2018 Christmas Message by Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton

In Humble Adoration, We Reflect

Greetings in the timeless Christmas tradition of love to all the “sons and daughters of this gem beyond compare”.

Regardless of the challenges and difficulties in our social and economic circumstances, Christmas remains a favorite time of the year for the Nature Island people of Dominica. Once again, this year 2018, years since the spirit of peace on earth and goodwill to men accompanied the Christ Child to Bethlehem, we embrace the blessings of family and friends with all the joy that characterizes the season.

As we close yet another year in the struggle to build an ideal nature island society and a sustainable nature island economy, we join the millions of Christians of good conscience around the world to celebrate the birth of Jesus and the values that defined his remarkable life.

In humble adoration, we reflect on guidelines for joyous nature island living that have emerged from His teachings:

“Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruits; the sun does not shine for itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We were born to help each other”.

Let us therefore continue to strengthen our commitment to treat one another with love and compassion; care for the sick; feed the hungry; look out for the poor; and stand up for the victims of injustice and persecution. For it is these acts of human kindness that will continue to bind us together as God’s beloved soldiers in the advancement of global civilization.

As we join hearts and hands in celebration this Christmas, let us ponder the importance of making our “Isle of Beauty” the Nature Island of the World. This national collective effort that patiently awaits us with understanding. In the next few years, we can… and therefore we must:

  • Create a success story of nature island citizen engagement and participation that brings government, people, businesses, civil society groups and neighborhoods in a collective effort to make Dominica the real, authentic, one and only Nature Island of the World
  • Establish a nature island context for education and health care and ground them in the scope and human development benefits of our natural resources
  • Infect the culture with the values, attitudes and behaviors that will allow our ecosystems, our biodiversity to support our sustainability
  • Establish disaster prevention and management systems to prevent loss of life; avoid fatal damage to administrative, social and economic systems; mitigate damage to public and private property; and achieve speedy recovery and reconstruction
  • Set and achieve aggressive targets for water quality, food security, clean air, green businesses, green jobs, climate resilience, minimizing our carbon footprint, reducing consumption and eliminating waste
  • Complete the shift to renewable energy technologies
  • Connect the transportation sector to renewable energy through electric mobility
  • Place priority attention on environmentally friendly design and construction of buildings that will minimize environmental impact and allow nature to work for us instead of working against nature and thereby driving up energy consumption.

The Christmas story guarantees the Christian people of good conscience in this Isle of Beauty that God will implement his plan for change, not by force from the outside but from His spirit that dwells within us all. The more we do His goodwill, the more he abides with us and the more He will move to perform His wonders driven by the pace of our interest and commitment.

Let this be the Christmas season in which we make doubly sure the alignment of our inner selves with what famed civil rights activist Martin Luther King described as an outside force dedicated to driving change and speeding up the course of justice:

“… there is a creative force in this universe working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows.”

This Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, we stand on the blessed assurance that we can and will reform the broken electoral system that threatens to deform our freedom and democracy; we can and will stamp out the abuse of public office for private gain; we can and will end poverty; and we can and will secure the greatest good for the greatest number.

Happy Holidays in the love and blessings of His marvelous light.

Lennox Linton

What hypocrisy! Lennox you obviously didn’t reflect on your own deeds and utterances of 2018. Should I remind you of your February 7th address to your mob and your urgings to rain stones on the police, and your efforts at dissuading potential donors from assisting in the rebuilding of Dominica in the wake of Maria!
I could give several more examples of your conduct to illustrate my assertion of your hypocrisy, but I will leave it to your conscience.

Great message from the leader of the opposition, who once again confirms that he has the vision and fortitude to lead Dominica out of that very dark hole Roosevelt Skerrit has put us in. However Mr. Linton needs to show himself as a people’s person. I continue to feel very offended when I see the leader of opposition walk through crowds and sometimes small groups of three or four persons without saying hi or hello except they are well known supporters of the uwp. I continue to wonder how he expects to win people when he is so unfriendly. He needs to understand that no matter how anointed a preacher is people will avoid his church if he is not friendly. I personally love Mr. Linton because he is honest, has the vision and team to lead Dominica but I would like him to understand that it doesn’t take much to just say a little good morning to people and even stop by and shake a few hands. Dominica badly needs change and Hon. Linton needs to show himself as a friend of the people

      @The prophetic voice

The qualities of leadership in a person, especially the one which MR. Linton is seeking, has to be revealed in that person’s “CHARACTER” and “KNOWLEDGE” of the post which he/she is contesting. You have confirmed that Mr. Linton does not have the character, but I say that, he has neither.

PM Skerrit must have had to learn a lot about leadership in his field of work–he being such a young person at his appointment ; but there is a saying that: “God does not call the qualified, He qualifies those whom He calls”. That may be true about PM Skerrit; he may still be under God’s control and only Him can make the call for his release–it is not in man’s authority to do so

However, God calls those who are humble and obedient at heart; so that His ways can be glorified through them. The character of “self-pride” and “haughtiness” doesn’t stand a chance, for He said: “No flesh shall glory in His presence.” Think about that!

Elizabeth, read this carefully and stop your nonsense , irrelevant comments. “The qualities of leadership in a person, especially the one which Immature, failed inept Skerrit is seeking, has to be revealed in that person’s “CHARACTER” and “KNOWLEDGE” is on e that is questionable due to failure in office. For example: Skerrit’s to be summoned to Commissioned Enquiry to account for our states funds re the following: 1. Bin Bobol, 2. Fertilizer Bobol, 3. Massive undeclared sales of our passports, 4. The Red Clinic where our poor parents and families have been reduce to as beggars at the entrance of the Financial centre where states monies was just distributed without the consent of parliament and cabinet. That I understood from a top Civil servant in the 5th Floor.
So Elizabeth keep your BS to your self and decide id you love Dominica or not , if not migrant to Haiti, it is nice there. Good luck. One more thing, take that failed Skerrit with you.
Skerrit Go. We welcome decent UWP…

“This is a balanced, thoughtful, non partisan Christmas message”. Lady Valley, thanks much. Go tell those two blind loyalists; “Man Bites Dog” and that Kid (Childish) on the Block”, playing with their toys. These two clowns put failed Skerrit first before our ailing Domininca. They are so politically blind and illiterate, they have been asked many times, where has and where is the development taken place in Domininca to stop our ailing country go deeper into poverty and destitution under failed Skerrit, who knows nothing of and about Socio-economic development. This deprivation has been created by this Failed Skerrit and his incompetent 18 waste of time Labour ministers, with a group of blind loyalists talking any language to promote Skerrit from this deep political abyss he has created for himself due to poor, silly so called advisers who he has created and was not and still not sufficiently mature enough to think for himself. This man Skerrit must Go. He has failed us.

John J: I see you have no problem with skerrit getting political even when saying a prayer, but you making no mistake to call out Linton who is trying to save your foolish self from political prison. people like you are getting some type of hand out from skerrit hence the reason you tagget linton, with a hand out skerrit can do no wrong but you need to know that hand outs is not a guaranteed paycheck there will be times you wont get any because you did not learn to fish for yourself, that’s what you are getting from skerrit waiting for his boat to come ashore, that’s not a good habit my friend. get your own boat be an independent person then you will understand who is best to lead dominica. best wishes to all Dominicans at home and abroad lets make a change of government next time around we have the power to make changes don’t let it slip away from us, if we don’t use it we can loose it. its our voting rights.

“Once again, this year 2018, years since the spirit of peace on earth and goodwill to men accompanied the Christ Child to Bethlehem, we embrace the blessings of family and friends with all the joy that characterizes the season”–News Article

But no human being knows the date of entry of the “Christ Child of Bethlehem”, into this World Hence right here, we already have a false concept of who Jesus really is, how can we ever come to completely, know Him.

And yet He said that: “Knowledge” of God Almighty, Eternal Spirit, and our understanding of Him to be “the Christ” and the “Son”, as One Person, is evidence of Eternal Life in us, mankind, as faith motivates us to believe

In 2018, over 2000 years since Jesus made His entry into this World, it is not the time to think of Him as a “Christ child of Bethlehem”; it is the time to prepare ourselves for His return to rule the then transformed World. “His Law is Love and His Gospel is Peace”

Elizabeth, No comments on the rubbish yo have written above. Your so called Skerrit is a failure and he will go. It is overdue, and we don’t need hi in this high office. He has failed and he is too distracted with ridiculously flying all over the place and comes back with BS talk. He is not diplomatically focused, he is not developmentally educated he is distracted by the rotten friends who circle Him. Good Luck Skerrit and Good Bye. Go talk to Elizabeth , she is this diplomatic who can advice you.

Very pertinent and timely message. This message should resonate with all fair minded and patriotic Dominicans. I’ve always believe that our sole purpose of living is to help each other especially the least fortunate among us. We have to be less selfish and more selfless. Society has to become less divisive and more cohesive. Government should govern for everybody and mot just party diehards. Dominicans should stop accepting mediocrity and settle for nothing but excellence. May we put God at the centre of lives for the new year. I wish all good health, prosperity and longevity in 2019.

LINTON I know you didn’t write that so-called message yourself it could not have come from your head Having said that 2019 on its way are you going to behave yourself like a man or an idiot once again, And that is my Christmas message to you old man.

    • December 26, 2018

It’s so sad that some folks like yourself refuses to really listen to what Linton is been saying all along, and now you don’t believe he wrote his speech I’m still hopping that as we are coming to the end of 2018 and moving into 2019 that we will put hatred and injustice on the back burner because we all have work to do Rebuilding the Island and it doesn’t have anything to do with parties or colors. Let’s follow the Christmas message to the best of our ability.. Peace and Goodwill to all.

@ peace, Myself and 99.9% of my fellow countryman Dominicans wouldn’t trust that bloke they call Lennox Linton with a word he says. I am from Pottersville Steber Street, I know that bloke well when he came down from Marigot as a young boy and nothing has change and nothing else will that is why I knew Linton didn’t wrote that Christmas message rubbish.

Man Bites Dogs, there is no way you can compare Hon Linton, with your fake incompetent failed Skerrit who ahs been questioned about the resources of our failed Domininca. Go clean up your dirty Labour backyard before you point finger at hon . Linto when nine (9) fingers are pointed at you failed Skerrit, who still has to answer to us, may we remind you , 1. The Bin Bobol, 2. The Fertilizer Bobol, 3. the Red Clinic Bobol, the abuse of the states funds handed out to desperate mother and families because there is no jobs with these poor suffering people quing up at Financial Centre. What a state and disgust your Skerrit and is Corrupt Labour Government has reduced our people to beggars and handouts rather than creating jobs for them. Skerrit is that failed questionable Odd Minister and he must go as quickly as possible and don’t come back. He has given us in the 18 years, lies, no jobs, no investment, the list of major industries and all he does is fly about like a nuisance fly comes…

Man WILL and COME again with your political message. We fed up with that BS. Your crying won’t brake our heart. The Nature Isle of BEAUTY and SPLENDOR is at your mercy begging for help for what you the Novice is doing to her. Nationally and Internationally. Nothing but Pain and Sorrow. All the same PEACE and LOVE, hope you have a MERRY XMAS and hope you enter 2019 with a different mind set. Be A LITTLE MORE humane and leave ALL your animalistic behavior BACK in 2018 .

KID, I’ve often implore you to desist from using so much of your time and energy criticizing the main opposition leader and his party. Use your time to improve yourself. Almost every time you make a comment on this forum you embarrass yourself without you even knowing.
You KID: Your crying won’t BRAKE our heart(s). Our hearts are not vehicles.
Correction: Your crying won’t BREAK our hearts.
This is grade 3 grammar. Go and spend more time in a book. What polish does a shoe, a book does to the brain.

John, he did well all the way through to the end. Its obvious it reflects the nature of our ailing island and these moments of truth must be seen to be heard and focus on comparative thoughts t from various sources that we comprehend and build up ourselves through thorough reading and analysis.. that is what you are missing why you were able to conclude with this limited thought without getting hold of the bigger picture. well, John Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to you and let us wish our country well and not continue to be reduce to deeper poverty of our people. Skerrit is a big failure. We look forward to a new government, a new vison,, a new team and I see this in the Hon Linton and his Professional UWP Team. We have lost that performance in failed Skerrit and his useless, corrupt Labour Government. They, that Corrupt labour government, under failed Skerrit have failed us, they must go, kicked out of government. Lets us welcome Hon Linton and his professional UWP team. We Pray.

Whoaaaaaaaaa…Hon Linton, this is rich, easy reading, thoughtful, represents every Dominican, wherever they are, Home, in the nature isle or overseas as they continue one way or another to remember Domininca and still express loyalty and tie for family an friends.
The spirit of this message by Hon Linton i one of a new page in our independence and security and development where we as a people must be disciplined to understand the process involved and engaed in this prospect and challenge that is before us, once this failed Skerrit government departs and make way for decent government for our people. In 2019 that is where we advocated strongly for change as we await a new more decent, professional, dedicated, non corrupt like Labour government and to have UWP that all professionals appreciate and respected as they prepare to undertake their tasks in absence of Skerrit and his corrupt Labour government. We have suffered enough under Skerrit, a failed leader. Dominicans need better.
