CARICOM united on peaceful resolution of Venezuela crisis

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) remains united in its desire for a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Venezuela.

Underscoring that point, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia the Honourable Allen Chastanet said despite the differences on certain aspects of the issue, the Community’s guiding principles were supported by all Member States.

These principles which the Community reiterated in a statement on the situation in Venezuela issued on Friday are non-interference and non-intervention in the affairs of states, prohibition of threat or use of force, respect for sovereignty, the constitutional framework, human rights and democracy and adherence to the rule of law.

Prime Minister Chastanet was speaking at a press conference following a Special Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM on Security, held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on Friday.

His view was supported by the host Prime Minister Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley, who stated that regardless to which group individual countries were aligned, the interests of CARICOM remained central to their approach.

Speaking on the issue of the regulation of cannabis, the Prime Minister of Barbados the Honourable Mia Mottley stated the Community had the benefit of the recommendations of the report produced by the CARICOM Commission on Marijuana. While each country would be dealing with the issue according to its own national realities, Prime Minister Mottley said there was need for model legislation to guide the process.

CARICOM Chairman Dr the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, indicated that his country was moving forward with legislation on the issue  and cited the Jamaican example as providing guidance for the way forward.

“The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) remains united in its desire for a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Venezuela. ”

You all can sit there for as long as you wish, you can fasten yourselves to your seat with the most effective covalent bond while you talk, that will not produce anything!

CARICOM by any other name means a bunch of waste of time useless politicians from the islands of the Caribbean; from Guyana in the South to Jamaica in the North.

The waste of time bunch can talk and crow like roosters, as much as they wish; beat their chest as King Kong or all the gorillas on the contentment of Africa, and South East Asia; you all cannot change anything taking place in Venezuela!

Your voices are not heard; you are powerless to do anything in resolving the issue in Venezuela which can only be resolve by repeating in unison.”Down with dictatorship; Maduro must go!

Any other resolve would be criminal.

Someone should carry go CARICOM. when these blind leaders have nothing to say, can someone tell them to shut up? by saying” caricom united on a peaceful resolution to the Venezuela crisis” you have said nothing. Can you suggest a way forward, what do you think of the health crisis and the starvation because of the dictator, Do you think leaders should steal elections? please say something meaningful instead of this gibberish.

CARICOM has said absolutely nothing regarding the refusal by the Skerritt DLP Govt to implement electoral reforms. Dominicans have been pleading for years for reforms to include a complete Re-registration of electors done in Dominica, the bloated Voters’ list to be cleaned, issuing of Voter ID Cards and Campaign finance laws.

A top Gov’t official claims that DA does no need electoral reforms. he further incites people to disobey the electoral Laws, telling people publicly, once your name is on the voters’ list, you could come down to vote. Deliberate LIE. What about residency issue? Such statements are irresponsible and could be the cause for all kinds of problems and illegalities.

So we knew all along who is blocking any reform to the electoral process. The Electoral Commission has many questions to answer, why no VERIFICATION exercise, as promised since July 2018? Sorry no Electoral Reform, it’s dictatorship. Expect no FREE and FAIR elections. Mark my words.

CARICOM what do you all have to say about another CARICOM nationals, Haitians paying 400USD deposit to the Dominica GOVT to enter the country?

CARICOM what are you saying about human trafficking in Dominica of the Haitians while the GOVT is silent on the matter while they drown in our waters?

Is the DA GOVT looking the other way while the trafficking has been going on for the last 5years and not ONE boat is caught by our Police authorities??…How convenient!!!!!!

  5. Wait Nou
    May 7, 2019

But wait a minute nou. How long since CARICOM has been in existing nou? When did the crisis in Venezuela start nou? So they waited all those years doing nothing and only now they want to talk peace? If they are serious I suggest to them to visit Da and try to bring peace here before things really start to get ugly. Skerrit has destroyed Da in his 15 years as PM and Dominicans are ready to kick his donkey out. But he is not going to out like that and therefore we know he is going to do everything to guard his wealth, including civil war as he has already indicated with his “blood of the country will be on your hands, if you vote UWP and Lennox Linton” speech.
Also, if CARICOM is to be trusted they need to get with Skerrit and find out if he knows about the thousands of Haitians that are coming here in an organized way and many of them going to Guadeloupe/ Martinique through organized backdoor and many are perishing at sea and no one is saying a thing. So CARICOM needs to answer…

Big deal, everybody wants a peaceful resolution. But apart from talking what are we, Caricom, doing concretely to achieve that? Have we sent any food or medication for the suffering poor in Venezuela? Has any Caricom member sent donation to organisation like Red Cross , if they dont want to get involved directly themselves? Venezuela helped us so much and lwe ,can not do anything in return but talk? A bunch of Pontius Pilate we are.

Does anyone actually care what CARICOM thinks, given that it is little more than a failed experiment?

What is Caricom waiting on to issue a strong statement asking lazy Skerrit that he should not act as a roadblock to prevent the Dominican electorate from having electoral reform before they go to the polls?
If the situation escalates, will Caricom not be complicit in the situation?
Sets of hypocrites!! What are you all saying about Russia’s intervention? And what can you all do anyway!!
    Skerrit Must Go
    Skerrit Must Go
    Lazy Skerrit Must Go Now

But Skerrit does not have a voice in anything that has to do with Venezuela man? Why is he so silent on Venezuela? He must be scared of something especially something that has to do with money laundering and the fact that Venezuela went to the UN to announce they forgave Dominica secret debt of over one hundred million US dollars. Who knows how many more millions that might have exchanged hands between those two most corrupt leaders the Caribbean has ever seen

The only peaceful solution is for Maduro to go. He has shown abundantly that he is incapable of leading his country and he stole the election. He is corrupt and has lined his pocket at the country’s expense. The people don’t want him and in my opinion he should do the honourable thing an resign. By the way, there are some clear parallels with Skerrits regime in Dominica. Caricom would to well to condemn these despots and show no tolerance in any shape or form towards them.

With all this CARICOM talk. I think our Caribbean Leaders has lost the meaning of where we are heading and where we want to be. There is more devisiveness within our Regions. On less we can see ourselves as one. We can’t get anywhere.
