$10,000 for marijuana

Wayne George of Wotten Waven pleaded guilty on Thursday morning of possession of marijuana and was ordered to pay $2,000 by September 11 or spend six months in prison

He will also pay $8,000 by the end of September or spend seven months behind bars on the charge of possession of marijuana with intent to supply. The sentences will run concurrently.

Magistrate Evalina Baptist presided over the proceedings.

According to the facts of the matter, police were patrolling the Fond Baron area on April 14 and intercepted a car with two male occupants. The authorities performed a search and a white plastic bag containing 1,389 grams of cannabis was found on the floor of the car.

When questioned about the content, George responded, “My marijuana for me to smoke I have there.”

Police estimated the substance to have a street value of $3,059.

Before sentencing, Magistrate Baptist heard from defense counsel Peter Alleyne who pleased for leniency. Alleyne pointed out that the defendant  was a vegetable farmer in Wotten Waven, gave no problems to the police and had two young children.

The defendant was convicted for a similar offence seven years ago.

What for the stupid people they call cops to see, they do not see, they have people driving drunk, DA has the most alcohol bars in the Caribbean, a set of old untidy rum shops, with no toilet facilities causing people to drink alcohol. THEY SHOULD BAN ALCHOLOL IN THIS PLACE, and the police should stop drininking rum by the court house, when you in court they want you to kneel as if it is church you are , and call the court HONOURABLE, and yet they (police) drinking booze by the said Honourable court, what double standard is that? they want to hold people for stupidness, but when you call them for real emergencies they do not come., they never have transport.

There brains are in their a$$, I think DA, have the most stupid cops in the world, all they can look for too, is for license, and insurance and give tickets, whilst the most of the roads in DA, have holes like the size of swimming pools.

And they just recruiting a set of more damn a@@ess, “so called police here”, they do not patrol the streets at nights, all the “police” in DA do is sleep, drink alcohol and run women, we need to have more security at nights,,,, and to irridicate the murders, thiefs in our society.

Put the man in prison and deny his children his support or charge him $10000.00 doesn’t solve any problem and creates more problems. It’s a senseless sentence in today’s world. While Dominicans are being locked up for marijuana its available in pharmacy’s in the USA some states possession of up to an ounce without a medical permit is less than a misdemeanor like a traffic ticket. Somebody in Dominica must be dumb.

There are some worrying aspects here in Dominica why is it a 14 years old school boy can find the marijuana dealer, but the police can’t find them or choose not, in my village of st joseph at the back street the kids openly smoke marijunana, the so call the police task force drives pass without saying a thing. up the morne a young 20 year boy sells the drug, one can see young boys going in and out of the house and no one cares, given the health risked posed by the abuse of drugs, the government should tighten the net on unscrupulous drug dealer by seizing their assets.

I agree, lets start a serious movement to lobby and pressure politicians to do the sensible thing and at least decriminalize marijuana. It ‘s costing the Gov’t to incacerate and feed people for these periods of time spent in the prison. Marijuana is not creating problems in Dominica, the percecution of marijuana is like throwing money at the wind.

Does the Gov’t have money, or not? This decade has seen a serious influx of cocaine and crack of great magnitude on out streets. Now that’s a serious problem to spend money and law enforcement on. Dominica is known as a gateway for South American catel shipments of serious amounts of coke to other parts of the world. But, since law enforcement is concentrated towards the percecution of Marijuana, they have rendered themselves ineffective in finding or busting coke. But who am I…(don’t answer that)…they won’t listen to me. And they should take heed, this is serious;;;need I say serious one more time? I didn’t think so either.

I do not use marijuana but your response is idiotic. Marijuana does not blow anybody’s mind. Mark My words it is just a matter of time before marijuana like alcohol is legalized with the same restriction like does imposed on alcohol. You should not be drunk on the job so therefore you should not be high on the job either, but on your own time you should be free to do as you please.

    For a medicinal plant?

Thank you almighty GOD for this tree, it is unfortunate that my brothers and sisters in the system prefer the money rather than the spiritual gifts it brings. I pray for its abusers and mis-users, they know not what they do.

Jail a man for a plant you created for us to benefit from all whilst taking food from the mouths of his 2 children. Have mercy on them all for they know not what they do.

I shall light a candle for this judge, with as many hearts as she has hardened because of this plant, she deserves a special prayer, for she works tirelessly at enslaving the black man for the old colonial system still in place. Please forgive er O Lord.

If people live by the Law they will not get into this and other types of trouble with the Law. Those who do not live by the Law stand a good chance of being caught and therefore have to pay for the consequences of their action.
By your words you have gravely sinned against God! Your words have given you away. This is including those who gave you thumbs up which you do not deserve. You deserve thumbs down but based on their mentality and godlessness, they gave you credence.
This is the problem with some of people. When others comment wisely, some of them will give thumbs down as if they have no sense in their heads.
Do not use God’s name in vain and for a plant which is highly dangerous to the health and also to the young children.

The First Commandment of God is: I Am the Lord Thy God; Thou Shalt Not Have Strange God’s
      Before Me.
The Second Commandment is: Thou Shalt Not Take The Name of The Lord Thy God in vain.

There are good plants and bad/evil ones just as edible food and fruits and non-edible ones. There are docile animals and non-docile ones; those which are edible and which are not. Are you going to question God about them and why He created them and allowed them on this earth?
Marijuana may have its purpose and even health purposes but it is abused and sold on the market for an exorbitant price. The growers know this very well.
The man knew why he grew the marijuana. He is a vegetable grower? What type of vegetable grower is he? Some of them use vegetables to hide their illegal drug-growing and selling.
He should have known better. He has children to feed and so he should be more responsible. He will obviously not be charged for growing vegetables for them to eat which is healthy for them.
Excessive use of marijuana smoked is unhealthy. Surely, he was not growing it mainly for his personal use, to smoke. Who is he deceiving?
It does not matter whether it is legal in certain other countries and that they allow it. I would think that if the growers trade in it without government’s knowledge and do not report the funds, if the government finds out, they will be charged. Conditions are set for growing it and selling it. There are still those who will try to do so illegally.
There are other countries which disallow it. These are correct and for good reasons.
Do not waste your time to light a candle for this judge. It is not lighted in godliness and in good faith. God is displeased with you based on your reasons for doing so.
I would advise you to “Think God” when you make such comments will later return to haunt you and comments condemn you. You are not a smart person and lack spiritual enlightenment.

Cannabis is the world’s oldest known medicine.

The medical use of cannabis dates back to 2000 B.C.

For 4,000 years it was the most commonly prescribed pain reliever.

Cannabis is less toxic than aspirin, and less addictive than coffee.

Natural medicine created by GOD for our use. (Genesis 1:29-31)

In 1978, the federal government established the Compassionate Use Program which provides 300 cannabis cigarettes per month to sick and dying patients.

In 2003, Patent #6630507 “Cannabis as Antioxidants and neuroprotectants” was awarded to the
Department of Health and Human Services.

In 2006, The national Institute of Health released “The Endocannabinoid System as an Emerging Target of Pharmacotherapy”. The Report states that cannabis is effective in treating “mood and anxiety disorders, movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease, neuropathic pain, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury, to cancer, atherosclerosis, myocardial infraction, stroke, hypertension, glaucoma, obesity/metabolic syndrome as well as osteoporosis, just to name a small yet significant few…

Who stands to benefit most from cannabis prohibition?…..The Pharmaceutical Industry. That’s who!
In 2006, US Pharmaceutical industry revenues were ~289 billion.

Over 7million Americans are abusing prescription drugs each year.
Over 750,000 Americans die each year from prescription drug abuse.

24 million American’s smoke Cannabis each year; 0 die each year from cannabis abuse.

The Pharmaceutical Lobby holds 27 patents of the medicinal use of cannabis. They use these patents to restrict its use and to ensure their profits.

Many people have died because of marijuana. Those on a high go doing things they would not do normally. Look at the amount of fellas that are killing fellas and other innocent people because of marijuana I dont know which makes them wilder, when they desparate for a spliff or when they have had one, or when they are flogging it on the streets.
