After waiting seven years to perform his own songs on the big stage among popular international and regional artists, local artiste Colton T was finally given the opportunity to do so at this year’s 21st Annual World Creole Music Festival (WCMF).
Colton T whose full name is Colton Thomas was the opening act on the first night of the festival, performing for 45 minutes at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
“I really enjoyed myself and I believe the people had fun and that’s important; the people enjoyed themselves,” Colton T said during an interview with the media shortly after his performance.
He said young people are capable of doing great things once they are determined to do so.
Performing before a large audience, Colton T gave a tribute to his mother, Margaret Graham, who passed away this year.
“For me, it was a tribute and representing my way of giving thanks. There is a thing about life we must die at some point and I feel I have reached a point in my life [where] I have accepted that everybody has to go,” he said.
When asked what keeps him motivated and passionate about his career he said, “Life itself, people, the struggles.”
His songs, he said, are based on reality, life and his and other people’s struggles.
Expressing confidence that he will go as far as his career takes him, he stated: “I cannot predict the future, but what I know for now is that I am going to continue working hard,”
Although most of his songs are Dancehall, Colton T made it clear that he loves Bouyon music.
“I love Bouyon music as well and that is what we are known for,” he stated. “That’s what makes my story great. I have been working hard and I am determined,” he said.
The artiste is known for his songs ‘IceCream Man’, ‘Bomb in the City’, ‘Everything and More’, ‘Lose it, ‘Friends and Benefits’, ‘Special’ and ‘Role Model’, to name a few.
The other performing acts were Dynasty, Patrice &Tian Winter, WCK, Davido and Bouyon boss, Asa Banton.
Mr Colton please don’t listen to haters, sing the music your hearts desire and boyoun haven’t got international appeal. Some of the artist net to be more creative musicaly lyricaly it all starting to sound alike.
I don’t think u should venture in this bouyon Ting stick to what u r doing presently my advise is incoparate some roots reggae in ur recording I think u got the voice for that rude -boi make ur research an u will c how far reggae/dancehall reaches across the world
For this wannabe artist to say that bouyon is what the island is known for,is total disrespect to the Melodious and Harmonious Cadence Music!!! This man has no good message and his lyrics are just pure pit-latrine dump! Not to mention the music which is lacking melody and harmony! If it was for modern technology of programming, this man would be nowhere near music!!!
It’s people like alu that like to discourage young people from pursuing their dreams lnegativity alone some of alu worth smh…….To all the young Dominican artists keep working hard don’t listen to criticism from ppl that not doing anything and not looking for the good of others
Col T doe worry with Mr. You’re one of the best artists in dominica. Dominicans like to bring you down because it seems like is bouyon aloneeee they want our local artists to sing. But if it was an outside artist singing ur sameee songs, they would support! But keep going Col-T. I’m a huge fan! See you at Bomb in the City! And don’t change your style for none of them hypocrites! I for one appreciate you and I know that there are many other dominicans who appreciate you as well! One love babes!
Great job man, love your style of music,Keep working hard, you will be on the International stage soon. All the best man,am sure your mom is smiling and keeping watch over you.
