Carnival Cruiseline to assist with cruise village says Skerrit

PM Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that Carnival Cruiseline plans to assist with the construction of a new cruise village at Woodbridge Bay.

Skerrit revealed that he is in discussion with various cruise lines to formulate a plan for this venture.

The prime minister stated that the plan will be accompanied by new legislation and practices, and should greatly increase cruise arrivals in Dominica.

“I have sat down with the owner of Carnival and the other cruise lines in Florida. I try to go down there every two years to sit with them and to discuss with them what are the concerns they have and how they think we can improve, what are their suggestions, and so forth,” he explained. “And we’re working with them on a plan for the construction of the new cruise village, where in the medium-term we can take our cruise arrivals to 600,000 and a long-term plan would take our cruise arrivals to 1-million. That plan will unveil very soon. That will include legislation, it will include our new paradigm of how we should operate around the coastlines.”

Skerrit urged numerous stakeholders in the industry to become involved in this initiative, as he believes it to be profitable.

“They way we are running now, we are not making half as much money as we could be making if we were better organized, and I’m working with the cruise lines to develop that plan which we will share with the stakeholders…,” he divulged. “I can assure the stakeholders that they will be making much more money than they’re making now if they buy in to this plan…”

Earlier this year, Tourism Minister, Robert Tonge stated that over $6-million dollars had been invested by the government into readying Dominica’s tourist attraction sites and the city of Roseau.

It was said that approximately 300,000 cruise passengers are expected from the 189 cruise ship calls expected for the 2018/2019 season.

This for me sounds very devious and worrying. I just do not believe in that statement, much less to believe and Skerrit.
If I first heard that The Minister of Tourist (maybe traveling about Domininca villages looking fr tourism) was doing some research and marketing into the promotion of our failed, clueless so called tourism industry, I would believe it as a well planned intit9ativ , but we don’t trust Skerrit on this so called events. It appears Skerrit wanted to travel and I bet you that He went via New York, to do what…? Well, you all go ask him and also find out what was the per diem (cost) that is travel fees that the struggling state paid for this reckless journey. Skerrit is desperate.Must…

The only thing that Skerrit has done for Dominica in his eighteen years of misrule is to tarnish the country’s once good name locally, regionally and internationally. Dominica is now infamous for its close relationships with the WORST dictatorial countries in the world. Its name is synonymous with mendicancy and the leader and his subservient disciples with corruption of the highest degree. It’s now a country where truth is frowned upon and lies, dishonesty and deceit are glorified. It’s a country heading down a slippery slope destined to economic and social ruination. Sad but true.

Yes thank you, its about time.
Dominicans are so obsessed and in turmoil with backward destructive politics they don’t see the opportunities before them. there is so much opportunity there but they all want fast money and think profit is a paycheck.
so someone else has to come in and do it. let them see other people come into the island and take the opportunities they’re to lazy mentally to work on.
you have to to WORK for it, stop being crabs in a bucket, the only political party keeping allu down is the one allu have in your head.
Alot of people in DA think Dominica is America and actually have the audacity to compare one with the other when they give their opinions, thats when you know someone has no clue, they get their knowledge from TV and think it’s all real.

NO more agriculture, no more factories, no more Ross, nor Kabuli, no more Hucksters, no more development no more decent government, no mature Prime Ministers, with some level of foresight, guess this Pm is very blind.

Assuming – just assuming – it happens. is Woodbridge Bay the best location and is a “Cruise Village” in the best long term interest of Dominica?

As I understand it, Dominica projects itself as the “Nature Island of the Caribbean” not the “Duty Free Island of the Caribbean”. Prostituting ourselves to the whim of the cruise ship visitor/companies is not the solution.

Our potential is that of a niche destination where one can escape from the lowest common denominator.

HAHAHAH Wait cruise lines helping to build Port faciliteis that will make OUR people MORE money? Is this a comedy routine?
Cruise lines will only invest in places where they can make more money and therefore recoup their investment. So after they build a village the profits and businesses will be from Carnival. They are not here to HELP Dominic they are here to make money. They make an average of US$4 billion each year? LOLOLOL Cant hey really fool our politicians this easily or is this just empty promises

    PM Skerrit

“Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that Carnival Cruiseline plans to assist with the construction of a new cruise village at Woodbridge Bay.”

Could this be true; is there any truth in that?

I wonder if Roosevelt is on a high; tripping on some sort of substance causing him to hallucinate? Why would a private company with no ties, or personal interest in a country decide to assist in the building, or construction of a cruse village.

How many cruse lines out of America, anybody ever heard love a country so much that they take their company money and erect buildings to house shopping facilities; and accommodating games, and forms of entertainment, restaurants ect?

Woodbridge is in Portsmouth right? Before you know it he is going to tell Dominicans, that Carnival Cruise Line is going to turn Ross Campus into a cruse Village.

Simply an election lie! Children learn from their parents, I hope Roosevelt children do not become liars like him!

Skerrit has openly admitted that cruise tourism in Dominica for the last eighteen (18) years has been a colossal failure. This is no surprise to rational thinking citizens for everything since his ascendancy to the pinnacle of power has been nothing but an abysmal failure. Only with a vibrant economy can Dominica pull itself out of this present pitch black, deep, financial sinkhole. When was the last time one heard the PM pontificated on the state of the economy?
DNO, can you verify and publicize the unemployment rate and poverty level of Dominica?
When unemployment and the poverty level of a country are low, these are two good indicators of how well the country is progressing. Having to constantly be giving handouts to able bodied adults speaks poorly of the economic wellbeing of the citizens.
This is just electioneering rhetoric by the PM to curry favour with those gullible and overtrusting electors.

Well, whatever it takes to create revenue. Don’t sit back and miss out on medical/recreational marijuana PM? You have to offer something they can’t get on the ships. That being said you have to come up with meaningful aspects of the proposed legislation that keeps us in good standing with our use of our coast lines referenced here. They have those in Haiti where they annexed a section where the ships come in where the vendors and hair braiders are the only locals allowed. Good or bad it’s one source of revenue for the island, remember they get most of what your vendors offer on the ships. Offer them something novel, don’t miss out on legalizing marijuana for both recreation and medicinal to source even more revenues to the delight of those same tourists who yearn for something they can’t get on the ships.

You all are blaming the Prime Minister for every difficulty that surfaces in Dominican, including the natural disasters, which happens all over the World–even those that surfaced when he was still a boy, and those in charge did nothing about those difficulties –there is a lot of examples to prove that my insight are factual .

So now, if he says: I want to fix, I want to amend, I want to change, I want to rebuild, etcetera, why are you all still complaining. What in the World do you all want from him?

I believe that God is working through PM Skerrit, but all he can do is obey and follow His Will and guidance.

All things for the social and economic development in Dominica will be done by God’s Will, through the ones He qualifies to do those works. If this time it is PM Skerrit, let God do His Will, otherwise you people are making things worse; much, much, worse.

Anybody who would believe that Carnival Cruise Line or any other would spend money in any country to developed a cruise village or anything like that would have to be fool!

In the first place anything a tourist can find or buy in a cruise village, which there are not many around the world, the same things can be found aboard any Tourist Ship.  So, commonsense would dictate helping Roosevelt with a project like that would cause competition to Carnival Cruise!

It does not make any sense, but to a liar like Roosevelt it makes every sense in the world. The only two places on earth I encounter such facilities are in Belize, and a place in England!

  19. Pingpong
    December 21, 2018

Isn’t that the job of the tourism Minister? Why is it that the prime minister seems to be the one to be having all of these ‘discussions’? Why didn’t this discission take place when the 6 million dollars was being invested to ‘ready’ the tourist attraction sites so that some of these improvements, even on a miniature scale, could be implemented? What are the ministers being paid to do?
It seems as though the person’s with the responsibility has no vision. One can’t relay so heavily on others concerns in order to make improvements! There is so much I see that can be done!

While it is good to sit and talk with the clients Mr pm my thoughts are we should be sitting as a regional body to decide a way forward with our natural resource which is sun,sea , sand and nature. like OPEC the Caribbean has a monopoly on this resource and the Florida cruise industry has built a multi trillion dollar industry on our resource . All their 3,4 and 7 day cruise packages depends on us . So that means if they have 10 ships six of them must work in our region . given this advantage ,why do we have to be at their mercy ? All it takes is for us to come together as a region so we can have a much bigger peace of the pie ,while selling trinkets ,tours and entertainment is alright our economies should be booming from the amount of money we really should be making . We are busy looking for other streams of income when a river is staring us right in th face . Oh! I forget the coming together part . …. ! Black people have a special sickness ,we cannot unit . SMH
