Clement Marcellin appeals to Vieille Case constituents to ‘rise up’ for a better future

Marcellin delivering his address at his declaration on May 11, 2019

“I am running to restore the broken systems which no longer deliver on the promise of a brighter future,” UWP candidate, Clement Marcellin told supporters in Penville on Saturday night.

Marcellin was on Saturday 11th May 2019, officially declared the UWP candidate to contest the upcoming general election in the Vieille Case constituency.

“We need representatives who have the absolute confidence in people. We need a government representative who will assist in developing industries, businesses, companies, and not simply sell passports as the only revenue generating scheme,” Marcellin told the gathering. “This election is about the future and last hope of rescuing Dominica from the claws of failed leadership. We have two options, either we cast a blind eye and fall into peril and despair or we rise up. We rise up and vote for a better future for our children.”

He sought to dispel the notion that politicians are all from “the same breed.”

“Make no mistake,” he told his audience. “I stand tall on values. I stand tall on principles of good governance. I stand tall for accountability. I see constituency empowerment as the main asset for economic prosperity.”

Marcellin went on to say that he believes in inclusiveness and when elected, he will develop programs for “all and with all.”

“I will develop community institutions and mechanisms to leverage fair and unbiased services for every community member. …..revitalizing the economy of the north with more investment in agriculture and agro-business, tourism, renewable energy technology and indigenous herbal medicine etc.” the Penville native promised.

Using his native kweyol language, Marcellin recounted words of advice received from older heads during his political journey.

“Maman mwen toujou di mwen, lesspwit pas ka weste adans yon sel tet.” (My mother always tells me, wisdom does not reside in one head),” he related. “Plis ou wantwe adan bwa, pli ou jwenn bel bwa” (the further you go into the forest, the more beautiful the trees you meet), meaning that no matter how good something looks, there is always something better.

According to Marcellin,  good, better, best and excellence will always be perpetual enemies, “so no matter how good something looks, you need to change and keep looking for something better.”

Marcellin reminded voters of the significance of a political campaign.

“ When the polls close on election night and the fanfare has all mellowed down, it comes down to you – your lives, your children’s future, your community and your country. A political campaign is a movement which should inspire confidence, outline plans and programs for community and create a momentum for change, not just a sewo or a bachanal and certainly not to instill fear,” he stated.

Addressing some people from Penville who were standing on the hillside in the dark listening and cheering, Marcellin asked, “Why are my people of Penville standing on the hill when there is light and ample space for you to come and listen?” He urged them to not be afraid and to take a stand for what they believe is right.

UWP leader Party Leader, Lennox Linton in his address, compared the entry of Marcellin and his opponent Prime Minister Skerrit into the political arena as “chalk and cheese.” He contends that Marcellin is far more knowledgeable than Skerrit was when he started out and said it will be the biggest upset in political history in Dominica when Marcellin defeats Skerrit in the upcoming general election.

I wish Clemo well, but it’s just wishful thinking and outright delusion to think he can defeat Skerrit. In fact seeing his zest and passion to serve I predict he will be one of the first to bail out on Lennox. But Let’s see. Good luck my boy.

Clemo should be the leader of the opposition party!! On top of all his qualities, he is a very handsome man. It seems Dominicans don’t like ugly people since looks are worth mentioning for such a time as this… and dare I say his looks would push him over the edge 😂 sad but true reality… years ago a big part of what mr. Skerrit had to offer was ‘his looks’.. mr. Clemo I would like you to be PM..the same way they say you dont have experience is the same way mr.skerrit had none and he was selected.. give the young man a chance..

  3. May 15, 2019

I’ve been calling on the young people of Dominica to come to the fore; speak out and take their places in the political arena for the sake of their own development and that of future generations; this young man has put a glimmer of hope on the horizon and I wish to applaud him for his candid bravery and intelligence.

:?: Those of you on here who usually speak and write without any proper analysis and objective thinking, want to make it look like is rocket science for Clemo to win, it’s not! The present Parliamentary Representative only won the Vielle Case seat with a little over a 1000 votes. With Clemo taking half of that added to the votes UWP usually receives, the seat is a must win for Clemo! Think before writing, human being are very complex and can make changes quickly and Clemo has turned heads!

This is the litmus test for the entire UWP party.

If they really care about the future of Dominica or removing our “beloved” Dr. Dr. and winning the next general election, they would immediately call an executive meeting to coach and appoint Mr. Clement Marcellin as the party leader.

You’re really a Kermit…I guess the devil you guys serving makes you people think that progress is impossible…well stay begging, stay crying, stay living under the normal means of life and stay without hope…but there are those who wishes to live and experience life to the maximum of their ability without falling under the trap of a demon-serving dictator.

What a powerful speech by the newcomer. I was very impressed from start to finish. He sounded way better than some of the “veterans”, example Spags John who sits on the Roseau Bridge all day drinking Guiness. I want to hear more from this new penville guy. Maybe he can give me reason to vote the saw.

It’s no easy task to remove skerrit from his stronghold. I hope you have something else in your arsenal other than your words? Something I said last election and I’ll say it again “得人心者得天下” if you win the hearts of the people you can win everything under the skies.

:?: This can be an easy win for Clemo, it’s not a rocket science! Just check the amount of votes that the one-man rogue regime prime mistake receives, half of it with the usual voters of UWP in that constituency and he wins! :?:

Let me take this opportunity to endorse Mr Clement Marcellin candidacy for the Vieille Case constituency. His presentation was solid and I believe that the people of Penville, Vieille Case and Thibaud should give this young man, a man of integrity, an honest man, a God fearing man and a man with a development plan that will positively touch the lives of every resident of the constituency including Mr Roosevelt Skerrit himself, the opportunity to represent their interests in the next Parliament of Dominica.

I believe that God is talking to us in a very serious way and is giving us signs of the things to come if we want our country to experience prosperity and not just talk prosperity. I believe that the presence of Clement Marcellin in the political arena is God sent and our failure to recognize and embrace that will lead us to further despair.

May we vote wisely and intelligently at the next General Elections.

I know for a fact Clemo must win that seat, he have the majority in Thibaud Skerrit has the edge in Vieille case and we in Penville are supporting our own big time. I am telling Clemo must win Vieille case, remember i tell allyou that. must!

He is a great person with many enviable qualities. However, he needs some political experience before he takes up the mantle as leader of the party. He will get there after delivering the knock-out punch to Mr. Skerrit’s hopes of retaining his seat. This guy has the credentials to become almost anything he wants to be. The right attitude, the requisite intelligence, the correct focus, the patience and humility, the selflessness, the trust and confidence of the people. He is an exceptionally rare human treasure.

Mr. Linton is a great person, and I have nothing against him, but he has become the Achilles heel of the UWP. He now has to decide. Is his priority deposing Dr.Dr. and helping move Dominica in the right direction or just becoming PM himself.

    May 13, 2019

I still Red but I must say I was very impressed with his speech. he brought hope, vision and he never criticized PM or the DLP, though he pointed to their failure. I really hope that this new kind of politics will be the pattern for a long time. Oh what a speech that was! I don’t even think this message is for Dominica because to me, it is par with what I heard from President Obama, two years before he became PM. To speak the truth, the only thing he said I didn’t like was when he said he “I handsome”, though I know he was joking. Looks should have no part in our politics and I hope he never repeats it again. Speaking of Jesus, Isaiah 53:2 says “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.” So as a Christian don’t get dragged into that beauty thing. We need men and women of Good character, hard working and a vision to change Dominica. All in all I am inspired and I feel I voting blue next election because of people…

Brilliant! I mean BRILLIANT man. Honestly speaking I have been a laborite all my life but this time I going a different direction and Clement really confirmed why I should switch next election. I am from Penville and though I defended PM in public inwardly I was grieving because I knew PM failed us in the constituency and DA on a whole. Penville was his stronghold in the constituency and every time I pass by the health Center and go down to the playing field, something taking me man. In case you guys forget let me remind you that Fernix Thomas, the former Dominica and Windward island fast bowler, who should have also played for WI, is from Penville and is on that same playing field he played his cricket. You mean after 20 yrs PM couldn’t fix the field in honor of him, a strong DLP supporter? I mean how could our health care be in that state after 20yrs? We have a young man that has all what it takes to be a Prime Minister and I now call on everyone to vote our first parlrep and PM.

“We need a government representative who will assist in developing industries, businesses, companies, and not simply sell passports as the only revenue generating scheme,”

The words quoted are that of a young visionary; who realizes without industries, a country cannot survive! Agriculture, serves a purpose in every country; nevertheless, agriculture is not the ultimate solution!

We need to become involve in modern manufacturing technologies, developing and producing commodities and exporting what we produce.
Without the exportation of local products no revenue will come into the country, if we do not have anything to trade.

Countries are run by taxes collect from the people, in order for that to happen the citizens of a country must be gainfully employed; a country cannot survive depending solely on the sale of passports!

The sale of the passport is not an industry; it does not employ the youths of the country; nevertheless Roosevelt, his ministers, and sales…

I was at paille playing field in 99-2000 when then candidate for the villecase constituency was introduced. I was at that labour rally and heard Mr. Roosevelt skerrit stammer brothers and sisters over 100 times within his speech. I can tell you this was way better and much more promising. It is even better than the PM does after 20 years. If as a newbee you were that good i cannot wait to see you as you get more confident and comfortable. Penville, villecase, and thibau will be making a mistake if they do not elect this guy. Dominica future is in the youth and from my vantage point Clement is the future. We cannot just look about change without thinking future. Some will say they all crooks to justify why they keep making stupid decisions. I singing sanky for skerrit cause his days of swindling people are numbered. Charcter of a man is in his actions and i have seen enough. Boy, for whatever it’s worth, you could make it on a comedian show.
If you were in England when that guy from Wesley Ola had his Television show on Saturday mornings, you could have performed as a stand-comic for him!

You have the talent of a stand-up comic; he is not riding in from any place  he is from Penville walking distance from Roosevelt tens of million dollar house.

You know the one he built soon after becoming prime minister?

When people questioned the source of the millions it cost, his answer was: “it is just a modest house.”

You know who else used that term?

The late Roosevelt Douglas, whos house was indeed a modest house.

Now Man Dog; how come we have a Roosevelt Skerrit, and a late Roosevelt Douglas?
I boy Francisco “wanda if dem related; ah wanda if wan is Sr. Roosevelt an de next wan is Jr. Roosevelt?

I doh know eh, ah just asking oui!

Mr. Marcellin, I listened to you with great enthusiasm, I love your speech and I am impressed with the plans and ideas you have and want to implement.
I am also impressed with the fact that unlike the other side you did not use the platform for insults and did not once referred to the current representative by name. This is maturity at its best.
I can see you making a productive Minister of Sports/ Culture and Youth Empowerment. (my new ministry for you)
Along the way you will find people who would want to discourage you, as it is unthinkable for you to go up against the current representative and win.
My brother, once your heart is righteous, your motive is pure and your spirit is unselfish, God will remove any mountain in your path once it is his will.

Bro, I am a youth man and I opened my ears when you to do so. You asked those over 50 to cover and block theirs (ears). I hope your leader, Lennox, listened to your cry because his time has passed and expired.
Bro. I respect your path but you maybe in the right church but in the wrong pew.

    • Jack Sparrow
      May 13, 2019

Imagine, you took a figurative comment and applied it literally.
Since age is a criteria for you:
How old was Rosie at the time of his death as Prime minister: 59
How old was Pierro at the time of his death as Prime minister: 50
How old is Lennox Linton as the current leader of the Opposition: 46
So if we were to take Clement literally, Lennox’s ears should not have been blocked.
(Interestingly, Wikipedia have both men, Roosevelt Skerrit and Lennox Linton being born on the same day.)
However the point that Clement was making is that young people have been ostracized by this administration and he is determined to work with the youth in taking this country forward… but of course you would not have heard that.

ADMIN: That site’s information about his age is incorrect.

      • KID ON THE BLOCK
        May 14, 2019

Jack Sparrow, do you mean 64?
Well if Lennox is 46, Skerrit must be 26.

You are a corrupt little boy who is happy to receive a few scraps occasionally. Others are more ambitious and don’t relish the constant begging and they have some pride left in them. Why don’t you find something constructive to do instead of trying to defend an incompetent and constantly lying thief who on top of it calls himself Prime minister. Why don’t you ask your crime minister to show you the CBI accounts, or ask him of the whereabouts of the 100 Million PetroCaribe money. Or ask him to show you the MOU with China or tell you exactly why Ross left the country? You are not man enough to do that but you rather keep putting your head in the sand in exchange for a few dollars from your masters loot!

A strong candidate: Young, Vibrant and Eager but his opponent is much much stronger. While Marcellin may be well loved in the community of Penville and has grown up around the people all his life. Skerrit is loved in the constituency and has shown the people that he is for them and he looks out for them. Face the reality that the people are not ready to get rid of Roosevelt Skerrit. Illogical Argument. I dont believe in insults but i like to give advice. Read the Bible, the bible is truth because it is inspired by God. Scripture says that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD! guess you not a believer.

But Skerrit will not understand you. He is of low intellect . From where i stand, the 50 years Labourites gave him (Skerrit) to demolish Dominica, will end after we have free and fair election soon!!!

Wow I am so impress with this young man. He definitely gives me hope that when all is said and done with this administration- be it next year or 5 years from now, we will be ok. He has a bright future in Dominica’s politics and leadership. I remain optimistic for Dominica. Good Luck Sir in the elections- I can smile again knowing that tomorrow is a day away and things will be better for Dominica tomorrow. You want to make me weep.

    All the best.

Let Marcellin run for PM if you really want UWP to win. If y’all make this move UWP will have election in the bag. The man has it all to be a respectable leader that surpasses Dominican Politics but also Regional and World Politics. He is young , energetic , he has charisma , he has qualifications, and experience in dealing with people. I mean who else is better suited to be Leader of Uwp on this platform? Lennox will win but with CSME becoming more of a reality and Caribbean Govt working closer together we need someone who will be able to represent us and who will be respected by the international community. Lennox cannot stand on his own internationally he will not be able to successfully challenge any actor in World Politics. This man however has it all. He is able to speak in such a way that is smart but the everyday man can relate. Supporters of the UWP this man is the ideal party leader to lead the UWP to Victory.

These are just words fooling you all. These guys are fool of it. Words mean nothing. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Not as handsome as the late Maurice Bishop. Talking is cheap and pure garbage. These UWP candidates are just boom-boom clats, bongo natty nyer.
