Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that in the next few months, there is a possibility of building a new hospital in the Marigot Health District.
In an interview with DBS Radio the Prime Minister stated that the Minister of Health will go to Margiot on Friday to visit the site.
“We are looking at the possibility of starting the Marigot Hospital with some of our own funds while we work with the government of Mexico and the funds they have assigned to us because I’m concerned about the schedule that has been submitted to the government by The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS),” he said.
The prime minister added that the minister for health, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, along with his technical team, will be going to Marigot on Friday to visit the site with the team that’s being proposed to construct the hospital, “so that we can determine a more short-circuited approach to the realization of this commitment for the Marigot Health District.”
He continued, “Once they return back to me I will be in position to say and of course further consultation with the developer when we can in fact commence construction, but certainly we would like to commence construction in the next few months for the new Marigot Hospital and possibly we will use the funds from the Mexican government to build the Health Centre in Marigot or to equip the new Marigot Hospital that will build under a different dispensation.”
Opposition leader and parliamentary representative for the Marigot constituency, Lennox Linton, has in the past, called on the government to use some of the “significant amount” of revenue made from the Citizenship (CBI) by Investment Programme to build the Marigot hospital.
He suggested then, that the government find the 20 million dollars required to built the hospital from 1.1 billion EC dollars which he said the country had received from the CBI “in the last three financial years.”
In his statement on DBS, Skerrit also mentioned that the contract signing for the construction of over 10 new health centres across Dominica will done in the next couple of weeks.
“We’re looking at a rolling out signing of contracts for about between 10 and 12 health centers in Dominica and we’ll have a new health center in Penville, Vieille Casse, Anse Demai, Bellevue Chopin, Colihaut, Soufriere, Westly, Coulibistie, Mahaut, Newtown and there a few other areas,” he stated.
He said these health centres will include adequate space, doctors & nurses offices, examination rooms and attachment of residence to accommodate district nurses.

We all know that the need for the health facility has been in existence for the last five years. They all agreed that funds from the Mexican government would finance it.
What new evidence will the visit produce?

That speaks volume people. Why should so many villages need a NEW health center after 20 yrs of DLP and is only now, on an eve of an election Roosevelt Skerrit is talking about signing contracts? Doesn’t that confirm that he is not concerned about us and our wellbeing as long as he gets our vote?
But see the two villages on top of his list Penville and Vielle case. In the last three elections over 85% of Penville people voted for Skerrit and after 15 years you didn’t even take care of their health center? Your own village of Vielle Case, where you have your mansion you allowed our health Center to fall man? Yet you found money to pay JI to cross and enough to pay 13 new candidates?

Now that Skerrit is eyeing Caressa to go up for DLP and want to give him some thing to talk about, he is promising to build Marigot Health Centre. Isn’t that pure WICKEDNESS, to have an entire group of communities deprived of necessary health Care? They have ridiculed the NURSES who have been protesting for weeks, advocating for years, about conditions of work, lack of medicines etc. These DLP politicians are too Mischievous having denied the citizens proper health Care.
I note the areas where those clinics are proposes and I have concluded that those areas are areas where labor feels threatened and seem sure to lose so Skerritt is trying to fool/bribe them with facilities that are long over due. Do you have the money for those facilities? Is the contract signing going to be a photo opp like you had when you paraded contractors in Morne Jaune to make yourself look good and one year on not even foundations have been dug? If you do not have money to lay one block for Marigot hospital where is the money for those clinics coming from? Are they going to be modern facilities or plywood 10’×12′ huts. So, he was reminded that the Dominica Freedom had also selected a site; he said if he builds it on the DFP site, it will become Eugenia Charles Airport.
Bu; hear this: if he is allowed to build it where he proposed, even taking up where your house, and that of your late parents, it will still become Edison James Airport, because that location was also proposed by the UWP, until it was discovered that’s a bad location!

According to Skerrit himself, ‘if Dominica was a real country’ there would be a massive lawsuit from every single family from the Northeast that lost a love one due to the closure of the Marigot hospital. But we not real. As for the people of Marigot, although I want to sympathise with them but it’s even hard for me because I cannot understand how people from such an educated village vote for Skerrit. Man honestly speaking Skerrit should not be able to find a candidate from Marigot, to run for him and to me, anyone from Marigot that accepts money to run for Skerrit, is guilty of treason against his / her own blood. Marigot people should force Skerrit to find someone from either Portsmouth, Grandbay or Vielle Case to run in Marigot for him and that person should not get a single vote when the results are out.
