Celebrity Meets Calypso 2025 to honor the legacy of late Evelina Baptiste

The anticipation is building in the local calypso community as the 3rd Edition of Celebrity Meets Calypso 2025 is set to take place at My Mother’s Place, formerly the Evergreen Hotel in Castle Comfort – on Wednesday evening from 8:30 PM.

This year’s edition promises to be an emotional and memorable one, as it pays homage to the late Evelina Baptiste, a highly respected former Magistrate and Calypso Head Judge.

Evelina Baptiste was known for her passion and dedication to the art form. Tragically, she was scheduled to participate in the Celebrity Meets Calypso event when her untimely passing occurred. In a poignant tribute to her memory, a very special guest will be paying tribute with the song that Ms. Baptiste had chosen to sing, “Black Woman” by Singing Sandy. This particular song holds a special significance, as Singing Sandy sang it during one of her earlier judging stints at the show, making it a nostalgic and meaningful choice for Ms. Baptiste.

This exceptional tribute is not the only highlight of the evening. A stellar lineup of local celebrants has been selected to take part in the Celebrity Meets Calypso 2025 show, each delivering their own unique performance. The participants include:

* Jacinta Fagan Defoe with “Let Children Be Children” by Tasha P
* Kimanie Felicite singing “That’s Life” by Sandy
* Hon Lakeya Joseph with “Put De Brakes On Them” by Brakes
* James Gregoire performing “Look How We Come” by Spider (also known as “Going Down Slowly”)
* Kaywana Fontaine singing “These are the days” by Dice
* Garvin Richards with a Medley performance with Curtis Matthew
* Jeffrey Joseph singing Kool Pipe by Sour Sour
* Milliar Joseph singing “Fight For Justice” by Shanice
* Mikael Ferrol performing “Carib BACCHANAL”
* Gloria Augustus singing “Pirates of the Caribbean”
* Janae Jackson performing “Black Woman” by Singing Sandy, originally selected by Evelina Baptiste (as the special tribute to the late calypso head judge)
* Ronald Charles with “Ba Yo Pwiye” by Checko
* Anthony Scotland singing “Between You and Me” by Brake

Nickess Morancie, former Ms. Dominica Contestant and first runner-up will also be participating.

Organizers say the Celebrity Meets Calypso 2025 is an exciting opportunity for local calypso enthusiasts to celebrate the art form and honor the memory of a calypso, and arts and culture enthusiast. The event promises to be an unforgettable evening of music, passion, and remembrance, and we look forward to witnessing the talented performances of these local celebrants.
