Bail for alleged Tarish Pit shooters

Eusebe (left), Peter

Bail has been granted in the sum of $90,000 each, to two men who had been remanded in connection to a Tarish Pit shooting in December.

Alton Eusebe of La Plaine and Jess Alexander of Gutter Village, appeared before a Roseau Magistrate’s court on Thursday.

Their bail came after previous unsuccessful attempts by their lawyers, which had received strong objections from the prosecution on the grounds that police needed time to complete investigations as a number of firearms were still being sought. However, no objection was put forth to the court on Thursday.

Eusebe and Alexander are to report to the Roseau Police Station three times a week.

Meanwhile, Shermanie Peter, who had been remanded on December 29 in connection to the matter, received bail in the sum of $90,000 on January 9.

Kessler Alcendor of Goodwill and Alexander were slapped with several joint and individual charges on December 29. Alcendor was not granted bail.

Eusebe, Peter, Marvin Roberts of Mahaut and Mandella Gordon of Goodwill faced a number of firearm and drug-related offenses when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste on December 23,2011.

There had been reports that men went on a shooting spree in that community on the December 16 and 17, 2011. Reports also stated that they were, “walking up and down, spotting firearms.”

Their charges included : possession of a 12-gauge shot gun without the appropriate license, possession of 11 live rounds of 12-guage shot gun ammunition, the possession of a prohibited sawed off 12-gauge shot gun, possession of cannabis, and possession of 11 rounds of live 12-gauge shot gun ammunition on the La Plaine Public Road without a license.

One individual, Troy Parker, was allegedly wounded by Alcendor during the incident, according to reports.

This is a sad situation for this community, where parents worked very hard to have a decent lifestyle, then suddently,it vanishes away caused by your own child be cause of greed, just to get involved into a life of crime.May God bless and protect our village, (Please offer a prayer)because although they are a threat to society, they are entitled to bail. Therefore, they should be dealt with quickly, and their sentence imposed.

Man! You guys are really entertaining. There is never a dull moment with a Dominica online blog. I usually just visit the blog to see what’s going, but from what I can tell the majority of Dominicans today are really hostile and the government corrupt. I’m I reading into your statements too much? A group of friends and I would love to visit “The Nature Island”. My parents were born there and when I was younger it was my favorite place to visit. The people were polite and inviting. The culture was rich as milk and honey. The women…WOF…you already know. However, your comments are making wonder if the whole place has changed. The last time we went on a vacation to St. Thomas, but the locals were really rude. Needless to say I was really embarrassed, since I was born there. I don’t want to go through that again, so I’m looking for some advice. Please let me know if vacationing in Dominica is a good idea.

Its time we set up a Bail’s Bond commiitee in DA, like the States, where one has to pay cash 10 percent of the bail to the Govt’s Treasury which is non refundable. I think that would help to deter crimes.
An other thing these lawyers are harassing prosecuters to bail their clients, what would happen when one of these days a lawyer becomes a victim, then that lawyer/victim would be saying to another lawyer give the police chance to complete their investigations

the only time things would change is when somebody rackets one of the houses of somebody in high office- parliarmentarian, magistrate, police officers even those very same lawyers who plead fro their guilty clients, but who ca blame the lawyer when they’re doing their jobs?

For now, it isnt happening to them so they turn a deaf ear to our plea, but wait until one of their children is on the wrong side of the table, for example, one of their children get caught in a gang fight and he was just an innocent by stander, then they too (those in high office) shall have the same cry as other citizens of Dominica…… Then we shall see change

LA city, reading your comments, I am very disappointed. I have been a strong supporter of the labour party and Mr. St.Jean. I spent most of my free time campaigning for the party. It’s time we put politics aside and come together to develop our community and the nation on a whole. Since the last election, Laplaine has been too divided and comments like that won’t help. Apart from comments we all made in an attempt to get our party in power, has this lady or her family done anything bad or deserving of your comments in the village? As a matter of fact, she has serve us well ate the CCF office and the Credit union. Her brother, I can’t say enough as an owner driver of a motor vehicle. Lets come together to build our community. If you are not prepared to do so, I think you need to examine yourself.
    Thanks

. Very rude of you to personalize the issue. Slesser is not a PUBLIC FIGURE like PEPPER and does not hold herself up to the same scrutiny and accountability standards that a politician has to.
