An alleged argument over $2 has led to a shooting incident in St. Joseph in which a number of people were injured.
One bus driver is in police custody following the incident.
Police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, said the shooting occurred at about 7:00 pm on July 8.
He said Laken Charles, 24, of St. Joseph was shot in his neck and abdomen during the alleged argument.
Evalina Baptiste, 49, also of the community, who was sitting on her step in the vicinity of the shooting, was shot in both arms.
Another person, Barry Serrant who was standing nearby, was struck by a projectile which ricocheted of an adjacent wall leaving a hematoma on his buttocks, Carbon said.
All three individuals were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital where they were treated.
Barry was discharged while Charles and Baptiste were admitted.
Investigations are continuing, Carbon stated.

Your brains are the ones that are underdeveloped. Not mine. I am a disciplined, law-abiding person. I uphold the Law. I am not a radical. Sensible and law-abiding people know, under no circumstances: “Thou Shalt Not Steal.” It is the Commandment of God. It is a grievous/mortal sin to disobey God and violate his Commandment. People can go to Hell for committing one mortal sin.
Therefore, who are you to make such statements? That is the problem in this era of some people who have computers. They do not know how to communicate with people. They never knew prior to having a computer and they will never learn.
If everyone in the world, no exception Dominica, who is unemployed went about and steal from others, what unruly nationals would exist. Anyone who upholds crime lacks patriotism. They should also be arrested. They are not loyal nationals.
Since you are defending this man and others who are unemployed and who steal, you should seek them out and financially assist them. You should also counsel them to do something beneficial for themselves and not use guns against their fellow people and for $2.00 at that. It is a crying shame!
People cannot blame the government for their predicament. To begin with, if they are doing so, they should be asked how did they happen to be in this predicament?
Why blame the government when everyone had an opportunity to attend school and to secure a future for themselves?
In addition, those people are baptized Christians and no doubt were practicing ones. As they grew older, due to their lifestyle, they took an opposite path. Today, they are blaming everyone but themselves.
They are fortunate they are receiving some money from the government. It is time the government makes them perform some community work for the money they are receiving.
St. Paul said, “Everyone should work. If they do not work they should not eat.” It is in the Bible!
I have an idea, a suggestion to offer how this could be done and achieved that people work. They are happy getting the money. If they are abled people they should work. I will wait after election of 2015.
What foolishness T Forkit and the rest of all you those UWP ites talking about every body knows the shooter and his father are pillars of the UWP so what Prime Minister have to do with a UWP shooting these are the words of Thompson Fountain young men asking for guns to shoot Haitians and Chinese confirmed by Danny Lugay some people need to die and he would take out some if he was not a believer and the call by the leader for all boots on the ground here you see a UWP shot 3 labourites and UWPites blaming the Prime minister politic was safe with Freedom and Lobour but since that evil party came on the Sean the atmosphere became very tense those leaders of that party instigating violence in the country imagine a supporter came by me curse a man when i told him not here he responde you to the WUP waiting for you when you out on your loud speaker on your van and passing all around you will see how we will mash you up is that not a threat.
If you don’t know what is politic what are you talking about I think you should get your ass out of this comment what are you talking about uwp
what them fellars talking about nah, rememeber the guy from Warner who kill the guy from Mahaut for 5 cents.I cant really remember the story. If someone knows please clarify.
It I astonishing and amazing how you low minded people has turn a shooting incident into a political fiasco. Some of you are so full of hate for the PM you will use any opportunity to spew your hatred. To the uninformed the $2. shooting wasn’t over bus fare. Make it a political issue the BLUE FLAGS dominate back street. The old Paros are from UWP. Take and change DAT
so bus driver driving around with gun in their pocket?
Not long he got it and started boasting he has gun too, I guess he just HAD to prove he had gun for true! So long he preaching violence, I guess here it is now.
in the land of the destitute(st joe), two dollars is like two thousand to the to the poor and is maybe worth killing for. what a country
a man the have $10,000 thinks $2.00 is nothing but a man that has 25 cents to him $2.00 is a lot and would do any thing to have that if that’s all to it but to me I think its more to just that $2.00
Sounds like GTA3 in st joe
We have men in high repute instigating those violent behaviours I quote { IF I WASN’T A BELIEVER I WOULD TAKE OUT SOME PPL IN DONINICA YOU KNOW! , SOME PPL IN DOMINICA DESERVE TO DIE} end of quote, do we really blame the youths? we have a group of violent men who wants to form the next government in Da and guns seem to be an option, do we really want to change from progress to violence? HELL NO.
Thats what laws and policemen are for…. If some is getting paid and not doing there job, well something needs to be done!
Prior to that quoted statement, Dominica was just this very tranquil, peaceful, heavenly commonwealth with 0 violence and crime. Then this incident happens in St. Joe, everything went bell up from there.
@ listener Don’t forget our leader
” No Law Not Even the Constitution can stop Me”
“””” Man to man we Wlill Marsh Them Up””””” That’s why i call him a bed example, and needs to be kicked out next election.
we have government operative colling on their supporters to wipe out the oposition so i guess them man checking no law no constitution is real…
You just come to shoot for 2 dollars. Hunter sang anything for a dollar and things tight. Back in the days St Joe people were sleeping on dollar bills. How sad the people are ready to kill for $2.00. We can call this ignorance , stupidity, arrogance, outrageous but one factor that cannot be overlooked is abject poverty.
Very true
Not true in this case, when you get the whole story you will be singing another tune. Its $2 worth of what?!
Labour ka tavay !!!!!!! I like that no I really like it
when politician saying Dominicans deserve to die and wipe out people what you expect others to do. It is very very sad.
Government policies are directly responsible for the behavior of our people in Dominica. Government need to set the right policies to take care of these problems. All the government does is take monies from hard working people an give it to the lazy ones. I said my piece.
young man exhale… before u find your self in jail… big chief wont stand u bail
Some people can find themselves in trouble. Imagine shooting at people. His aim was to kill that person he directed his gun at. The reason for this is over $2.00. If I recall, this is not the first time, probably not in D/ca, that this occurred.
Hope the gun is licensed for additional charges will be slapped on him. The gun is now evidence. The police authorities should confiscate it for good since he carelessly used it. He does not deserve to have a gun.
For that minute amount, he almost killed a few people. It is bad enough that they were severely injured. I hope they will recover in time especially those who were admitted to the hospital. This means their injuries are serious. God be with you and heal you.
As it is said, “Temper is such a good thing, you should not lose it.” People will get angry but as St. Paul said, “Do not let the sun go down on your anger.” This also means, do not let your anger take hold of your entire being to the extent of taking a gun and shooting at people and some innocent ones who were not involved in your situation.
For $2.00 he will pay a dear price for what he has done. Add up the cost and all those $2.00, they will amount to some thousands of dollars.
I hope he regrets what he did and that the Court will deal with them as he deserves. Hope he does not plead not guilty and state the devil made him do it. It would be a flimsy excuse which no Court will accept. It may be somewhat true and what he did is a serious matter but this would be laughable..
See what Danny cause
this country is too free and the pm was very correct. rastas cry out to free zeye and see how the man is on the road now; where are they freedom; man i am volunteering to hang poeple for the goernment; i am dead serious. these criminals have too much freedom after they have spoilt the lives of so many;
reminds of the guy who was stabbed to death following an altercation over a $0.25c during Connie island in 96′. I’m sure there may have been another way to settle these disputes and seriously the law is too and I repeat much too easy on guys with firearms and far more to discharge in public .
lol labour power moving da to the next level of poverty boy
meanwhile Dominicans fighting among themselves.from politicians to the last man on the streets, forigners setting up themselves on the little our parents worked hard to leave us.Wake up my PEOPLE from north to south east to west,we are becomming a mess.while the SPIN DOCTOR and CREW outsoucing all jobs to non Dominicans.
I do not think Dominica is ready for decrimininalisation of marijuana. It will be abused 100% and the rest of hell will break loose.
Violence taking over the country!!!!
Born and bread there too, but you must be one of them who operates the drug store. I am not diaspora. The loud noise and drugs back street has a negative influence on people lives. There were three people who were shot isn’t that too many. Do we have to continue business as usual! Did I touch a nerve when I said clean up back street and will continue to advocate that sentiment. I will continue to advocate against the drug lords. Yes, by a certain time you guys take over. The innocent people who were shot in their yard were dogs. All the negativity you may think has nothing to do with the issues. People were shot! End of STORY.
thats part of development life go on stop puting politics in everything
everyman should pay for his doing dont blame the polititions
there is 2 bus drivers with the same name the light skin one or the black one?
Stop blaming the government for everything that happens. These young men can do farming and help themselves. The Haitian coming and help themselves. (farming) Why can they do the same. Get a grip on life and stop! stop! STOP! blaming the government. Enough is enough. I am not into politics but if you loose bowels you lay blame. When people cannot get their act together they blame others. It happens all over the world. ONE LOVE
day before that incident at st joseph the uwp rep miss William was on the big station q 95 telling the world how she was being troubled buy a man day and night in full public view and no one is stopping that oppress. that is the real problem we look and don’t take action we should be our brothers keeper. and don’t just look.
Young man exhale before you find yourself in jail; everybody getting more angry, don’t let tension cause you to derail”
One Love Dominicans!!!!
Ok. The burning question is. Where are they getting their hands on these guns and why are civilians allowed to carry guns?
mama things so tight in the country man shooting ppl for a misely $2…..didn’t realise things was so bad in dominica nah..
They should not only give you all these thumbs down, they should respond to our comments.
Cease making such foolish statements. It seems you were born yesterday and your brains is still in the infant stage and are not yet operating as they should. You need to grow up and mature.
Some people have bad blood, a bad and quick temper. They get angry for nothing. Imagine for $2.00. These days they will shoot, injure and kill for next to nothing. It has nothing to do with the economy.
Dominica is in a much better shape than it was years ago. Many will confirm this.
How often in the past have u heard of bus drivers shooting ppl for $2 in da? Guess the folks that use to work who now have to resort to stealing cheese, sardines and the likes is not a reflection of the economy, or the lines on a Thursday at the constituency branches for a lil handout is not a reflection of the economy? Are u aware that per capita dominica has a higher crime rate than the United States? Guess ur brains haven’t develop pas the fetal stages so don’t know if u can comprehend . @ The Facts
Another ignorant comment. You know which country is the richest in the world as we speak. Do you know that that same country, with so much to throw away, has the most crime, indeed more than 2 million of its people in prison? You guess right; it’s the United States of America.
all this is happening because there is no law and no constitution.we need a strong leader to straighten this mess out.not a leader that tell us go to hell. and that our country is too free,at the end of the day, the people get the representation the tolerate.VERY SORRY FOR THE INNOCENT
PEOPLE.
Tell us, where are you going to get a new, strong leader?
You know very well Dominica has a Law and a Constitution. Some people are unruly. They lack respect for the Law, for others, their welfare and their lives. What happened in Joseph is a result of this.
so all the senseless violence in the world…including in the great US of A is because of the leadership?
you people need to stop making petty excuses for people who do not know how to resolve conflict peacefully…
you’re telling me all these wanna be gangsters are going to be instant choir boys once the Government changes…. dream on!!!!
Hello you should address the issue rather than casting unnecessary aspersions on irrelevant issues. Even in countries with so-called leaders we still have ridiculous activities going on crimes etc,…. Don’t bring in politics here it serves no purpose, your comment was an opportunistic view that is totally poor to this conversation
Wrong again. We need strong families committed to investing the time and energy it takes to raise their children, and to stop looking outside of their home for someone to properly guide their children.
Why is my comment waiting moderation? What is stated is truth. Its not going to get better. Thank U
I think that an example needs to be made in Dominica. Not just in the area of gun violence but drugs, murder etc.
Lord hath mercy!!
Young man exhale before you find yourself in jail.
Or inhale. It would be a form of exercise to release his tension. One breadth, in and out would have done it and avoided this dilemma. He should have said: “Lord, grant me patience.”
What is the name of the bus drive 2 COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED MUDER AND AM SURE HIS BAIL WILL BE SET AND OUT BY THE END OF DAY.
Over $2 and how much you are going to put out hundreds to get lawyer and more some people are so ignorant. Our politicians are talking about wiping out people who don’t accept their views so what do we expect from our young people. Stop the VIOLENCE
Stop the hypocrisy when it was said in Lagoon you never open your mouth and said nothing. Well again I sympathize with you because you dont know the English Language. Find them and all nooks and croonies and droone them check your English dictionary for the meaning of droone.
@SUPPORTER What we expect is people trying to emulate the unrepentant utterance of our leader that “No Law No constitution can stop him from doing anything that he wants” . Can you believe this is the grarbage coming from the mouth of a leader. THAT’S WHY the electorate are waiting to give him this hard KICK WHEN THE ELECTION IS CALLED
totally agree especially when our leader boldly states that no law or constitution can stop him dont expect the youts to have any respect for law either.smh
If only he thought twice before he acted recklessly.
Supporter what crap you saying there? I will blast you the same as I would do the other people that would add that to the PM, how does what Lugay said would make young people shoot people for two dollars? that a dumb statement you need to retract that please.
Supporter, And our Prime Minister told us NO LAW or NO constitution, Crazy Tee told us “Kamala you know since I was 19years I have been carrying a gun you know, if my mother was not a seven days Adventist hun”. Lets not forget some and remember others
wen justice are not served in the past these things will always happen. people shoting and getting away to ez next is the law people who will b getting shot
i see change cumin fr sure
so now we shooting people for $2 now
but im waiting for someone to comment and throw politics into this somewhere……in 5…4..3..2…1…..
Imagine, for $2.00. What a disgrace.
If someone does not have money and they only have two dollars take it and you will see what will happen. Gas is almost $16 dollars, so people think about it. People be on guard there is alot of bad spirits going around in Dominica.
This is an error right?
$2.00
has Dominica become that ignorant?
That’s a serious question man?
One would say this is a joke. For $2.00 you said? He is ignorant to get so hot-headed and shoot people over a $2.00. fare no doubt.
not surprised, $2, but listen to our politicians and understand the ignorance. everything is I go kill or hache you. sad
Stop beat women is their tears that cause you to do that.
Enough is enough. I am living away from St. Joe and DA and everyone knows who the drug dealers back street are. They are no strangers to the law. How can innocent people in their home and yard be shot by stray bullets. Are the police in St. Joe going to continue to let the drug stores, drug supermarket and 24 hours so call disco continue to operate without impunity. The back street in St. Joe has turned into a war zone. Where is the priority of the law enforcement agency. Iraq in the Middle East is good name for back street, Again clean up back street. Give our elderly the decency they work for and deserve. Give our children the right to quality of life.
The people who are responsible for this reckless endangerment should be given jail time not a fine. Please clean back street, close the 24 hour discos, the drug stores and supermarket. Give the people the peace and tranquility that was once enjoyed.
Iraq in the middle east? I too, am from St. Joseph and I believe your statement is a bit exaggerated. When was the last time there was a crime if this nature in our village? It took everyone off guard. You’re making it seem like the place I was raised is the epitome of all things negative. I do not want to deflect from the obvious fact that thous is an unfortunate situation especially when you look at the petty argument that led to the incident. This one man’s actions is not that of the entire village or the country.
Shut YOUR front door. A single mother is now hospitalized for her wounds while her children are alone! Do you call that petty! Are they animals? You got the audacity to say a petty argument!. Do you call that exaggerations. What if the people who got wounded were…… A person in front of their door seating on their steps deserve to be shot? Do you want to say the people were shot during church services! No, this is a drug haven and people like you will talk about one man’s action!. It is the NORM back street. Yes, I will use my pc to WRITE about it. CLEAN BACK STREET, let us reclaim our lives! People like you are the common criminals, justifying and minimizing the incident as petty while attacking the facts. Three precious lives could have been lost a deadly weapon was used! Where is the exaggeration! Innocent people were shot! 2 people are still hospitalized! You are the only tori there now! NATE TWIA LAWEE DEYIE
@ Enough:A tad bit emotional or heavily exaggerated wouldnt you say? what does all what you just say have to do with the incident? . This isn’t a reflection on St Joe, and leave Back Street out of your torry.
Why don’t you come back to help to fix it? If you were in Sen Joe, I’d tell you to look around. Our brightest and best and the next in line have all left. Who you expect to develop and clean up the place? Stupesss man! I’m not saying the man was right to shoot anyone but it really gets my goat when you people in the “disapora” stay behind your pc and act like de place going to hell. You want change? Then Be the change!!
Amen!
Well said. Thank you for being the voice of intelligent reasoning. Ouch! You stepped on my toes…but it was well-deserved. I am guilty for not doing my part as a Dominican. Thank you for the jump-start.
amen to that reader……
these guys have been the downfall of senjoe youth for over 30yrs and they are still ruining them,,,
I agree totally, this is very troubling ,, the young men in Senjo and their weed habit and all the old goats that encourage and run their weed drug store on the back road,,,, i call on all the old weed head that is 40 somthing and up leave thes young men alone.,, you have not taken 10 steps from since a teenager and your still around,,,, i call on the youths of Senjoe to eradicate all those all weed cats, !!! lets Do It
don’t bring weed into this…… weed and guns don’t kill people….. PEOPLE!!! kill people…. look inward for the answers u seek….
Well said, clean up back street with the drugs and the late nights noise, where are the police, its been going on for years and the police knows about it and nothing is being done
Well said, for years back street has been infected with drugs and loud noise and the police knows that and not doing nothing about it, I hope and pray that something will be done we have police in the station and you will never see them patrolling the streets, I know for sure that the tax payers are not paying them to sleep when they are on duty, and that’s what happens, you will call and they will say they don’t have transport, to come, what a joke, you are on duty you should not be in the station, you should be in the village not in the station, you are supposed to meat the people, know the people, and protect the people.
Is this not something? Right on their property, minding their business and they got shot. It is shocking. Those stray bullets are dangerous. Thank God they were not killed.
Understand the present situation and worst to come. Once they commence taking illegal drugs it is downhill for them. Then, as they grow older they will blame the government and say there are no jobs. We want jobs when they had a golden opportunity to study and gave it up for ingesting those drugs. Some people really do not know and want what is good for them.
I would wish for once both Labour and Workers would have the belly, stop fighting party politics and put country 1st… address the youth and the drug problems thats about to be the end of our lost young men . the name calling the personal attack games that these polittions are playing is sad, cold disgracful , tasteless and damn right disgusting…. it is all personally for themsee which pockets will get fatter and deeper,,,,, in my sci fi head, my ultimate prediction would be,,, when the ballots are counted, a totally new party with strictly foreign people with money of their own would surface as the winner!!!…
@senjoe WORKERS have been addressing the plight of the youth AND IS THEIR SOURCE OF HOPE in whatever way possible in the future. You must be man enough to say that this CORRUPT CABAL, which goes by the name of Dominica Labour Party is the one that has failed the young people of this country BIG TIME.
Can you remember ??????
“”violence on the streets
anything for a dollars
prince own me
beggar
who guard the guards
Calypso calypso music
words have power
Some people will kill for a few dollars.
To the individualon the run, practice what you preach, violence and your performing the violence, what are you going to say to the family of the victims give your self up.

my fans advice
violence
i wonder who sang those songs in 2013 and 2014
Thanks for the hint. Lol
so sad
We must urgently seek ways to resolve conflicts on this island, too many guns are out there and we are hearing of shooting too often. In the past three weeks there have been three incidents, Mahaut, Pottersville and now St Joseph, this must come to a halt. All I am saying is “GIVE PEACE A CHANCE”
How will this be achieved? It appears that some people are far gone and there is no turning back for them.
If only D/ca had a rehabilitation center to assist them and to become useful nationals also for their benefit.
Sorry about what happen, I hope and pray that people should realize that guns don’t protect guns kill as soon as you buy a gun you buy it to kill where is fist fight are we such a world of cowards that we cant fight with out fist that we need guns, will you all stop the wild, wild ,west.
Well when you have lazy men INA village and government paying them to harass individual what you expect palrep give them job not flour to cook dumpling on the side of the road.and alcohol now they suffering gunshot wounds where are the health equipment to nurse them lol see my village going down
I llook at my comment. I could not help but notice that I spell feeling wrong, Its feeling not filling. I know u guys would hurt me.
Any little altercation nowadays is a “Gunshot”. What happen to walking away or ignoring? No, they own a gun n they wanna utilize it. Jah, please guide n protection!
Making good use of it, eh? Hope they pay the price for that.
OMG can’t we have an argument without blood for crying out loud, we can agree to disagree and get on our way , do we have to hurt each other every time we disagree?
stop the bleeding brothers and ket start the healing
These incidend are becoming just a normal occururence in DA every day, or weeks
Sad, isn’t it? Dominica was not like this some years ago. I lived in D/ca in that era. Those were good old, happy, safe and relatively peaceful days. This is not to say there were no criminals. We called them petty criminals.
A murder occurred once in approximately 10 years and it had nothing to do with theft and illegal drugs but domestic problems. Actually they were about personal matters.
Once when I was a student, a man’s girlfriend was migrating to England. He found out and he killed her in Roseau; not with a gun. Some years later, another nice lady whom I knew was also migrating to England. She met the same fate from her boyfriend.; not with a gun Nationals of Roseau, Dominica for that matter were in shock and mourning. Some years later another occurred out of town. After that none occurred that I can recall.
As people become godless and inconsiderate of others, this will occur. The authorities must put their heads together and develop a strategy on how to help people from getting themselves involved in an argument and using their guns. This also includes those who who steal. They need to change; to take an anger management course. Otherwise the situation in D/ca will become worse. It is already bad enough.
Wild west, what is Dominica coming to. Everyone make cover up for criminals, but sooner or later it is going to affect us all. Dominica has a handful of people and if this trend continues, the next ten years, tell me what population we are going to have, and we all will b living in fear. Dominica, call on the name of the Lord, before it is too late.
Prayers are needed; fervent, humble prayers. Genuine worship and love for one another with no exception that God will answer those prayers. People need the Lord.
It is not love to harm others in anyway, whether in words and physically. When everyone practices them, be it three quarter of the country or more, then there will be a change of hearts and crimes will decrease. There is no other way.
The Catholic Radio is on. Expect that. Many inspirations are received.
We need prayer and we need the Lord. Signs of the time are everywhere and there’s a brand new filling in the air, lift up your head redemption draws nigh. Don’t be frighten we hav’nt seen anything yet. Lets pray for the individuals that God will heal there wounds,
I hope next val the sing taxi man shooting people for bus fare .
That drug store on the backstreet there need to be shit down,,, and yes I said it ,,, the pharmacist selling all the illegal street drugs in his shop.. Shut it the hell down!!!!
Alas. Whatever the reason, may they pull through and survive.
Wild, Wild West! God put a hand.
boii wat wrong with dem boyz nah? i fine dey want to do jus like dem americans now a days .. to jus kill alone
