! Why are teachers not getting their bonuses as well? What better arrangement are you planning on bringing to your members?! Why are you not having a meeting to share these arrangements and allow us to share our sentiments concerning them? The PSU had a series of meeting informing members of the negotiation process, DAT is yet to inform its members what is being offered. All I know is that I would very much like my bonus and 3% salary increase. I doubt that the government will accept any other that is supposed to be better or higher. It was already difficult for them to agree to this one. Come on, Mrs Nicholas!!!!

I know I am not the top mathematics student but I don’t know how 3% increase over 3 years results in 300% salary.

Let’s look at an example if you earned $2,000 monthly in 2015. In 2017, your salary should be $2.121 with a 3% increase for the three years. How do you go home with $6000?

LIKE I said, I may be wrong, so I am subject to correction.

    Monthly
    2015 2016 2017
    2000 2060 2121.8
    0.03 0.03 0.03
    60 61.8 63.654

    Annually
    24000 24720 25461.6 26225.448
    0.03 0.03 0.03 0.03
    720 741.6 763.848 786.76344

gasa if you salary increase by 121 you have to multiply it by 12(12 months) and then by 3( 3 years) . that is basic maths . smh

      • really
        September 16, 2017

and then you add it to your salary u suppose to get . so thats 4356 + 2121

    • clueless
      September 16, 2017

You are probably good at mathematics but you either didn’t take your time to read or you cant understand what you read. It is two months salary tax-free. BONUS, not increment or back pay.

Isn’t something wrong with this mathematics? If the salary agreement is retroactive, should it not be the 3% difference between the old salary scale and the new salary scale that is owed and needs to be paid?

Continuation: Those who believe and those who don’t even believe, there is a formula. See when it rains, it falls on the just and the unjust because Jesus loves us all but he hates our sins. God wants to bless everyone but when we disobey his commands we tie his hands. he is a just God who leads by example. This is why he said that heaven and earth shall pass but he word will remain.
When we receive our first fruits, we must first determine how much is giving generously. The bible makes mention of the poor, the widow, orphans….. and service to him (hid kingdom). Some speak of 10% of earnings spoken in Malachai 3:10-18, but i recommend that you search the word yourselves.
the idea is that when you honor him from your heart he will eventually honor you. Open hands to give results in open hands to receive. God never forgets his promises.
You can rant and rave but it must hurt in order to be genuine.
    It’s your choice.
    Glory and praise to God.

Isn’t it nice to receive money which you deserve? Money which you worked for? In a time of crisis where relatives and friends have been helping us and now we can stretch a little and reach out to them. Some countries that looked down on us can now look up to us! So too Jesus paid every price for us and expects us to use the full value when we simply accept him and follow his commandments. The Holy Spirit will take full control in time once we surrender.
Some of us could have been dead today but because of his mercies we are alive. Who then gives us strength, breath, life, courage, favor…. all because he is a merciful God. He allows us to have a salary, and for those who believe, all he is asking as a means of honor and commitment is a percentage of your first fruits which will come from your heart. Some have crops, some have time, some earn money…. Some say that pastors and priests get the money but look at where and why you sow that seed. I am not a pastor.
    Here’s how it…
