Calypso lovers have been given the assurance that despite the cancellation of carnival 2021, “the show will go.”
This, as the President of the Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) , Davidson ‘Observer’ Victor, has said that the association is still finalizing their way forward but gave the assurance that there will be some semblance of calypso in 2021.
Speaking to Dominica News Online, (DNO), he said with two options presented to them, the association is weighing both with a view to please not only the calypso fanatics but members of the DCA as well.
“We are trying to work on something virtual. We are thinking of a competition and we are also thinking of a show, but it all has to do with what members of the association decide. Some are for show and some are for a competition,” he stated.
In the scaled down event, the DCA President revealed, option one is to hold a competition with only the semi-finals and the finals on January 30 and February 13, respectively whilst option two will only be a virtual show but none will include an elimination round.
“We had already decided on the competition but some of the members were not for it so that’s when the idea of only a show came in place. If we have the competition, it is supposed to be driven highly by sponsorship and we will be meeting some of our sponsors by the end this week,” Victor disclosed. “So let’s say by the 5th of January we will have a clearer idea of exactly what we will be doing and we will inform the public.”
Despite changes in the way in which the event will be held, Victor is encouraging calypsonians and calypso lovers to get prepared for the upcoming virtual season.
First of all DNO its disrespectful to the reigning King that this is the picture that you choose to highlight, i am most certain you could have gone to on The Calypso Association page and get a photo of our king JayDee.
Secondly to the president Observer very poor move, we should not have to wait till January for you to have answers to questions that will definitely arise, you knew covid 19 was there from the get go therefore you all should have been more than prepared, are the calypsonians going to get paid the amount of money they use to record their songs, times are different sir, you need to come better than that, everybody is having virtual shows just to please their fans, but for some reason you want a competition, what are you up to sir
Jees not calypso again. It’s time we give dat ting our own BEAT. Keep the same songs but give it a Bouyon beat or Cadence beat, fast & slow. Respect Tnt leave their beat for them. It’s not that we’re di not have our own and we still have to borrow a BEAT from Trinidad. Out with the old, in with the new; integrate this with the Cadence Lypso competition, after all.
What we gonna have next a Reggae competition?
I could cry!!! Corona you real mess up boy!
