Clintson Joseph of Bioche has learnt that walking around with a barbecue fork under his shirt and not being able to give a reasonable and satisfactory explanation for doing so is an offence under the laws of the country.
Joseph was arrested on November 5, 2012 in Roseau at about 9.35 pm during a street jump up when the police responded to a fight on Great George Street.
He was searched by the police and the barbecue fork was found hidden under his shirt.
Asked for an explanation he told the police that he had found the fork at a bar and had held it to “hunt cray fish.”. However, when he appeared in court on Tuesday the magistrate would not buy his story.
“You are going to enjoy yourself and you taking a weapon with you … you could have hurt someone with that, it is time they stop this street jump up,” she said.
Joseph was fined EC$1,000.00 under the Carnival Order Act (the maximum penalty) and given until December 31, 2012 to pay or spend 3 months in jail if he defaults.
Meantime, Roger Francis of Valley Road and Jeffery Winston of River Street will need to get proper surety to secure their release from the lock up.
Francis is charged with malicious damage, arson and causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) while Winston is charged with arson and malicious damage.
Winston pleaded guilty to the malicious damage charge and told the court that Francis burnt his house “flat” so he returned the favour and did the same to Francis’ house.
“Just send me to jail …. he burn my house flat, flat, flat so I burn his own also … I want to go jail,” he said in dismay.
Both matters are down for hearing in March 2013.

da, we really do need to stop this street jump up. Culturally, it makes no sense in comparison to Carnival. People have just worked on their communities what is the point of a night time fet? It is obvious that if crime is high during this period then this unnecessary event should be stopped. DOminincans tooooo like sewo!
