Argument over $2 led to St Joseph shooting; one in custody

police do not cross

An alleged argument over $2 has led to a shooting incident in St. Joseph in which a number of people were injured.

One bus driver is in police custody following the incident.

Police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, said the shooting occurred at about 7:00 pm on July 8.

He said Laken Charles, 24, of St. Joseph was shot in his neck and abdomen during the alleged argument.

Evalina Baptiste, 49, also of the community, who was sitting on her step in the vicinity of the shooting, was shot in both arms.

Another person, Barry Serrant who was standing nearby, was struck by a projectile which ricocheted of an adjacent wall leaving a hematoma on his buttocks, Carbon said.

All three individuals were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital where they were treated.

Barry was discharged while Charles and Baptiste were admitted.

Investigations are continuing, Carbon stated.

Your brains are the ones that are underdeveloped. Not mine. I am a disciplined, law-abiding person. I uphold the Law. I am not a radical. Sensible and law-abiding people know, under no circumstances: “Thou Shalt Not Steal.” It is the Commandment of God. It is a grievous/mortal sin to disobey God and violate his Commandment. People can go to Hell for committing one mortal sin.
Therefore, who are you to make such statements? That is the problem in this era of some people who have computers. They do not know how to communicate with people. They never knew prior to having a computer and they will never learn.
If everyone in the world, no exception Dominica, who is unemployed went about and steal from others, what unruly nationals would exist. Anyone who upholds crime lacks patriotism. They should also be arrested. They are not loyal nationals.
Since you are defending this man and others who are unemployed and who steal, you should seek them out and financially assist them. You should also counsel them to do something beneficial for themselves and not use guns against their fellow people and for $2.00 at that. It is a crying shame!
People cannot blame the government for their predicament. To begin with, if they are doing so, they should be asked how did they happen to be in this predicament?
Why blame the government when everyone had an opportunity to attend school and to secure a future for themselves?
In addition, those people are baptized Christians and no doubt were practicing ones. As they grew older, due to their lifestyle, they took an opposite path. Today, they are blaming everyone but themselves.
They are fortunate they are receiving some money from the government. It is time the government makes them perform some community work for the money they are receiving.
St. Paul said, “Everyone should work. If they do not work they should not eat.” It is in the Bible!
I have an idea, a suggestion to offer how this could be done and achieved that people work. They are happy getting the money. If they are abled people they should work. I will wait after election of 2015.

Some people can find themselves in trouble. Imagine shooting at people. His aim was to kill that person he directed his gun at. The reason for this is over $2.00. If I recall, this is not the first time, probably not in D/ca, that this occurred.
Hope the gun is licensed for additional charges will be slapped on him. The gun is now evidence. The police authorities should confiscate it for good since he carelessly used it. He does not deserve to have a gun.
For that minute amount, he almost killed a few people. It is bad enough that they were severely injured. I hope they will recover in time especially those who were admitted to the hospital. This means their injuries are serious. God be with you and heal you.
As it is said, “Temper is such a good thing, you should not lose it.” People will get angry but as St. Paul said, “Do not let the sun go down on your anger.” This also means, do not let your anger take hold of your entire being to the extent of taking a gun and shooting at people and some innocent ones who were not involved in your situation.
For $2.00 he will pay a dear price for what he has done. Add up the cost and all those $2.00, they will amount to some thousands of dollars.
I hope he regrets what he did and that the Court will deal with them as he deserves. Hope he does not plead not guilty and state the devil made him do it. It would be a flimsy excuse which no Court will accept. It may be somewhat true and what he did is a serious matter but this would be laughable..

There were three people who were shot isn’t that too many. Do we have to continue business as usual! Did I touch a nerve when I said clean up back street and will continue to advocate that sentiment. I will continue to advocate against the drug lords. Yes, by a certain time you guys take over. The innocent people who were shot in their yard were dogs. Then, as they grow older they will blame the government and say there are no jobs. We want jobs when they had a golden opportunity to study and gave it up for ingesting those drugs. Some people really do not know and want what is good for them.

I would wish for once both Labour and Workers would have the belly, stop fighting party politics and put country 1st… address the youth and the drug problems thats about to be the end of our lost young men . the name calling the personal attack games that these polittions are playing is sad, cold disgracful , tasteless and damn right disgusting…. it is all personally for themsee which pockets will get fatter and deeper,,,,, in my sci fi head, my ultimate prediction would be,,, when the ballots are counted, a totally new party with strictly foreign people with money of their own would surface as the winner!!!…

We must urgently seek ways to resolve conflicts on this island, too many guns are out there and we are hearing of shooting too often. In the past three weeks there have been three incidents, Mahaut, Pottersville and now St Joseph, this must come to a halt. All I am saying is “GIVE PEACE A CHANCE”

How will this be achieved? It appears that some people are far gone and there is no turning back for them.
If only D/ca had a rehabilitation center to assist them and to become useful nationals also for their benefit.

Sad, isn’t it? Dominica was not like this some years ago. I lived in D/ca in that era. Those were good old, happy, safe and relatively peaceful days. This is not to say there were no criminals. We called them petty criminals.
A murder occurred once in approximately 10 years and it had nothing to do with theft and illegal drugs but domestic problems. Actually they were about personal matters.
Once when I was a student, a man’s girlfriend was migrating to England. He found out and he killed her in Roseau; not with a gun. Some years later, another nice lady whom I knew was also migrating to England. She met the same fate from her boyfriend.; not with a gun Nationals of Roseau, Dominica for that matter were in shock and mourning. Some years later another occurred out of town. After that none occurred that I can recall.
As people become godless and inconsiderate of others, this will occur. The authorities must put their heads together and develop a strategy on how to help people from getting themselves involved in an argument and using their guns. This also includes those who who steal. They need to change; to take an anger management course. Otherwise the situation in D/ca will become worse. It is already bad enough.

Wild west, what is Dominica coming to. Everyone make cover up for criminals, but sooner or later it is going to affect us all. Dominica has a handful of people and if this trend continues, the next ten years, tell me what population we are going to have, and we all will b living in fear. Dominica, call on the name of the Lord, before it is too late.

Prayers are needed; fervent, humble prayers. Genuine worship and love for one another with no exception that God will answer those prayers. People need the Lord.
It is not love to harm others in anyway, whether in words and physically. When everyone practices them, be it three quarter of the country or more, then there will be a change of hearts and crimes will decrease. There is no other way.
The Catholic Radio is on. Expect that. Many inspirations are received.
