Castle Bruce tourism product enhanced with bathroom facility

The new bathroom facility at Castle Bruce

The Castle Bruce tourism product has been enhanced, thanks to the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Dominica.

The Ministry, under the leadership of Minister Robert Tonge handed over a public bathroom facility to the Anse Kouanari Tourism Association Inc. (AKTA Inc) in Castle Bruce recently.

Tonge thanked the staff of his ministry for listening to the community in facilitating the construction of this facility. He said that everything that is done must be sustainable, properly marketed and very well maintained in order to benefit all concerned.

He urged the Association to work together in harmony with the community, in order to make the Castle Bruce experience a wonderful one for both residents and visitors.  He welcomed the facility as one that will contribute  to the community experience of visitors to Dominica.

Tonge encouraged Castle Bruce residents to take advantage of training and education opportunities to ensure that excellent service is available and consistent.

Parliamentary Representative for Castle Bruce, Johnson Drigo promised to make staff available by August 1st 2019 to the AKTA Inc to ensure that the facility is well maintained to be able to provide consistent service to the community and visitors.  He said the village is set to benefit from all of Government’s tourism programs and asked that the Minister of Tourism not take his eyes off Castle Bruce.

For the president of AKTA Inc, Adrien Bannis, the toilet facility is a dream come true for which he thanked the Ministry of Tourism, GEF, the parliamentary representative and the community.

Despite its choppiness of the Atlantic ocean, Bannis believes that the bayfront in Castle Bruce is a “lovely place” to be enjoyed by Castle Bruce residents and visitors.

There is an approved plan for further development of the entire Castle Bruce bayfront which the Anse Kouanari Tourism Association Inc. is hoping to make a reality.

Kouanari is the Kalinago name for Castle Bruce.

I wish we would see necessities for what it is. Having a ceremony for a toilet/latrine/Jon/loo is hilariuos.
Come in Dominicans please find something worthy to celebrate. Stop settling for the trivial mundane necessities to call as progress.

Somebody please donate a shirt that can actually fit Mr. Drigo properly. and also a pair of pants if is possible. For a grown public servant so high up in the Government, i cannot believe that nobody has mentioned how untidy you are in 2019.

It is obvious that you all never learn about hygiene at home or at school. The most important and useful piece of furniture at home is a toilet.it is an essential piece of equipment don’t run it down. To be successful in life we have to start somewhere don’t matter how small

Facilities like toilets are needed round Dominica so when traveling you could make pit stops instead of going in the bushes especially as a woman, it’s up to the village council to figure out ways to mention it and keep it open and running.

Where does the waste water go? Im all for having restrooms near public areas, but i dont see Mr. Bannis as the right person for the upkeep of this facility. Also i am wary of having a toilet on the beach, especially if the waste is untreated and is allowed to flow into the sea. That beach should be developed to encourage more sustainable businesses to attract more tourism to Castle Bruce. I dont mean the usual 2×4 shacks people call bars here. with the unsavory loud blaring music from sun up to sun down. I mean tasteful relaxing environment that attract visitors and keep them. Restaurants, salons, art gallerys, even a canoe building workshop. Have a small stage/pavillion for performances. If you are talking about development, everything must work flawless and not contradict each other. But for this article, my concern is the location of this public washroom.

Maybe they should have built a better bus stop than a toilet…

Did someone forget to invite the failing DLP candidate slated to replace Drigo  ?

It looks like her so called prominence has quickly dissipated and Drigo is back on center stage…..for now   . Could the rumor of her replacement be true? They say a picture tells a thousand words so I am still scratching my head because if this was about a month ago she would be the one delivering the keys fully dressed in RED battle gear to Mr. Adrien. In her absence, not even Drigo was given the opportunity for once to show what he has done for Castle Bruce. Poor Robbie had to take the lead role because some people have already ridden off into the sunset. Tic too, tic, too, tic!

Please use this building to train young people and teach civics to both to adults and youth, otherwise it will remain closed and will be underutilized. Please remember we do have the worst minister of tourism ever in the entire world which keep taking the number of tourist arrivals into the abyss.

The building was designed as a washroom. I doubt it can facilitate what you mentioned. But yes i agree that what u mentioned is actually also needed.

Surely tourists will now flock to Castle Bruce. No doubt, like all else in Dominica, it will be neither cleaned nor maintained, or last long. And beside nothing to do there and the beach being full of trash, what will those tourists do beside relieving themselves?

I think for the ten years Johno is I. Office I see him at. An inauguration of a project in his constituency. However, let me congratulate him and the anse tourism group. Keep the good works.

The hoopla would have been justified if a “Visitor Centre” had been constructed – with toilets (of course), change rooms (with showers) for those choosing to have a swim, one or more snackettes (or beverage dispensaries), perhaps one or more small shops for vending local products and an information/museum booth for highlighting the history of the area – with directions to the main local attractions. Plus a plan to ensure tour operators include this stop on their tours…

At a minimum, keep the toilets clean and supplied, the beach clean and provide sufficient waste bins for trash disposal…

All that big scene for a toilet. Sometimes i feel like we’re in 1971, that should’ve been there a long time ago. Shame on the Gov’t, this is embarrassing.

  14. August 5, 2019

My oh my; so now a “TOILET” become a tourism enhanced product!!!!! have we really lost our minds and become the laughing stock of the Caribbean; like the ole people say ” garcon it have more crazy people outside there than inside wee” what about transforming “la riviere L’or” into a picnic area with parking area, shelter and change rooms.

what a shame and an insult, you mean in this time and age you come to boast about basic facility? where are the main attractions in the area? Drigo and Tonge behave like never see come see. people must sh.. what the heck is this, what these people should look for they don’t. well they must publicize their toilets at home, take photos to show the plumber handing it over to them, cause it look like having toilet facility which is a basic need, is like a million dollar product, or a rare thing. This tells us how small these people think, and they have nothing of significance to show, that is why our the tourism sector is in such bad state, less cruise ship calls for this upcoming season due to their bad management, tell the people about the cruise ship report for 2017-2018 season. Our ports and sites are the worse, so go do your work, nothing of significant to report on for the past five years under your portfolio. Nothing to shout about.

Drigo looks like he well ready to go poo-poo in that new toilet   . Just like when children get a new toy and they want to test it. Well at least Castle Bruce people must be happy because Drigo, oh sorry Tonge finally give the constituency something. I am pleasantly surprised that Madam UN Ambassador did not come and accept the keys to the new toilet and be the first tourist to use it. I hope they don’t make the people believe that it cost 1 billion to build it so there goes our passport money. Way de money uncle?

What Castle Bruce tourism product would that be exactly ? All I see is a beach (that needs a good clean up) and a village that is still mostly broken following hurricane Maria. Oh, yes, and a brand new apartment building/ghetto that has been constructed on the river mouth (just wondering how climate resilient that choice of location is). I think you may have completely lost the plot. It seems everything in Dominica is now referenced in the context of tourism – even a lime green beachside toilet building.

Congrats to the Anse Kouanari Tourism Asso. Inc. (AKTA Inc.) for this edifice on the Beach. It speaks volume of your concern for the Environment, not only to visitors but to all users of our Beaches and Rivers.
We hope and pray that other Community Leaders will follow you example and make such valuable investment in “Our Waterways in our Communities”.

Politicians are an interesting breed but I dare say I will never understand. Why are they bragging about basic facilities which is supposed to be available to the public? How long has this “tourist product” been in existence? If the answer is a long while, then why are they bragging.

Really, DNO? A toilet enhances the tourism product? There will be more visitors because of a toilet? Yes, it is good that people will have access to a toilet; this should be a given. Do not stretch it. Let us Dominicans stop majoring in minors.

Please let our kids read properly DNO

    Rude

    ADMIN: That’s your personal opinion.

The fact is, this is the most common reporting style.

Look again at our articles you can see we use name and title for individuals when introducing them in the story and then use their last name to refer to them from then on.

:?:  These rogues are laughable,a big joke and con at that! Is this something to celebrate as an achievement for tourism :?: First of all,as a Nature Island and given the Kalinago name Kouanari, the structure of that facility does not identify with any! These rogues holding the governance of the island hostage, really don’t have a clue about anything relating to the development of the island! They just come up with electioneering and election gimmickry by constructing with no plans! This slave plantation island is in a very sad and sorry state! If the people don’t get enlightened and wake up,then they’re all lost and doomed to eternity!!!

“Tonge encouraged residents to take advantage………service is available and consistent.” Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ha! What consistent service can one give to another using a public facility? Is that what Castle Bruce people have become? Is as. wiping going to be a service offered from now on? Of all the services withing the tourism sector that’s what Dominicans are encouraged to learn to provide!?!?? Lately I have noticed that Robert Tonge has been in the news with some 2×4 plywood huts and now this. Is that what our tourism ministry can afford us? Tonge, I believe, has antiguan roots and is eegularly im Antigua. When you compare the tourism plant in Antigua with what obtains in Dominica are you happy and satisfied? I have never heard of a miasing o e billion dollars in Antigua and in one swoop at that. So it is evident that money is passing through dDominica. What are you thieving labor politicians doing with that money to take Dominica from the bottom of the pile?

A toilet? Seriously? Nothing else to account for in tourism? I‘d much rather know where the $1‘065‘000‘000 are. We all have our suspicions right? But I would like to know.
