COMMUNITY REPORT: Wakama Road in Castle Bruce repaired

A concrete drain has been put in the road surface

The Wakama Road in Castle Bruce has been repaired.

The road became the subject of some concern to residents of that community when a crack appeared in the middle of its new surface. The road had been resurfaced just four weeks before.

Residents told Dominica News Online (DNO) that they were particularly concerned about a drain which had previously diverted water from the road surface but which had been condemned during the resurfacing operation.

When contacted by DNO, the contractor, Jacques Gaddakhan, gave the assurance that measures would be taken to remedy the situation.

DNO can confirm that the drain in question has been restored and the crack in the road has been repaired.

Wow talk about being the first Climate resistant country. I think Double doctor just firing words in the air without finding the meaning of words that he uses. My 15 year old son would do a better job. I feel sorry for the ones driving on these horrible roads in Dominica đŸ˜„

If there were proper checks and balances in place (accountability & transparency) the country would have known the cost to resurface then repair this road. Was this contract tendered for so government might have saved some scarce dollars? There is zero transparency and accountability with this government. Corruption runs amok. Presently in Haiti, the people are calling for the resignation of their president. They have alleged that his government corruptly used the billions of PetroCaribe money. In Dominica, EC $270 000 000+ PetroCaribe money is unaccounted for and the people are graveyard silent. Where are the journalists, the media, the private sector, the clergy. Where is everybody? When good people remain silent when carnage is happening all around them, badness flourishes. Are people just too afraid to speak out?

Thats the problem. The majority of that lot are in his pocket and the ones that are not are afraid! No civil courage no more. Dominica is a failed society driven by the money of a despot.

This is a government that embraces mediocrity. The pillars of this nation are crumpling:
*ECONOMY: as dead as a cadaver
*HEALTH: hospitals and health centres mold infested and decaying
*EDUCATION: physical plants dilapidated and acutely short on resources
*INFRASTRUCTURE: network of roads and bridges woefully inadequate and some you drive on at your own risk
*NATIONAL SECURITY: should be referred to as National Insecurity
*MORALITY: is a bad word in government
The present cabal has traumatized and pauperized the country for twenty looong years. Show them the EXIT DOOR on Election Day. No more damn chance for them.

Omg.. looking at this comestic repair, I have to question these engineers (or engine fars as i would call them) credentials. I am no engineer myself but that’s just madness. Why would you want to put a concrete drain in the middle of a road? Wouldn’t it be wiser to construct a drain on the road side and place a culvert under to allow for proper drainage? Why repair asphalt with concrete works? Madness, pure madness

U right asphalt and concrete dont tag

Looks familiar people? I have one word, Antrim!

You are correct, it does have shades of Antrim. Both relate to the same contractor, cost cutting expediency and flawed engineering practice.

The blunder at Antrim has created a virtual insolvable problem. The recent resurfacing of the road is a short term respite and the blockage of the slipper drain in the vicinity of the fault line by the new DAWASCO pipeline – in the circumstances, a blunder that beggars belief – will result in more water related earth movement.

I see poor or no substantial sub-surface. I see boulders and gravel on the road surface itself. I see a drain cut across the road surface. There are no guardrails whatsoever. Illumination is a fiction of one’s imagination and of course, why should ever construct any roads that are straight. The cardinal sin is proper engineered roads on island. Then again, when elections are near and the polls have you losing, all cards and vote catching schemes must be enacted.

Do we need pretenses? The Labor Party under Honorable Skerrit is noticing that Dominicans are not stupid. They gave Labor a long chance now we will retire them. I would like to believe that we have room for Hon. Drigo since Hon. Skerrit has dispatched him most unceremoniously. Tell your remaining supporters to vote UWP. A change is coming. Castle Bruce constituency is know by giving chances. Labor it is time to go.

No we dont want nonsense back in power. Is not charity we giving. Drigo did nothing for Castle Bruce or Agriculture.

Unless proper drains are built at the verge of the road this will just be a cosmetic repair I believe and will not last long.

What is this, the 1950’s? Drain on road surface? cut a proper drain on the side, dig out that cliff side to widen the road, place culvert piping UNDER the road so water will not run on top of it and wear it out, install road signs to indicate a dangerous corner, or better yet just dig out that cliff side there that going to become a landslide with the next few rainfalls and straighten out the road so traffic and flow faster. Travel around the island can be cut in half if these so called people in authority would dig tunnels and build bridges to connect roads and make proper bypasses.

There is no drainage base on the picture on the bank-side therefore this will happen again very quickly.
This is a quick fixed which is clearly a vivid reflection of this DLP GOVT in power.

No long term initiatives for sustainable development!!!!!..SMDH.

We will see how long this patch up will last. No proper engineering done on any of this projects. Just slap dash for a lot of money, quickly done to make election dead line but the road won’t last 6 month after election! That’s how Skerrit does things.

I wish the government would repair the other roads on the island in such haste. This looks to me like a political stunt, not that it was not necessary. But if these guys were as committed to maintaining the roads as they did that one, the country would be much better off.

The road is not repaired. They only cut off the part that was cracking from the wall as you can see in the picture. As of present it is still cut out and not filled in as yet.

the part that is shown in the picture as being repaired is a little further away from the actual area where it was cracked. these people think they can fool everyone but this is my village and I pass this road all the time. the part that is cracked by the wall is where needed to be repaired. not the drain they so eagerly put there to make people think it repaired.

no guard rails? no gutters? no side walk? no street light? This road with all its corners looks dangerous. Especially at night. The road doesnt look at all finished? Is the work still ongoing? 1/3 of it looks like tarish. the other 2/3 is asphalt ant concrete. In dominica, do we have any standards for road construction or repair? or do we leave it up to the guys doing to work to figure it out as they go along? Where are our engineers? it is it our engineers who are providing such sub par work on the people’s behalf? IS this what is have been paying road taxes for?
