‘Consistency is key’ says newly crowned Miss Teen Dominica, Kenisha Antoine

Newly crowned Miss Teen Dominica, Kenisha Antoine believes that her consistency throughout the five-round judge competition is what ultimately led to her victory in capturing the 2023 crown.

The sixteen-year-old created history for the Castle Bruce Secondary School (CBSS) by becoming the first to bring the crown to the educational institution. She won the competition at the Windsor Park Forecourt on February 12, 2023, by defeating four other contestants.

When the results were read after the nearly five-hour-long competition the sixteen-year-old, who captured the award for best in talent, had beaten Jharrissia Gage of the Convent High School (CHS).

Gage, in first place, took home the awards for best speech, spectacular wear, best in spectacular wear, best evening wear, and best in evening wear.

Antoine also surpassed Shervez Seaman, of the Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS),  who captured the best response to question, and Miss Amity, rounding up at second place.

The show, which many viewers had previously regarded to be “the best one yet,” then took a slight turn for the worse when enraged spectators hurled bottles and other objects onto the stage.

After the chaos subsided, Antonie returned to the stage flanked by security.

She spoke with Dominica News Online (DNO), saying, “I understand why many may be disappointed because you have all the awards going to the other contestants, but I was consistent throughout the entire competition and as the saying goes consistency is key.”

The teen admitted that she was also taken aback when the results were announced. Yet she asserts that the victory was a testament to all of her weeks of hard work and preparation.

“I feel so ecstatic,” stated Antoine who has her eyes set on the Miss Dominica pageant.

“I would like to thank God for this opportunity and for bringing me where he has thus far. Also, I would like to thank my teachers and my main chaperone for making this all possible as well as my family members, sponsors, and everyone else who has supported me,” she added.

The Castle Bruce native, who aspires to follow in her mother’s footsteps by becoming an entrepreneur in the fashion industry, used the chance to encourage other teenagers to enter the competition since she claims it will boost their self-confidence while showcasing their abilities.

The other competitors were Mia Williams of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School (ITSS) who captured the Miss Photogenic award and Shian Sylvester of the Dominica Grammar School (DGS).

As of the time of publication, attempts made to speak to the first and second runners-up have been unfruitful.

To all teen pageant participant congratulations, Dominica and the rest of the world greatly appreciated your effort to represent the beautiful island of Dominica in a special platform.

BIG ISSUES / CONCERN with the Judges/ Examiners,
This show is watched all over the world and I watched the teen show from USA; however, the winner was “NOT” correctly selected based on the performance of the contestants. As such, the judges/examiners “Discredited and Dishonor” the teen show with their Miss Teen selection. The young lady from CHS was clearly the “WINNER” of this year’s Teen pageant based on her consistency. She WON majorities of the events and she also presented an extremely “MEANINGFUL” talent round that sent a strong message to all the teens around the World that you can overcome any challenges in life truly “HURT” Dominican fans across the world. So, to deny CHS contestant of her title as the clear “WINNER” based on judges/examiners prejudice is disheartening to your fans.

Consistency does plan a major difference. This could be examined similar to examinations. A student may score high in a few subjects [ the best at the particular subjects] but may edge out another student by a very very minor margin. The other student may not receive any award for the best [higest mark] at a particular subject, but if that student scores consistently high marks [just after those who emerge as best at the paricular subjects], he/she could well emerge as having the highest aggregate, and thus emerges as the WINNER [FIRST PLACED] student.

NOTE: One who emerges as the ‘best’ in a few categories, may well do ‘poorly’ in others, whilst the CONSISTENT participant will be consistenly receiving high marks / points though not the highest in any subject / area! I hope this explaine why CONSISTENTCY matters!!!

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 6 Thumb down 5
