The village of Colihaut will be hosting its tenth reunion anniversary celebration under the theme “Together We Are One,” and is encouraging all Dominicans at home and abroad to show their support.
The celebration is carded for July 27th to August 7th 2017.
Speaking at a press conference held on Friday June 9th 2017, president of the planning committee for the event, Nicholas George, said the reunion is geared towards harnessing the creativity of all persons.
“…Harness the creativity of every person despite their diversity in style, faith, and other beliefs from the village in strengthening unity among villagers in the delivery of services that will add to the overall development of the village,” George stated.
The event also seeks to highlight the cultural history of the villagers while harnessing the “institutional memory of its elders,” as well as engaging the youth in building the community.
The planning committee envisages bringing 400-800 members of the community living outside of the village and overseas, to the celebration; and this, according to George, is slowly becoming a reality as many Dominicans abroad are showing keen interest in the event.
The programme of activities for the event includes a Miss Reunion 2017 Pageant, a villagers and diaspora “Meet and Greet”, a church service and one of the programme’s highlights, a “Reliving of Tropical Storm Erika” activity on August 1st 2017.
“We are going to have an activity for that night where we will be talking about what Erika did to us, showing videos and pictures of Erika, learning from this experience so that we can be more resilient persons in the community,” secretary of the planning committee, Mitchel John, explained.
According to the Colihaut Reunion Committee president, they have not yet received responses to requests for sponsorship from the government, through the minister of finance, and the private sector.
The committee is encouraging public patronage of the twelve days of activities.

keep doing the good works
All you must stop with this reunion business which is (in my view) an extension of Carnival. It’s another event where much alcohol is consumed and women get pregnant by their cousins; because they are too drunk to recognize their sex partner. Thus we bring more fatherless Children into the world and our Country. Too much bacanal and reveling for a small place where so much hardship and corrupt ad-MINI-stration is the order of the day. Are we living similarly as in the days of the flood and Sodom? T’wd be nice if we set some time to get together and praise and worship the Almighty for all that He has done for us. Say Amen somebody!
What kind of narrow minded thinking is this? Have you seen the schedule of activies? Smh. People who thinks like you should go and live in the bush. No Amen to your foolish thinking.
Why should they come down to patronize the reunion when you all do not want them to come down to vote? What sense does that make? Oh, so they are only Dominicans when it fit your agenda? smh……..
The government, in particular the minister of finance won’t give an input because of who one of the organisers and planners is. This is how they operate. Look at what they did to Danny Lugay in Goodwill. He headed a committee to enhance the Lindo Park and the government frustrated him and took the project from him all because he is a member of the opposition. Shame, shame, shame on them!
Shut up who say uwp want to work with the government they showed that already so you just shut your mouth
Hon. Dr Prime minister is the leader of the whole island. He is the leader of the current government who collects tax from the entire population. If the prime minister or parliamentary representative fails to assist or contribute to this community event they fail in their duties. The youth will be watching their action and we will decide at the next general election!
Do your really expect to receive patronage from the Government. My advice to you is to change your color and have Hon. Daniel as president.
Doc.Love, why are you promoting and propagating division? This isn’t a party thing. This is a community coming together for the good and benefit of all. Why divide the people with colours? I shouldn’t be surprised because this is the mantra of the Labour Party and government. Be red or be dead.
Thanks to the people of colihout for inviting the Dominican diasporas, some of us will try and make it. but if not please have a safe , and pleasant time. we will be there in the spirit.
Everyone can come for reunion Mr George but they cannot come for elections hypocrite
You’re comparing a village reunion with coming home to vote to put/KEEP people in misery?? You sound like a certified A
