Sometime ago Prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit declared that we do not need/want an Oppossition in this Country.
Reginald Austrie(senior minister?) called for the disappearance of Lennox Linton.
The Labour Party and it’s surrogates, under the direction of controllers like Anthony Astaphan and Hartley Henry, have spent substantial resources of time and money trying to demonise LL and the Opposition.
Skerrit has urged his supporters to throw hot water on Lennox Linton and the Opposition and go up to their faces and call them Traitors.
The current Attorney General has called for the assassination of the leadership of the entire Opposition.
Lennox Linton and several members of the Opposition are being persecuted by the Labour party government for four years now on bogus and trumped up charges of incitement.
In all of this, there has not been one word of condemnation or concern from our regional leaders, the Bishop, the DAIC/DEF, the bar association or any of those who are quick to ‘take a knee’ when it suits them.
It is a measure of the resilience, tenacity and commitment to country of Lennox Linton and the Opposition, that they have continued to make available to Dominicans their expertise, knowledge and experience to assist in the national development effort.
No less a person than the Prime Minister has publicly acknowledged the value of Lennox Linton and the Opposition specifically with regard to post tropical Storm Erica restoration work, quote “ I have been ably supported in the endeavour by Leader of the Opposition Lennox Linton and other opposition parliamentarians.
I was very impressed and satisfied with the overall sense of purpose and commitment of all parliamentarians particularly the leader of the opposition Hon. Lennox Linton, who has been most constructive in his interventions.”
The list is long of the many ‘constructive interventions’ of Hon Lennox Linton and his colleagues. These include:-
Advising government to use CBI money to fund the construction of the Marigot hospital instead of waiting forever on the Mexicans;
He advised that a stimulus/compensation package be made available to Dominicans in light of losses due to Covid-19;
As far back as last year Lennox Linton noted that we should provide for at least 500 beds to accommodate covid patients;
Lennox Linton and the Opposition pushed back and forced government to change its plans to close the fresh market two Fridays ago;
It was the intervention of LL which saved Dominicans from a 24 hour blanket lock down which would have caused great inconvenience and hardship;
Advice was given to government to embark upon a comprehensive programme to equip Dominicans with appropriate skills in the construction field to ensure their full participation in reconstruction after hurricane Maria. Sadly this advice was ignored. But now Francine Baron is declaring that foreigners must be hired because of a lack of skills among local Dominicans;
Lennox Linton urged government to make use of materials(sand/stone/lumber) exposed by Erica and Maria to stimulate activity in the construction sector through their appropriate and strategic utilization. His urgings fell on deaf ears!
It was Lennox Linton who advised that a consent order be executed among the parties involved in the Choksi matter to allow the gentleman to return to his adopted country. This advice was resisted for an entire month before the Authorities buckled under pressure;
For years Lennox Linton called on the Skerrit Administration to introduce Fiscal Responsibility legislation. They resisted until forced on them by the rest of the region. They messed up in their attempt to implement same because of their refusal to seek or take advice from the Opposition;
Skerrit has been advised by the Leader of the Opposition that his plan to extend the curfew beyond 24th August without parliamentary approval is unconstitutional and illegal. It is hoped that this advice will be heeded and that a meeting of parliament will be summoned without delay.
The ‘no law, no constitution’ syndrome must not prevail!
This government is making a mess of managing the current Covid crisis. They must acknowledge this and seek help. That help is available from the Parliamentary Opposition.
As a first step, there must be an acceptance that members of this government are direct contributors to the present Covid crisis. It started with Skerrit himself. He should apologise to the nation for his grave disservice to country.
Dominicans, the time has long past when we must reject the campaign of hatred against Lennox Linton and the parliamentary Opposition being waged by Skerrit, Astaphan and the cabal on Kairi fm.
Let us instead recognize and appreciate the tremendous Value of Lennox Linton and the parliamentary opposition in protecting our democracy, keeping us safe and preparing our country for eventual economic development.

The advice above that Ulric says that Linton “gave” to Skerrit is rather simplistic, obvious, and elementary. Linton likes to provide armchair “advice” but all he is doing is uttering banalities. If I see some workers starting to build a house and I say to them that they need to first dig the foundation, they are not going to tell me that I gave them good advice. Because everyone knows that you cannot build a house without digging into the ground to build the foundation. So Linton just says the obvious. I am afraid that if Linton ever gets in power he will never leave. You want to see corruption? Wait until Linton is PM.

If holding the ruling party was an Olympic sport then Lennox Linton would be the crowned champion and undidputed gold medalist.
Unfortunately for Mr. Linton he is head of the opposition in the very real arena of national politics. As such, much more is required to propel him to the role of Prime Minister.
There are valid reasons why Mr. Linton has been resigned to the role of political “seconnd fiddle”. I believe he is a good, patriotic man; however, his leadership tool kit is less than full.

When the RSS came down to tear gas people, it showed he had no friends regionally, a telling sign of a weak networker- how is he going to find foreign investors when the UWP leader in St Lucia sending down troops Dca?
Nobody ever pondered why isn’t Lennox in links with regional aligned parties? But then again Lennox doesn’t even link up with his own candidates to campaign. A leader of a party trying to win elections did at least 10 meetings in Marigot, a sure seat.

One week before elections UWP was in the running. But the AL Jazeera bombshell collapsed all hope. It was the final nail in the coffin.
I find this commentary to be eye-opening and informative. There will be those who question the level of participation by the opposition, these are the same people who do not understand that the resources of the state is in the hands of the one who leads the government, therefore whatever schemes or nefarious undertakings that they want to carry out they can. In short they control the money. The opposition is necessary to give a voice and a different viewpoint to the escapades of the ruling party. The opposition is necessary to present checks and balances to the whims of the leadership. Most importantly, the opposition is necessary because OUR CONSTITUTION DEMANDS that there be an opposition. Dominica is a democratic nation and therefore a strong and active opposition is necessary to keep the Skerrit Labour Government in check especially with regard to violations of law and Constitution and corrupt practices.. What a weak commentary. You mentioned a lot of “SMALL STUFF” that doesn’t resonate with voters you’re trying to win over. I now realize why the opposition has difficulty winning an election. The opposition has to do a better job if they’re going to give themselves any chance of winning. I believe if it wasn’t for the UWP and Lennox and members of the shadow cabinet that our country would be already a fully blown dictatorship with even more police oppression by Skerrits Militia. Now the country needs an independent audit of the CBI accounts, a thorough examination of the ‘social housing’ accounts incl. issues of non tendering and costing of same and an independent audit of the travel and expense accounts of the PM. The one thing that keeps Skerrit in power is the Red Clinic and other schemes disguised as social efforts and affords him to conduct elections in an unfair manner, is MONEY. The questions that arise, where do these vast amounts of monies originate from: CBI, international Donations, public money from the treasury…? The country needs answers and the answers MUST to be supported by bulletproof accounts not just say so of the PM. The country also needs to be told what the criteria of allocation is as far as the ‘housing program’ is concerned.

Anything slanting towards Lennox Linton is well written. Where was Lennox Linton after hurricane Maria? We have come a long way under the firm leadership of Roosevelt Skerrit. The building of this beautiful hospital building in Marigot was all Skerrit’s vision, so is the Princess Margaret Hospital in Roseau. And so will be the expansion and reconstruction of the Portsmouth General Hospital. I have no doubt in my mind that when the Marigot Hospital is all done and functional, the Skerrit Administration will then focus on building a similar Hospital this time with 100 beds in Grandbay to serve the South and one in La Plaine to serve the East. For a country that has made tremendous strides in its development under the Leadership of Skerrit and to utter all this nonsense and garbage that if it was not for Lennox Linton, makes me wonder. Before dealing with your hospital extravaganza story, I’ll say this. The most important factor to look at in assessing the economic situation in any country is the living standards of the majority of residents.
Are most people better off today than 10 or even 5 years ago? The answer is a resounding NO. With unemployment ballooning; poverty spreading and hunger is a constant companion of thousands, all this happening while the election kleptomaniac and his wife cost the treasury approximately $ 90 000 per month.
